One has to wonder at what point do people stop getting insurance? Michigan has been in a death spiral for a few years. No fault and rising rates have caused it to climb fast and the faster it climbs the more people don’t have it. Last time I got in an accident the driver at fault had zero insurance.
Which then raises my insurance more.
Snox,
Another thing I seem to notice here in South Texas is the amount of fairly new vehicles with body damage driving down the road.
Either their afraid to contact their insurance agent or like you said don’t have insurance.
I have trouble with the later from the standpoint of financial institutions requiring you have full coverage as long as you owe them $$$$.

are you using their mobile spyware app to get a better rate? my allstate agent tried to get me signed up for theirs, but it's not remotely close to worth it.

forgot to mention, I have been tracking this a few years. sept 2023 I saw a 12% increase. then sept 2024 I'm staring at another 18%.
Every 6 months, I turn on Allstate drivewise for 50 trips then turn it off. That's maybe 2-3 weeks. I save about 2-$300 annually. Still a rip off but with 2 homes it's a huge multi-policy discount.

My insurance has actually gone down. Last one was $948 and the new one is $827. I'm from Louisiana so the rates are normally this high.

I thought all states are least require liability insurance or they should.any yers ago NJ had something where you would pay a fee to the state if you had no insurance. Now it's required.

Insurance is up across the board, it is a racket. I shop annually for the lowest rate and switch but even that is going to bite me soon on the home insurance because my roof (although completely fine) is near age of replacement.
my exact issue. it's 15 years old, but in good shape and I'm in "hail yeah" Kansas. 😐

well since MI is a no fault state it shouldn't make any difference that the at fault driver didn't have any insurance- that's on him - doesn't affect how your ins co had to pay for the damage that dude caused as your insurance was on the hook to fix your ride if the other guy had ins or not.

well just because they required it doesn't mean people actually buy it - here in MI there are plenty of drivers who don't have any ins in our no fault state - which means that if the i don't have ins guy is at fault he gets to eat the fix it plan for his ride.

Yep, I think ours was done in 2012 and we've had companies roll through after storms offering to do assessments to get it covered by insurance and each time while my neighbors are getting new roofs they always say insurance won't pay for it, it looks to be in good shape.

A friend does estimates for a local roofer for a side job and he came out and confirmed that insurance would fight tooth and nail if on the hook for anything on my roof.

Yet when it comes time to switch it always becomes a point of contention. I've started to answer, "i'm not sure I just bought the house 5 years ago, but it is a architectural shingle and looks to be in great shape".

I'm shocked it took this long for your insurance premium to increase.

You are like 6 months to a year late to the party here!

I should also say that if you are not plugging in your own numbers online for insurance now days there is a 100% chance you are overpaying... er... overpaying on an already overpriced policy.
Yeah I've been with the same insurance agent forever and supposedly I get a clean driver discount. I guess I'm just not really big on switching things as much as I should I always feel like I'm overpaying.

I am in Texas Hill country 40 miles from Austin. When I moved here in 2006 AWAY from crazy DFW drivers my auto insurance with multi policy discounts went UP about 20% due to wild hog and deer. State Farm 100k/500k plus $50 (no longer available but grandfathered in) deductable. Also rate is based on vin# MSRP less safety features (discount for safety will pay for the upcharge to buy it in about three years). As vehicle value drops the premium for replacement cost drops significantly. Also note that the 500k liability per incident limit may not be enough if any driver of your car including joy riding thief plows through an intersection and takes out several vehicles. (The auto policy insures the vehicle NOT THE DRIVER! It gets legally deep and insurance may get out of paying claims but their lawyers will be paid by ins co. Bottom line is the extra liability premium is well worth it!).

I came to the Maverick from a Chevrolet Spark (tiny econobox) and was expecting a noticeable increase in rates. But, I was pleasantly surprised that my rate only went up $2.00 per month. State Farm, so I’ll see what happens in a few months..
