In a normal car, you start the motor and let it run to allow the oil and lubicants to flow around the engine before getting under way. At least I do, especially on cold mornings. The hybrid however doesn't start until it is needed. When I first take off it's on battery only and then the motor kicks in.

Is it a problem for the motor to start under load without first circulating the oil and such?

If this is an earlier thread I couldn't find it.

From my understanding, motor oil flows and circulates around an engine basically immediately these days. It's not like it used to be with thicker viscosity oils where it took a little bit to reach all the areas of an engine.

That's the "zero" in the 0w20 doing its job.

It behaves like a 0 when cold and a 20 weight when hot.

It's the opposite of mother nature. They add polymers that thicken when they get hot.

You will be fine.

I find it interesting that I can hear the ICE running in town (NOISY, actually), but never hear it on the hiway. 55 on electric only, according to the EV Coach, and 55 on hybrid sound the same. Must be the eCVT.

In a normal car you don't and It is not recommended to start the motor and let it run to allow the oil and lubicants to flow around the engine before getting under way.

From Consumer reports: "Modern cars have improved in technology to the point where your engine is fully lubricated within 20 to 30 seconds. By the time you get in, start the car, put on your seat belt, and get comfortable, the engine might not be fully warm. But it’s completely lubricated, and you’re okay to drive at this point."

If you want to be absolute sure, slightly hit the gas pedal when you start the car and the engine will kick on.

I do it most of the time as a habit (and also let the heater turn on faster to defrost the windshield during chilly days).

Since I pay attention to the weather. I use the app to start my Ferd. No 30s yet. But I'll do same. Drives daily.

Excellent reply from CR. Have always subscribed to the 20 second or so rule when the vehicle is cold.

Second winter in my hybrid coming up, already had a couple of frosty mornings. I have not had any issues with the car heating up. The higher the temp is set the more the ice runs to heat the water. The motor kicks on almost immediately when it cold and the heat is on.

I hate that. Really. What a dummy.

Unless it is a diesel and the thermometer is in negative territory.

Auto startup about 15 minutes before I leave every day when it's cold out. Best idea ever,
Worst idea ever.

Since you have hot air in these in 3 minutes. If not, have yours checked out.
