Have no clue what PTU, ECVT, or RDU stands for. I know what AWD means. Not everyone is a mechanic.
I was thinking the exact same thing. These terms are newer and even older mechanics may not know meanings. Credit=Pic taken from MTC "fossil" member.
PTU= Power transfer unit
ECVT=Electro (electric) continuously variable transmission
RDU=Rear drive unit

Daniel Deliverz on youtube had a transmission failure at 80,000 miles, mostly highway miles from what I can figure but still a bit worrying.

I'm of the opinion that fluid changes are the cheapest maintenance you can do to a vehicle, and the most important, so I do em early and often.
What's $30 of oil compared to a $10,000 bill for a new motor?
Um no, it was not mostly highway. Watch his earlier videos. He drives a massive camper up through the mountains, I guarantee you he torched his ATF fluid in that one day alone. Once the ATF fluid hits a certain temperature, its been compromised essentially forever to perform like it should. He should have been following the 30k mile ATF fluid change like you are supposed to in severe driving conditions.

My understanding is The ECVT Is not slated for a recommended flush service until 150K miles. If anything needs to be done to it way earlier than that, there is a serious issue IMO
I am kind of with ya there, Trannies are not wearing themselves into place like piston rings and cylinder walls are doing. I do wonder about silicone balls floating around within the tranny though.

Wondering.....Does the fluid need to be checked hot like most automatic trannys?
Per Montana's post which includes the Ford maintenance process for it, yes it should be checked while at operating temps.

I can select that screen in all modes on my Lariat FX4. In normal mode the screen clearly shows power to the rear wheels during acceleration from a stop. All Fwd when cruising.
What screen is this? My '22 FX4 doesn't have a screen like this.

Well I haven't rode in a Fx4 in a while so I did not focus on this subject at the time How ever I am looking at it from a Tremor point of view and not thinking that a FX4 might be configured differently. With the locking RDU in my Tremor in normal mode does not show any axle activity. However in all other mode it does. As I said in my other posts The RDU could be activated under severe conditions and poor traction even in normal mode.

Tremor 100% sends power to the rear wheels in normal mode.

There is no scheduled maintenance for your PTU or RDU - you won't find that anywhere in the Maverick owners manual.

That being said - I am going to have mine done at the local dealership (PTU and RDU fluid swap) for $290.

Given what we have seen from those who have swapped out fluids - I don't mind spending the money preventively but also, to have it on record with Ford.

Transmission is 30k for severe, 100k otherwise.

100,000 miles!!! No freaking way!!! That's lunacy!!!
The point is having it serviced at or before 10k miles so that is done at the dealership.
I believe you can do it yourself and still maintain your warranty.

I am just quoting the owner's manual I did not make any claim that is what should or should not be done.

I am sure I can check and change the PTU and RDU but if they are as abused and under capacity as you've claimed I think it will be a worthy $290 to spend.

I plan to do my own trans swap at 10k.

I agree that "fluid changes are the cheapest maintenance you can do", but that statement doesn't give anyone a sense of how often those changes should occur. Why not change them all once a month?
The point is don’t change them per the vehicle manual intervals. Change the PTU oil as soon as you take delivery of your new vehicle or as soon as you read through this post. Change the trans fluid right after the vehicle break-in period (5000 miles?). And use your thoroughly educated judgement and/or Blackstone Labs test results to determine how often to test/replace the lubricating oils/fluids throughout your vehicle.

I measured 9 oz. drained from the PTU and 19 oz filling to make the oil seep from the fill plug.

I can’t recall the Daniel said the he or Ford discovered the defect that caused his particular transmission malfunction characteristics. I read also that some have an issues where they have to rev the engine up to get the vehicle to move. I could be wrong but that doesn’t feel like a wiring issue.

Personally not going to panic as I don't have AWD and checked the oil before I left the dealership.

As for the Transmission fluid, color doesn't mean anything as I'm sure they use some sort of Moly assembly lube that turns the fluid dark as soon as it's operated. Same with engines and differentials on most vehicles these days.

I'm not saying you're wrong for the changes, but almost everything on this site tells Maverick owners to stop and panic about something on their trucks. Almost wish mine was consumed in an engine fire to end the misery already.
The color does mean something. It’s an indicator albeit possibly a small indicator of the condition that the transmission fluid has experienced. Transmission fluid color is and indicator of the fluid’s age and use. I have a 2023 with less than 6000 miles. I managed to get some universal averages of all the Blackstone Labs tests results from all tests they have received from all the vehicles that use that transmission. I’ll let everyone chew on these results before chiming in on them. The proof is in the pudding.
