I'm generally, but I think the maverick appeals to anyone looking for a small truck that can get some home depot runs done, someone needing light towing, an affordable new car, or looking for some good gas mileage w the hybrid. So it really has a huge pool of potential buyers I think, regardless of age
The infrequent gas fill up trips have been excellent!

They were looking at the the demand for a smaller size pickup like the original Ford Range. There are still a very a large of the original Rangers on the road because there weren't any new trucks that size available in north America.

I don't think its generational at all.
Owners for the Maverick are all over the board judging from this fourm IMO but have several things in common...
They are conscious of value and versatility. Hybird owners like the economy and were impressed with the longevity other hybird Fords.
Ecoboost owners like the option of towing and AWD. All this with four doors, a box and is at a price point that is a few thousand dollars more than some of the least expensive cars out there.
That sums it up. Maverick owners are practical and the Maverick gives you more for your dollar. I hope it stays that way as that is what sold it for me.

The Maverick sells well to all regardless of age or location.

Not certain who Ford's original target was for the Mav, but it's a clear hit with people who recognize the value and practicality of the design. But it we stopped there, it would basically be the Pontiac Aztek. It also happens to be good looking (not talking about the Aztek), capable, and modifiable; especially with ecoboost models.

(also - Millennial here)

This truck is just like when the Honda Element came out. Honda's target audience was young adventurous people. The people buying them ended up being40+ that saw the value and utility of the Element.

Funny, I bought an Element and now replaced an Element with a Maverick.

P.S. I am a BOOMER.
You're right on point ... also the Element was cannibalizing the CRV and Patriot models ... I still own my 2006 Element.

I tried so hard to like the Element! I test-drove it twice, loved all the neat features, and even liked the styling, but I just didn't kike driving the car.

I think they wanted youngish in-town hipsters, but got a lot of Gen X and Boomers instead.

Fooled those marketing geniuses.
Also, fooled them on the hybrid selling more than they thought.

It's almost like they didn't do any market research and just winged it on assumptions and/or their focus group(s) didn't include many boomers and just thought they would definitely not be candidates, in some other Ford articles it references how boomers buying was highly surprising and they for sure thought if boomers bought them they'd go for the Eco Boost and wouldn't be open to a hybrid. Hopefully Ford has re-stocked it's marketing research group with people who know what they are doing....
