Too many rock concerts? I find the volume over 10 to be painful and causes ringing in my ears after a short time. 🤷‍♂️
you might have Tinnitus, yes. my hearing is fine and I don't have ringing or headaches.

my system plays about 107db max, which is somewhat loud, but being anywhere near the front at a concert is more like 120db. I do like live music and I'll bring earplugs if I'm going up close.

85db is not even as loud as your average movie theatre.

I'm sure I have it to some degree, having used a lot of gas power tools for long periods of time over the years, even though I always used ear protection. I never get headaches from it though, just painful to my ears. Even as a child I was sensitive to loud noises.

ah. conversely, my second day owning my Maverick I discovered that the B&O will play to 30 without destroying anything provided that you have the bass level at neutral or 1-2 steps minus.

if I'm talking to a passenger in the car, I do set it as low as 6 or 8 which might as well be muted on the highway. but my normal listening level solo or with someone who enjoys music is more like 15-18.
Yup, Imma 15 - 20

Ford quality...🙄🤣🤣
Do you happen to have anything showing that it's engine vs trim that decides which builds get the sound absorption in front of the doors?

no I just remember a post about prior years that it was only on hybrids it was just a cheap piece of foam that was tucked in front of the doors between the fender. IIRC Ford sold them for like 80 per side. Some hybrids came with them some didn't I seem to remember it wasn't trim specific, more of an availability at the time or shortage thereof.

Correct. Research shows that movie theater previews are up to 100 db sustained and 110 db peak. Lawmakers have even suggested regulating SPL at theaters because they are loud enough to cause hearing loss.

Great post! Thanks for doing these measurements! The B&O graphs look pretty good honestly! Typical bass boost from 20hz-80hz, but that's exactly what most consumers are looking for.

It's really interesting to see the 150hz high pass on the rear speakers with the B&O.

The B&O system looks like it would be pretty flat with a mid boost.

?

Let's look just at the first graph he showed. B&O in green has a high pass crossover at 35hz to keep the 6x9 alive. This is very typical for Ford, the B&O 8" sub in the F150, Bronco and other vehicles does the same thing. the bump at 60hz is likely because the 6x9 and 6.5 are both playing it, but it's about 65db. at 20hz we're at 50dB.

what I was asking to be done was repeat this as a higher volume because I'm confident the B&O 6x9 will not perform down to the 35hz crossover. it doesn't have the power or excursion to get there. but... I removed mine so quickly that I'm not certain what it's real SPL potential is, so while I don't want anyone destroying their B&O playing a 20hz-20khz test sweep at volume 30, I am curious what the RTA looks like at ... say, volume 20 or 22.

then look at the blue trace for the base. it doesn't have the 6x9 sub so it falls off a cliff at the 6.5 door speaker high pass, somewhere around 55-60hz. it's at 20db at 20hz, you would not even hear that.

I'll do some measurements on my system this weekend. I'll do one at volume 12 to keep that one variable the same, but since I've replaced all but the rear speakers and I have a sub with amp, it's a very limited comparison. And then I'll show a sweep at high volume. I just have AudioTool on my phone and tablet, so the traces won't look quite like this.

I was really talking about the 5-10dB bump from 30-80hz. That B&O green curve actually looks quite nice for the listening taste of most people. Not really an "audiophile" low distortion curve, but it'll make most people happy!

I'm getting my 25 Lariat next week so I can run some additional measurements. I'd definitely imagine the lariat sub will fall off pretty quickly at higher volumes. There might be some DSP to boost it at higher volumes, but then you're going to run into some xmax issues.

I can even get some T/S measurements of the sub to see what it would realistically be capable of.
