17mpg might be the worst Mav MPG ever.
Admittedly, when I test drove and left the dealer lot, mine said 5 or 8 MPG on the dash. I can only imagine how the previous test-drivers were treating it to get that number.. It did only have 55 miles on it.
After a ~200 mile drive on highways, speeds from 30-60 mph, it came up to 27.5 MPG, and I was very happy with that.
I'm still waiting for my 2nd tank of fuel..and will see what it looks like. Dash says ~26 something, which includes more city driving and stop-go stuff.
I'll be around 800 miles soon.

Yeah, I'm in a similar situation, desert. Really did not want a sunroof, didn't need heated stuff, but would have liked everything else included in the Hi model.
I do wish it had ventilated seats however, i think thats more important than heated. Even with tint and a sunscreen in the windshield, the leather gets warm.. (first car i've owned with Leather seats, and I admittedly miss cloth when it comes to the heat).

Sport Mode in the Lobo transports you back to the late 60’s early 70’s - when CARB was just governor Reagan’s newborn baby and CAFE standards were about demand 18mpg gasp.

Back then there was no Stop/Start or technology that shifted the transmission like a grandma etc.

Lobo Sport Mode turns off Start/Stop and has paddles to let you actually shift your own 7 speed! Screw you CAFE! Screw you CARB! I’m going to make some old fashioned LA Smog!

Just wait until I’m out of break in period and start using LOBO MODE. My neighbor who gets 12mpg in his trailer hauling work truck will have some competition!

Loading and unloading during delivery. Lots of idling. Idle = 0 mpg

Makes sense. And for a new vehicle with no 'average' to work from.

Well, I figured it could only improve from there. :)

No....no it does not BUT you know what - if it makes you happy to wax nostalgic about times in the past that were pathetically worse than today...have at it Chops!!!

The big block muscle car oooouuuuggghhh that you pine for so much ran 8.5 second 0-60 and 16 second quarters below 80 miles an hour.

Easily bested by not even a Civic, but a freakin Hyundai Elantra.

Nostalgia is a very very intoxicating drug.

Not sure what your point is? If I wanted a 70’s muscle car I would have bought one. There are plenty for sale for a lot less than my Maverick. I owned a 1970 V8 Chevy Nova once. Fun car, but my 2025 Lobo is so much nicer:)

Or are you saying I should not be driving my Lobo in Sport Mode?? Ford Engineering put a lot of effort into the Sport Mode. I’m sure they would approve?

Or are you upset at my tongue in cheek criticism of CARB & CAFE cough? Don’t worry, I think they are very fine organizations wink.

My two cents, I still love driving my 2.0t EB after 2 1/2 years, average mpg 25.8 is not the best but I drive my maverick hard and not light on the gas. The Maverick 2.0 EB is quick and fun to drive. I don't worry about a couple dollars in gas saving.

One thing I noticed on the LOBO 7-speed trans is that it won't go into 7 th gear until I'm going 59 - 60 MPH.
I would think that a bit low. I would think that an ideal top gear would lug below 75!

I can only imagine how the previous test-drivers were treating it to get that number..
when I test drove one, the only reason was to see if the turbo lag was noticeable (it was).

I’m anal about proper engine break-in and prefer to buy a new vehicle “off the truck”. I’m 300 miles into break-in and have not induced the turbo lag.

Although I think turbo lag is in the foot of the beholder & hope I’ll learn to accelerate in a way that will minimize it:)

This Lobo is my first turbo and already a “race car” compared to the 2.0 liter normally aspirated Corolla Hatchback I traded in for it!

Is yours a Hi-bo spec? (wondering how much the weight difference makes)
Heavy foot? :D (no problem with that either.)
How many miles you at?
I'm not going too hard until I finish the 1k break in and get the break-in oil replaced.

Then I'll drive it for real. But, I have an initial feeling the tires are a limiting factor.
The brakes are actually great.

I didn't know that about the Start/Stop disabled in Sport. I've also disabled mine via Forscan, so it doesn't distract/bother me anymore in any mode.

Lobo does have Tow mode.

But your right, it better be a very light and small alum. trailer if your towing anything (with a 2k limit). Maybe a couple motorcycles. A snowmobile. Small quad/4 wheeler. Or one of those mini tear-drop campers.
I once heard that 100 extra pounds will cost you one tenth of a second in the 1/4 mile

My '22 GTI would go into 7 th gear at 47 mph and still had a top speed of 140.

It can be noticeable, especially if you don't drive around it. This auto trans tends to keep Rs way too low (for fuel efficiency reasons, i get it), but doesn't keep the engine 'ready for boost' in this low RPM state.

From owning a 2.0L EB 6MT FoST, I know these small turbos like to spool around 2700 RPM before you Smash on the pedal. If you learn to apply throttle, or get it shifted into the right gear / RPM range, it works so much better. Slowly roll into it up to ~2700 RPM, then plant it. Just a bit of a trick to working around the turbo-lag of a turbo'd engine.

Sport mode helps keep the Rs up better, and 'hold a gear' longer before it tries to upshift.

Normal and especially Eco modes will try to keep Rs as low as possible, and upshift early.

Using the paddle shifters along with the Sport Mode should help to manage the turbo lag. Going to be a learning experience.

Having paddle shifters and a “sport” mode was a prerequisite for my new car btw. Used them both often on my previous Corolla Hatch - mainly to make the CVT drivable:)
