I used to have a late 80's Mercury Grand Marquis. You want to talk about a large hood 😬
You could have landed a plane on that hood!

My ‘62 Chevy Impala, my ‘68 Cougar, dads ‘70 Cadillac only one that wasn’t huge was my ‘72 VW van, that had NO HOOD, scary.

No, not too big and does not block vision in any way.

Is anyone else bothered by the size of the hood? To me, driving, it obstructs my view, and in my opinion is disproportionate to the size of the truck. Thoughts?
I had a 66 Plymouth v8 small block that you could almost stand with both feet on the ground between the engine and the fender well. In the hybrid maverick the only thing I have ever owned that had less room under the hood was a V6 PINTO!!. I did buy a 91 caprice once that a little lady had traded in with 240 miles on it and was told that she couldn't drive it because she had to look between the top of the steering wheel and hood and couldn't see any pavement. But in any case I have noticed in my hybrid maverick it is difficult to park in the garage with the passenger side closer than 8" from my work bench. I am thinking I need to hang a guide ball from the ceiling so I can touch the ball with my passenger door glass at 3" or so from my work bench.

Not large at all.. Go drive a mid or full size truck. Even the Bronco Sport has a larger hood than the Mav.

I don't think the hood is to large, but I have found that the rearview mirror is smack dab in the middle of my view when driving and can block my sightline.
I agree with this. I have my mirror as high as it goes but it blocks my sightline. Dumb design.

What do you suggest? Grafting on a C-Max or Focus hood? You’d end with a truck more homely than the Santa Cruz!
Were you expecting a Prius driving position?

Conversely, I love the subtle stamping detail of the hood, especially the two center indents that follow the F150'esk door indent detail.

The Mav has some really nice subtle lines when you look closely, despite the initial "plain" look vibe.

I think it's one of the more "cohesive" total styling packages from Ford, quite frankly.
And those creases help strengthen the flat panel.

I agree. It sounds like the OP is used to driving vans. My last daily was a 99 Ford E150 van, and you couldn't see the hood. My 2018 has a long nose. Any scoop on those hoods make it very difficult to see over. Especially since the windshield is short and it has a low seating position.

The seat is pretty low at the lowest height setting, but several people in this thread replied that the mirror is in their way, which might indicate they've got their seat too high. That height might be necessary to get the seat bottom at a comfortable angle, though, since the height adjustment is linked to the seat bottom angle...

Of course, but in the case of a hood, it's more of a styling exercise given the structural support panel bonded to the underside.
