My Maverick will be at the dealership Mon. Should I buy an extended warranty?
I had never purchased an extended warranty on a car (of course, I drove old cars and trucks). However, with all of the electronics and associated cost, I bought an extended warranty on my 2024 Maverick. As others have said, check out Granger - I bought in March when they offered warranties at dealer cost. They have various plan levels and combinations of mileage and years. I did Premium care, 8 years, $100 deductible (same premium with $200 deductible, so) and included the lighting addition - $795. Purchased online and very easy.

I am another who had never purchased an extended warranty but I have never had vehicles with the amount of computer chips and electronic integration found in new vehicles.

There are so many more things that can go wrong, electronically and mechanically. Replacing a LED screen can pay for the warranty. Replacing a taillight or headlight assembly on the Mav can cost over $1,000 because of the electronic integration. I used to be able to do that myself for $100. Extended warranties now charge extra for interior and exterior LED coverage for that reason. I don’t trust any new vehicle at this point to last ten years without some type of costly repair so I purchased the extended warranty from Granger.

As another post mentioned, warranty prices increase the longer you own the vehicle and also increase around 10% a year in cost so a $1,000 policy today could cost as much as $1600 for the same coverage in three years. You can also cancel the policy early for a prorated refund based on the time and mileage you have driven since you purchased it, minus a cancellation fee, usually around $75. You can also transfer it to another buyer if you sell it, also with a transfer fee around $75, which makes the vehicle more attractive to buyers. The same applies if the vehicle is totaled in an accident. So you do have options if you change your mind. Be sure to verify these options with the issuer if you decide to purchase.

You can also wait and get an extended warranty after the original one has expired. This would now be considered a used vehicle warranty and they are more expensive and require you to get a vehicle inspection before they will issue a warranty. It may be more expensive than buying a new warranty now but it is a good option to hedge your bets if you are unsure about what to do. If you plan to keep the Mav 5 years or less then none of this might be necessary. But if you want to keep it for an extended time you might choose otherwise. And though I may never get the value of the warranty there is something to be said for peace of mind that my repairs are covered for the next ten years. Look at all the issues that have been documented on this site. Those aren’t going away in three years and owners will be paying for them out of pocket without an extended warranty. It doesn’t take much to run up a $1,000 repair bill these days. I think it’s a good choice if you can afford it. Good luck.

Bought extended warranty on new F350 work truck/farm, still waiting on my 2024 Maverick XL (lite duty and better gas mileage.)

Years ago would not touch an extended warranty … now I would. Looking 4 - 10 years out the labor and parts cost will surely almost double. So think of it as prepaying your future repair cost with discounted dollars. With all the recalls, wear and tear on lower quality parts now is the time to consider extended warranty … especially when you can buy at a discount from Grainger.

No one has mentioned one very important piece to this puzzle... extended warranties only apply AFTER your factory warranty is expired.

Get the Ford warranty
1) If you buy the ford warranty ESP and sell the car early you can get a prorated amount of that cost back it's very easy done it several times.
2)Aftermarket warranties have to be approved by somebody that can tie up your car for weeks If they decide to cover the problem. The ford ESP premium plan covers everything and there is no waiting on the approval as it is done by ford techs.
3) You can shop the ford dealers online to get the best price then either have your dealer match it or buy it through another Ford dealer online after the purchase. 3 things to ask 1 length of time 2 length mileage and 3 Deductible make sure you are comparing apples to apples.
4) * These new car are loaded with all sorts of fragile electronics that will break over time. If you plan to keep the car for a while it's good Ins.
5) I was a dealership technician for over 25 years and then went to teach automotive for another 15 years

Pretty sure we have issues too. A couple were mentioned right above this post too.
The exhaust heat exchanger that is hybrid only? The CV axles that seem to fail mostly on the hybrid? Personally I don't see how that justifies getting an extended warranty, but if people want to gamble on their truck needing thousands of dollars in repairs I'm not gonna stop them

It's all depends on each persons individual situation. I got one on mine, but only enough to keep it under warranty until I pay it off. If you plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off and don't work on your own vehicles then buying a longer one would probably be worth it. However if you are someone that trades their vehicle in every 4-6 years for a newer one, then an extended warranty is probably a waste of money.

Just use the address of a friend or family in another state, except CA. The warranty is accessed by VIN at the dealer, not address. You can verify this through Granger.

I bought a 7 yr/175k from Granger on my new 24. I've had it a week today and have 839 miles on it. You can do the math :)

Granger isn't available in California either. Anyone have. A solution for CA owners?

2.0's have issues with cat's. CV's are an issue across the board. That was only a couple issues we know about here on the forums.

We can get into more, but I'd rather you just paid attention to the forums...

If you are keeping the vehicle longer than the manufacturer's warranty, you are gambling without an extended one. It's that simple. 5 years ago I would have agreed with you wholeheartedly. It's not the case anymore for the cost of these warranties. $1k spread over 5 years is 100% cheap insurance. Anyone who spends more than $1500 isn't doing their research and I've already covered that in my previous post. Again, spread over the course of around the extra 5+ years it gets you makes that still a reasonable price. You already pay for insurance to cover accidents you know might never happen, same goes with your home, health, valuables etc etc... why is this any different especially what we know with the recalls and amounts of issues that plague newer vehicles across the board?

The gamble is needing it and not having it. Not the other way around. It's the same reason I've CCW'd for the past 15 years. I hope I never need it, but it's there if I do. I'll gladly pay that money to protect a vehicle I plan on keeping for 8 years minimum the same way I pay insurance for driving it, owning property, healthcare, and valuables. Insurance isn't a gamble, it's necessary in the modern world we live in to protect yourself from companies that can roll right over you and not even feel the bump. Which we already know FORD does very well.

I looked into an extended warranty, $5400, then they've hounded me for weeks because I didn't buy it, may only keep the Mav hybrid until Toyota comes out with something comparable. All of the recalls, service bulletins, truck dying in rush hour traffic on I-95 has me a bit gunshy, had it a 18 months but I've put almost 22,000 miles on it. It's like driving a "Wrench and Ride," like I did for 30 years, you know it's going to break down but you don't know where or when.
