In my experience smarter people tend to admit more readily that they don't know stuff. People who are less intelligent do the opposite
I agree! Better to be humble and pay $495 to be properly instructed, then to let your macho ego get in the way and go all-in on towing, lacking understanding of the tasks at hand, and potentially suffering some serious consequences.

Some of us had the benefit of learning on our own when we were young... however, admittedly the damage I could do with the grain trailers as I towed them around a field while combines filled them was rather minimal... a controlled environment... Not so with a dentist towing his new boat with his new F150 for the first time, in traffic... Go get the instruction!

This guy waved his hand back at me and said, 'All fine' and off he went like he's been doing it for years.

I don't think the ability to tow is based necessarily on high intelligence. I know some people who are very good at it who I would be shocked if they approach triple digits in the old IQ class. It's more about experience. Like if somebody is 60 years old and never really towed an rv, just retired and are starting to do so I could see it. Maybe that guy was a neurosurgeon..... In my experience smarter people tend to admit more readily that they don't know stuff. People who are less intelligent do the opposite
The ability to handle a trailer is more about common sense than IQ. I may not be the smartest, but at 134 I hold my own to most.

I can see some value for the average city boy, heck some of those wonder what that 3rd pedal is for. No shame in that what so ever.
As a country boy who got a CDL at eighteen and dragged 30ft trailers all over eastern Ohio and western Pa as a weekend side gig I can still admit that there is still something to learn.

I'll take your word on the last sentence but somebody can have common sense and it's still a good idea to get some instruction on something that is new to you. Especially if you're an old dog

Idea: Let's all chip in a little on a Gofundme and send @Snox801 with the Maverick and one of his 8,000lb trailers. :D

I like the concept. Knowing how to do this isn't a given anymore. Fried of mine owns a full-sized truck and I'm constantly having to instruct how to park it in an open field whereas I slipped the last trailer I towed between a pair of trees barely wider than the trailer itself with little to no assistance.

Nope.
Heading for Southern California with one car and six motorcycles inside.
I was actually leaving when I saw them closing it up .
I made a u-turn and went back into the lot. I asked him where he was going and he said LA. I said, are you sure? He waved his hand and said, 'It's Good.'
I'll bet he's been Towing like this for years and thinks he's been doing it right.
Sorry about the bad quality of the picture it was done on a Nokia flip phone.

Has to be pretty steep if they are offering a $250 discount.

For anyone in Ohio, I’ll teach you towing basics while we split a case of beer.
Final test involves holding my beer and watching this - no doubt.

Actually, this might not be a terrible thing. I owned a boat with 2 partners several years ago. I was the only one that could back the boat up at the ramp. Not saying that my friends were big dummies - they just couldn't back up a trailer.

It takes a little practice. The more you do it, the better you get at it in general.

Now, all the other lessons - trailer weight, tongue weight, GVWR, GCWR, payload, all that stuff should be dealt with as well if you're planning to go down the road.

I have plenty of experience backing up trailers and vehicles . What about the many people that can't even backup a car safely or parallel park . A lot of people can't even park correctly in a parking lot . A lot of people park by touch .

Nah, we drink a few beers while we go over the basics. 2-3 cheap domestics will have a newb right in the slot for their first hook up.

Then we celebrate by drinking the rest and leaving the trucks alone.
