Hybrid Addressing Shudder/Touchy Brakes In One Software Update?

So, we've had our maverick hybrid for just over a year, and have loved it so far. But, we have occasionally been frustrated with the touching brakes, and concerned with the shudder. I've heard the shudder isn't damaging the components when it does that, but it's still something I'd like to address in the near future.

I haven't had any of the software updates installed on my truck this far, but an astute member of the community mentioned in the forums that the latest software update supposedly addresses the touchy brakes, and shuddering in one go. Can anyone confirm this?

If this update hasn't come out yet, do we have a timeline for when it's scheduled to release? Also, do I have to make an appointment at the dealership when having these software updates installed, or is it one of those quick things I could just ask them to do while getting an oil change or something?

The braking issue is apparent:

When you are using regen only to slow down.....

Then at 3mph regen shuts off, and friction pads clamp onto the rotors abruptly.

If, by way of your pedal press, you utilize hydraulic brakes sooner, at higher speeds, you likely won't notice anything.

A year into it now, I can eliminate the grabby brake effect, or make it appear on demand, via how strongly I am pressing the brake pedal.

Mine was good for 2500 miles and then it became very apparent. The weather was also cool and rainy which seemed to magnify the brake touchiness, no matter how I tried to mitigate it. Then the last week was cool but dry and they improved. Today was also cold with snowy conditions and the grabbiness is back. May of 23 build date. Mine is going to sleep for the winter but oil change and updates will be scheduled prior to sleep.

Have had no issues with my late build with new software. It's good, very similar to my wife's Prius. I have seen the videos on it, I'm 99% sure this was fixed with new software.

Last week the dealership came out to my house and did a mobile update. This is what they did:

I have gotten the "grabby" brakes only a couple of times. Usually on my first stop of the day if it's raining or damp out. The hybrid brakes are different but I find if you slightly let up on the brake pedal when stopping all is fine. I like how the brakes feel generally, normally feel smooth.

This is an excellent explanation and the same experience I have with my 23 XLT Hybrid I got in August.

It's worse when damp / wet.

Be careful leaving a car wash.

The friction abruptly changes too in the first 1 second when wet pads hit wet rotors. This could happen in any car. But I think the "drive by wire" makes it more apparent.

I had the 23E09 emissions recall done on the 16th on my 2022 Hybrid Lariat.

I have definitely noticed smoother braking since with no instances of the brakes grabbing.

Yeah sometimes I don't notice it at all- other times (mostly when it's wet and/or first stop of the morning) it does get a bit noticeable.

Just had the 23E09 programming yesterday now my trucks instrument panel is saying I’m get 40-45 mpg. No matter how hard or easy I drive and. It don’t show electric anymore. Will the pcm calibrate itself as I drive?

The dealer performed the update on my 2022 Hybrid and both problems largely went away. If you want to make them go away totally then drive in Sport mode. At that point, they will disappear. Talk to your dealer. You will need to make an appointment. It takes several hours for them to do the update. It is covered under warranty so don't let them charge you.
