A couple questions about the Maverick and extra cost colors. For 2025 (and previous years), a couple of the exterior colors are extra cost. Azure Grey is an extra $495 and the Ruby Red is $390 more, at least for 2025. Do they really cost that much more than standard paint colors to apply, or are they typically the most sought-after, so they charge more because Ford can? Then, when you place an order, did the additional cost of these specific colors impact your color decision?

It's likely the opposite. Lower demand means Ford can't take advantage of scale to get a better price. So, they pass that on.

There could be a cost factor in the mixing of the paint color so it is consistent that is factored into the price but I work with computers for a living.

Just a way to boost margins. Same reason they're removing features from packages and adding them as standalone options. The door keypad for the 2025 F-150 is $455 for a few bucks in parts and labor.

They are tri-coat paints. So there is more paint going on the truck. Highly doubtful if it costs anywhere close to what they charge for the "special" colors though.
I have Azure Grey Metallic Tri Coat. Metallics take extra work/time/cost.

There are non-Tri Coat metallics available that are standard price.

They’re priced to create the illusion of exclusivity.

Sometimes the pricing of colors is ridiculous.

  • The Azure Gray Metallic Tri-Coat is $495 for Maverick and $995 for the Ranger.
  • It is beyond stupid that adding the black painted roof option to the Explorer will set you back an extra $4,895. Ouch!

  • On some GM models paint color is no extra charge as long as it is black!

Want extra charge for paint?
Ask for military non radar detectable paint. My nephew paints military aircraft 8-10 years ago the paint was around $2k/gallon and took varying number of coats (as many as 20-24) in areas.

Reds have been extra cost for a while now. My friend bought a new 2006 dodge caravan in ruby red and it was $400 more back then.

We had titanium pearl metallic but no extra charge. Both were ad cars, $1,000’s below msrp.

RE: Red - We had a new 2005 Chrysler Town/Country van. I think the color to which you refer is called "Inferno Red" and when clean it really popped. It was extra cost.

My 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser is Inferno Red. Just more metallic, otherwise seems to be the same thickness [or thinness] as normal paint.

$5000 for a painted black rook. That is ridiculous.

Years ago I was painting a car and checked prices. In solid colors red was the most cost and white the cheapest. Candy colors were crazy.

Don't forget to get some of the extra cost paint colors that you also have to upgrade to the XLT model. To get Ruby Red it will cost about 3K more than an XL Eruption Green.
