What I really want to know is how much that electric motor costs. 98KW motors are rather pricey. I kinda want to tie one into a hydrodam in my backyard.

Your not wrong though, I doubt ford is paying $5k to make the battery.
Am trying to visualize the size of water wheel with a six foot hydrodam with a kevlar belt around rim needed to turn the armature at optimum speed.

come again? Last I checked the battery is a $5k part, almost 25% of the vehicles cost. The hybrid still has an engine and associated parts. it also eschews engine belt drive powered aux systems (AC, pumps etc) for systems that are powered on the HVB, those aux systems tend to be twice what the engine belt powered components are.

I doubt Ford is making much if any money from the sale of a XL or XLT hybrid. What a sale is doing is letting them reduce the carbon credits they need to buy while also stealing customers from other brands, in the hope that those customers move on to more expensive Ford products.
This is a situation where Ford is betting on themselves to be a hybrid/electric leader. The industry is moving towards electric. They are investing in electric production under the blue oval umbrella.

This is my opinion, but the industry is changing because the age of cheap oil is over, so Ford is in an adapt or die situation.

There so many good points being made that liking all of them looks over the top. The level of intelligence in these posts and other threads like them make for compelling reading. So glad I am around to be part of it.

One thing that hasn’t been addressed here is that Ford needs the Maverick hybrid mileage figures to help balance out all the F-150 sales when it comes to Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE). There are big fines for not achieving the CAFE benchmarks.

I have no doubt the hybrid system costs more to build than the EB. It has more moving parts, the battery, more tech controls, etc.

Or think of it this way - they both have 4 cylinder engines. That is the "base cost." In addition, the bybrid has all the equipment for the electric drive, regenerative braking, etc.

Why are they doing it.? I believe they want to get their fuel economy numbers up. I am happy to help with that 😊
I don't see the transmission in this equation. The EB 8-speed slushbox has far more parts than the eCVT in the Hybrid. And a fair amount of the control electronics involved in the eCVT can be said to offset the controls of the Auto Trans.

Easy answer, government regulations.

Ford has to pay companies like Tesla millions upon millions of dollars every year just for Tesla to exist. Why? Because the government makes them purchase regulatory credits. Last quarter alone Tesla apparently raked in nearly $500 million in regulatory credits that they sell just for existing with their electric oriented business model, and the only way for Ford to get around these losses is to sell their own EVs and hybrids to increase their fleet fuel efficiency and reduce their emissions.

I doubt the hybrid is actually $1000 cheaper to produce than the Ecoboost, but its likely simply more profitable for Ford to sell hybrid Mavericks at low margins or even a slight loss if it means reducing the bleeding from government regulatory fees that would just be lost money otherwise.

In a perfect laisse faire economy, its not likely the hybrid option would even exist, yet alone be so cheap. Its like asking why corn is seemingly omnipresent in pretty much any product you can find in a grocery store, not just the food but some of the bio based plastics and heck even the grocery store gas station via 10% ethanol. Government regulations that heavily subsidize corn, just like it subsidizes electrification.
Exactly. The only reason the Maverick even exists is to meet the upcoming increases in the CAFE fuel mileage standards. A 40mpg Maverick offsets a lot of 18mpg F150s.

The price of oil has always been an artificial construct. Its not like we are anywhere near limited on the supply yet, so the only thing driving prices are OPEC/gov regulations. Since those two things change rather frequently, I could see cheap oil being a thing in a few years or so.

I'm not here to opine about government regulations, oil dependence, pollution, or any of that.

The Maverick hybrid does illustrate that when people have the choice of a capable, fuel-efficient vehicle at a good price, they jump on it.

People can theorize about what it has taken to get us to a point where we have such choices -- market forces, government forces, technological advancements, whatever -- but I'm just glad to have the choice.

Scanning the market, talking to dealers around my local area and even a few at places across the country, no one is getting hybrids in right now. Has anyone here, even if you ordered long ago, secured a hybrid?
I can't see ordering one, the line ahead of me is -- way -- too long already. I think I'll just back away from the frenzy, check in occasionally to see about new developments, but otherwise wait until spring to get serious again. Maybe I can stash some cash in that time for a bigger down payment. 😄

Well, quite frankly, money is an artifical construct. So, it's pretty much bull$h!+ all the way down.

Those are definitely in the mix, but there are other factors.

Non-OPEC countries don't always act in concert with the cartel. Efforts at reducing consumption (technological or otherwise) have an impact. As does corporate decision-making targeting profits, share prices, and compensation (not necessarily in that order).

I'm sure there are more factors (shipping, whatever), but my point is just that it's a complicated mix.

Just curious... how long ago did you place your order? What are the basics of your configuration?

So do I understand you right... You ordered two Hybrids on 8/4...(and today is 10/12) so just over 2 months to build. But as of today while the info is the truck is built...they have not shipped it out? Any ETA on that?
