I have received my 23 XL Hybrid. I was very interested to try out the sound of the stock system. I have been pleasantly surprised with it.

I had read all the posts about upgrades and was expecting to do the same. Partly because I like to do that kind of stuff but also because I do appreciate decent sound. I actually have a list with links to the components I was planning to use. Now I am not so sure I will do anything.

A lot of the OP's who had done upgrades seem like they have 22 MY trucks. Is it possible that the 23 I got has different stock speakers?

No, they're the same.

It is not the worst system I've ever heard, but it can be a whole lot better. It depends on what you listen to and how loud.

Talk radio probably would not make much difference, hip hop or electronic music, huge difference. Rock music is ok on the stock system at low volume, but once you get up into the 15ish range and louder, you really shouldn't have much trouble noticing how poorly the stock system reproduces music.

When ordering my 24 XL, I noticed the XL and XLT both have six speaker stereos so assumed they were the same. Depending on how it sounds, I'll probably upgrade some of the speakers at some point. I don't listen very loud, so doubt I'd need an amp.

No talk radio for me. Classic rock stations and Pandora Daddy Mack Blue Band (blues) station played wireless from my phone.

What struck me was how good the sound was when listening to Pandora. I also had it up to 15-20 on the volume.

I am going to give it some more time before making a decision.

Same part number for both, I think the base XL sound system is perfectly fine but I'm not an audiophile type and I mostly listen to podcasts and music that is not bass heavy.

I would love to revisit the stock system at a 15-20 level audio. I cannot imagine that actually sounds remotely "good" But that kind of thing is very user dependent.

I would call the sound in the front seat of a 23XL to be "surprisingly decent". It was actually better than I expected. As for the back seat, to quote my teenage son: "Wow. This sucks. The front seat is 100x better.".

The sound is fine for NPR, top-40, and oldies stations I typically listen to at medium to low volume when going to get groceries. If I want good sound, I just plug either my audiophile headphones or in-ear monitors into my cell phone. The sound of those are better than any car audio system (and I have heard car audio systems that cost more than a Maverick). The downside is that it is a little dangerous since you can't hear anything outside the vehicle (but that is likely the same situation for those cranking up the volume of their in-vehicle speakers). I typically only do that when doing 300 mile drives on the interstate at night when there is little traffic on the road.

yes, the rear speakers suck and they're firing right into a rear passenger's head. you should definitely set 'driver focus' and fade the rear to where you can tolerate it sitting in the back at volume 25.

if you set 'all speakers' and leave it at factory 50/50 fade it will be way too much output on such horrible 4" speakers.

The speakers in my 23 XLT sound great. I too have read and watched videos about the complaints of the MY 22 sound system. Like you I chalked it up to an upgrade for MY 23.
For me no complaints about the sound. The glitchy infotainment system is another story.

Is your truck a 22 or 23?

I am not experiencing this. I have it set to driver focus with the fade 2 clicks to the rear and like it there.

I except that the speaker part numbers are the same for the different model years. I am just wondering if the 23 speakers are upgraded but have the same part number?

I love the base sound system in my 2023 XL. Radio reception is poor but Spotify sounds great. Does everyone know that there are controls to adjust bass, treble, balance a d front to back balance (fade)? I adjusted mine to my preferences and it really made an improvement.

I have no complaints about how the speakers sound in my XLT. I have it set to driver and played with the eq settings to my liking! Though I wonder why they didn't put the rear speakers in the door. I usually have the volume set at 10-14.

common practice providing the newer part is a direct replacement for the original part. it would be a parts cluster $#^! if each minor engineering change resulted in a new number.

it would have cost the space that we have 2 bottle holders, and personally I'd make that trade.

check out the rear doors on a Bronco Sport sometime. they have 6'5" in the rear doors, and this would be a massive upgrade over the dumb 4" in the Maverick's rear pillar.

Yup. My wife has a 23 Bronco Sport and the speakers do sound better than the Maverick.
