Hmmm, after doing more searching it appears you're right. I'm more familiar with the older Ford pinion torque coupling style. And now for the Maverick they're utilizing AAM's EcoTrac system which can disengage the driveshaft within the PTU. Although it should still be seeing utilization to the rear wheels even in normal mode.No there not turning. Only when the AWD module commands the front power take off to connect the dog clutch in the transmission only then the rear drive shaft will transmit power to the RDU. That will most likely be in all modes except Normal and Economy. That's why there is not a screen on your dash to show power distribution to each axle. It only appears when you're in sand ,slippery. You might mean that axles are spinning.
