I'm sure I'll draw fire for this, but I don't get what people on here and some of the auto journalists I've seen are talking about when they say the base stereo in the Maverick is really bad.

With the amount of negative talk about it that I heard I went in to pick up my Maverick 2 weeks ago expecting the stereo to be utterly useless, and if I turned the volume up from even a whisper it would be distorted ear rape coming out of the speakers.

Its not true at all, and I've been jamming to music just fine. I had a 2018 Premium GT mustang before this with the top sound system and I'm not finding myself noticing much difference...
Haha thats what i thought tooooo when i got my maverick! I was doing all this research thinking id have to swap in an aftermarket system… turns out these speakers are at worst equal to the 2018 rio i replaced lol i mean is it premium? No. But… i didn’t pay them to put a premium system in lol i paid them for an all wheel drive truck for the price of a honda civic 😂 all things can not be equal

I haven't yet heard the B&O as my Lariat is not delivered yet. But I did put 2,000 miles on an XL and I would say it sounded alright.

Our Integra has the 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D system. I'm not expecting the B&O to perform anywhere close to that, but I am expecting it to be a significant bump over the stock system.
Can i just ask as an aside why an integra would need 16 speakers? Lol

I am not even close to the first person to do this. But, I am a mild audiophile and will be upgrading mine even though I agree it isn't the worst system Ive ever heard. But, in the meantime I just did all 4 door interior skins and the door panels with Soundskins sound deadening and it makes it really nice difference in sound quality for the radio, but interior noise as well. Now when you close the doors they sound like a high end car. Very nice notable change.

Because it is a brand new car and some of the cars on the market today do offer a super nice audio system. I would definitely spring for that if it is me.

I find the stock radio isn't too bad. Happy with everything so far except for the....

As they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder (or ear in this case). I have watched the speaker replacement videos and the stock door speakers do look really cheap. But Since I have NO Mav, I will take your word. Many audiophiles have been known to spend more than $60K for their home stereo systems. So clearly they have more $$ than brains.

The stock stereo is fine for me. It has quality sound.
I'm in my truck paying attention to the squirrels and woodchucks flying down the highway playing car ping pong. My attention doesn't need to be on every nuanced note coming out of my stereo. I'll save that for when I flip the arm on my turntable and sit in my recliner with a glass of Knob Creek. Lol
But that's me what ever moves ya!

My point was that it doesn’t take 16 speakers to make a good audio system, or to fill the interior of a sedan with balanced sound lol

I also think the stereo that came with my XL sounds great for stock Audio. My last Ford had the upgraded 10 speaker Sony stereo and I think the base Maverick stereo sounds just as good. I will admit that I'm no audiophile but I have dealt with some pretty terrible OE stereos in my time (Looking at you Nissan and Subaru)

But, for people who have little knowledge of audio systems, a lot of speakers are a selling point and the more, the better (to them). Of course it would sound much better with the same amount of total system power, but just a quality component set upfront, maybe decent coaxial in back, and a (real) dedicated sub. I've actually heard some pretty decent upgraded factory systems in late-model cars, but you could build something much nicer for a fraction of the cost aftermarket.

All I can say is I replaced my front door speakers with decent panasonic 3 ways and it made a big difference. You can go much louder without distortion. Overall the bass is much more crisp and sharp.

Honestly I could have lived with the OEM speakers.

Maybe that's the difference; volume. I never listen to the stereo at louder volumes, I don't ever go over level 10 on the stereo so maybe like in your case the stock system loses any kind of quality at higher volume levels. At least it's nice to be able to get away with just upgrading the speakers and seeing a decent improvement.

A vehicle needs 16 speakers as much as my Escape needs a power liftgate.

Or a hybrid powertrain vs. the base 1.5L EB, or AWD.

Or the panoramic vista roof.

Or.... the list goes on.

It's not that it's needed. It's that some see the value in it.
No lol a vehicle needs a quality stereo like those things. You can accomplish this with 4-6 speakers and a sub lol ive done it many times in many vehicles. Value in 16 speakers is like the value of a pano roof inside another pano roof. Anyways. Youre not getting my point. I’m at peace with this lol

I can accept that some find it good enough, but it's a very long ways from good.

Volume is a huge factor. If you listen to it below 10 normally then almost anything will do. I saw someone post a pic of their treble and bass tone control at max. That might sound acceptable at 10, terrible at 15 and massive distortion and damaged speakers at max volume.

A lot of people either can't hear a difference or don't care. Thus the dramatic rise in popularity of sound bars and the falling presence of full range loudspeakers at home.

I'll only add that quality car audio doesn't require 16 speakers.

You can accomplish the desired results with 4-6 speakers + sub, properly amplified, tuned and time-aligned.
