Maverick shortage is over?

They can sit there with the ADM. The dealers are required to pay taxes on unsold inventory.

Inventory for sale is not subject to retail sales tax.

What is likely eating into any profit for the dealer is the fact they (likely) financed the purchase of the vehicle under a line of credit, and they have some level of insurance to cover the vehicle while in their possession. On top of the hard costs like taking up space on the lot.

But it isn't the tax that gets them. That isn't correct at all.

It might be market dependent - my dealership has maybe one available about half the time - most special orders waiting for pick up (that is how mine was shown in their inventory on-line for about five days).

The two largest Ford dealers in my metro area both have zero available for retail sale.

I figured the opposite is happening. I haven't seen a Maverick on the lot for over a month now. Not even customer orders. Instead, there's tons of Bronco Sports on our lot both new and used. Probably because it's not as sought after as the Maverick. Not that it matters since I have one already and have another one on order but it would be nice to see more Mavericks on the lot to reassure me that production is getting better. It's slightly improving but it's still just as bad as last year imo.

I don't think the shortage is over. Why are many orders over a year old still waiting if the shortage is over? I was not even able to test drive one before I ordered. I have heard all about allocations, and don't need to hear any more!

Aren't the order banks for MY24 still open? Really hoping the Maverick doesn't go the way of the Honda Element and Toyota FJ Cruiser where after everyone that wanted one got one, there was no one else to sell to.

Hopefully that means more variants are in the pipeline (such as hybrid AWD or PHEV).

Zer0, considering I got my XL Hybrid last month for $23,339 OTD. It was well under sticker and yes, I ordered it 15 Sept of '22.

I think I disagree, considering almost 80% of customer orders now are for the Hybrid.

More likely high interest rates are discouraging orders for new vehicles overall, for those who need to finance their purchase.

I posted this same message in another thread but it is relevant here so I will post it again. I was able to buy a 2024 Lariat Hybrid yesterday from my dealer I have one on order with. It was the 5th Maverick in a week’s time that other customers who ordered had walked away from. The others were not Lariat Hybrids which is why I didn’t jump on one earlier in the week. However 3 of the 5 were XLT hybrids. one was an EB Lariat. So if this is any indication of the rest of the country, there is about to be a lot of Mavericks available on lots. having said that, all 5 including the one I bought were sold within a week. So there is still demand. Just thinking that demand is coming from people who have an order they’re still waiting to get a build date on. So further out, the demand may lesson. I believe the days of people paying big markups are ending. The dealer sold me this one at MSRP plus gave me a lifetime powertrain warranty.

This is a dealer in Kent, Wa with almost 40 new and used Maverick in stock!! This is a reputable dealer and will not add markup on personal order. Dealer stock I’ve seen an ADM from them between 5k to 10k during the shortage.

What I've noticed is many that show up on dealers websites are customer orders or orders in transit. They are probably not in stock.

Dealers around me have them on the lots. now. No mark ups. Wasn't that way a couple months ago. I just shopped around until I found the color and options I wanted. Got mine two weeks ago. Had to wait a whole hour for it.

dealers pay whats called a holdback to Ford every month for inventory that hasn’t sold, at least that’s what I have been told..

The $1500 is only one of the $$$ factors discouraging buyers. The 6-7-8% interest on loan also matters to the few(?) which must buy with loan. The 30+% increase on groceries also affects some that still have a job!
As far as shortage goes while on thanksgiving trip I saw two empty max length auto car unit trains empty headed south and ond loaded headed east on track next to I-20 all in Texas within 100 miles of each other.

Shortage over, hardly, lessened yes. With more Sports in inventory Ford is likely shifting build balance more to Maverick easing backlog.
Mavericks on the lot will only increase demand once the GP can actually see one in person and actually be able to get one in a reasonable amount of time.

Dealers all always list online all the Mavericks they get in as customer orders as if they really have them for sale.
They park them up front for the day or two that it takes for the customer to pick them up.
They have always done this.
This may be that.

They do seem to be getting more truck in though - customer orders, many still from 14 months ago.

I was the first Maverick order at my dealer, maybe the first one in the state of Maryland. When my truck hit the dealership, before they got my Line-X installed, a guy offered them $5,000 more than I paid for it. They said "No." Even with my sales contract, they still could have sold it out from underneath me, and ordered another one for me. My hat's off to Century Ford.
