I was a bit on the fence about renting a full-size to tow my SxS 165 miles of twisties and highway, but I just let the XLT eat. I was averaging 19 mpg on the highway, but it dropped to about 16 on the back roads. Overall, I'm extremely happy doing truck stuff and still being able to modify it like I want. It impresses me every time.

I did have to add about an inch to the back springs adjustment to compensate, but I'm not towing every weekend, it was a 1 shot delivery, so it wasn't too annoying to add and remove height. Airbags might be an addition in the future. Zero sway, 1/2" squat, no trailer brakes. It just did everything I asked it to, even through a blinding rain storm.

Trailer weight about 680#, 13ft long
RMAX is ~1900 wet, probably have 200# of gear and 50# of mud haha

I'm running the Silvers Coilovers with the Swift Spring upgrade. I do have the 4k tow package, so the trans temp never went over 200° at any point, the hottest the coolant got was 215°.

what size tires are you running, and how low are you from stock? I've seen folks tow and haul with eibach or h&r springs and no real issues, but helper airbag springs are a really good idea.

255/45/R20s, so they are a few mm larger than the stock wheels and tires.
I'm about 2 inches in the back and 3 in the front lower.

that's the height I run, 29.0". I use a 255/55-18.

the reason I was curious is because there are some folks on coilovers, and many on airbags, running much shorter tires slammed way low. but you're not that low.

people have used the helper rear springs towing at normal ride height, so I definitely think there's some value towing lowered.

Sorry, there are threaded collars with the springs that allow for about 2 inches of adjustment. I was down in the back to almost 1/2 inch of space in the wheelwell prior to adding a few threads of height with the jitney loaded in the trailer

Did not know this.so factory springs can be raised a cpl inches? Is this something I can do myself? Or dealer has to do?

No, the factory are fixed, the Swift springs I got with my coilovers are adjustable.
it's pretty normal for coilovers to have an adjustable spring perch. the fun is a couple years down the road if you need/want to adjust ride height.

since the awd rear doesn't have a coilover, it's adjusting the free length of the shock itself. I've never really dug into the implications of that, because I'm not interested in putting coilovers on my Maverick, even though (and actually because) I've had them on other vehicles.

I hunt elk and coyotes out of my Maverick on Silvers coilovers. Had three coyotes in the bed this morning.

I drive dirt roads (carefully, of course) and use it like the truck that it is.

Is your trailer only rated for 2k? If it is over 2k, it should have trailer brakes on it? I would not be comfortable towing 3k without trailer brakes. I had to do an emergency stop from 65 in my maverick, towing 1,900 lbs (without trailer brakes) and it was right on the border of “wow that turned out better than I expected” and “that was kind of sketchy”. Emergency stop with 3k and no trailer brakes would be downright scary.
