well since MI is a no fault state it shouldn't make any difference that the at fault driver didn't have any insurance- that's on him - doesn't affect how your ins co had to pay for the damage that dude caused as your insurance was on the hook to fix your ride if the other guy had ins or not.
Yes, but it still goes on your record as a “not at fault accident “ I live in Florida and we have free windshield replacement if you have comprehensive coverage. They still count that against you as a claim when they figure your renewal rate. BTW I am paying almost $1,900 a year on my Maverick. We are also a no fault state.

I'm 61 and our State farm rates have gone up, so I spoke with our agent and she suggested we take an online course for "seniors" through the DMV and that would help lower our rates.
Now, I just need to remember what the course is called and where online to find it.

It does bother me that I have to ask my agent how to save money when it should be their job to educated us on discounts, etc in advance of use asking.

That’s because they are paid a commission by the insurance company. It’s not to their advantage to tell you how to save money.

Usually in those cases proof of insurance is required when you renew your registration annually to get a new license plate or plate sticker.

Guess what's flapping around on all kinds of tailgates around here since covid.

And even if someone wanted to get their renewal right - they buy a month at a time insurance (thanks General) which means you have what you need when you need it - and no longer than needed.
Despite being required.

Why so many hit and runs.
Yes my son's a cop in an urban area. He says many drive with no insurance. But nothing ever happens to them

I just received my updated Insurance quote for the next 6 months and found the premium was raised ~33%. My agent told me that the primary reason was that the Maverick's Comprehensive Rating Group Code went up 4 levels from 014 to 018. Has anyone else experienced a significant increase in insurance?
had a 06 van got rid of it got the maverick and insurance went up 200 per year. i do live in south Florida one of the highest insurance areas in country, broward county florida

Mine decreased slightly this period.

I don't know as I just got my Maverick July 27th and my insurance expires August 27th. I had already paid for my wife's car and the car I ended up traded in so in the end I only ended up owing $700 for the balance from July 27th thru August 27th of 2025. So I guess by my calculations the Maverick was about 1250 for a year for full coverage. Not sure how that compares to what you pay.
1250 is a steal. We pay exactly twice that in Los Angeles for our 23 Lariat with no accidents or tickets for full coverage.

The following are cars that I own that are cheaper to insure than my Ford Maverick:

2020 Subaru WRX STi
2017 Fiat Spider Abarth
2011 Porsche Cayman
2009 Lexus LX570
2008 Porsche 911 Carrera

All through USAA. I also have about 10 cars on a Hagerty collector policy, but that's a completely different animal.

Our local body shop says that the Maverick isn't highly repairable and thus more likely to be a total loss in a collision. Based on having the rear plastic bumper replaced (parking lot incident....elderly lady backed into it) for $4k and a $1500 windshield replacement I suspect this is true.

If you're thinking of buying a Maverick and are sensitive to your total monthly expense, I would recommend checking insurance costs before buying.

The insurance on my Maverick, Safeco Insurance, is more than my wife’s Lexus NX350h.

I'm 68 and have been taking this 6-8 hour class (now online class) for over 40 years every 3 years. How could you not have known about this for the last 4 decades?

You're paying more than my new 24 C8 that costs 2.5 times your Maverick and has full replacement costs included. Start shopping around for better rates like AARP Hartford if you are 65+....unless you have a record with tickets and accidents on it.

I think one of the issues for the insurance increases is due to the recent increase of motorists who no longer have insurance and still drive and get into accidents totalling multiple cars. It is on the rise and still increasing since they are not getting harsh penalties The insured are paying their bills in the end. The police need to start using their in car cameras to monitor license plates and pull over and arrest those driving with no insurance instead of them just getting warnings. Even when an uninsured motorist causes a major wreck and totals cars they are not arrested but simply given tickets...assuming they will show up in court which they never will.

The defensive driving classes only give you a discount if the state requires it. Even then the percentage can vary by provider. Bright side is a dmv approved one for my state is only 25$ and done online.

I have been with Erie Insurance for over 30 years. My policy renewed 4/1 and the rate for my 2024 mav is $468/yr for full coverage $250 deduct for comp and $500 deduct for collision. I have a 2017 Jeep Renegade and it is $370/yr, as well as a 2012 Scion IQ for $302/yr. After being a policyholder for 15 years, Erie will no longer surcharge me for an at fault claim. Thankfully i have not had one. I am not sure what states Erie is permitted to sell in, but in PA they are awesome. I have my homeowners with them also.

I traded in one Mav('23) for another('24) and my insurance went down $20.
