Usually hovers around 15.5. It’s as if you can watch the gas gauge needle going down!
On my old cars I'd suspect engine/transmission but a modern vehicle would throw a Check Engine error code for misfires, wouldn't it?
I wonder if one or more brakes are dragging. You'd notice deceleration when you coast; brake discs too hot to touch.
Did you check the tire pressure? I expect a tire would have to be visibly low to give MPG that bad.

Are y'all verifying this against measuring the good 'ol fashioned way using your trip computer? My current 2012 Ford focus consistently says >32, but when measured Saturday the trip odo, it consistently measures between 26-31 (much closer to the EPA estimates).

Ah yes. The good ole way.

My dad used to have me write in the book each time he filled up. It was many years worth of tanks of gas.

I do mine manually every time too. 22-23. Computer says 24’s.

I'm just saying, my current Ford vehicle is NOT accurate according to the computer, but does match what the EPA estimates said.

my current Ford vehicle is NOT accurate according to the computer,
My Escape Hybrid reads 5% high on the dash, compared with pump mileage.

I do it the REALLY Old Fashion Way.

I am still using a DOS program called CARS that dates back to the late 80's that tracks Car Expenses. It is currently running in virtual "XP Mode" on Windows 7.

These are: Purchase cost, Accessories cost, Insurance cost, Fees cost, Gas cost, Maintenance cost, Repairs cost, Wash cost

I use it to track every cost of owning and driving vehicles.

Whenever I have an expense it gets entered.

For gas I enter:

Odometer reading
Total cost
Cost per gallon

The MPG is figured by:

Miles traveled: OD reading on current fill-up - OD reading from last fill-up
Gallons used: Total cost / Cost per gallon
MPG: Miles traveled / Gallons used

I created a separate program to extract information from the Cars database to give me yearly reports and over lifetime costs.

Pictures here are reports on my 2015 Honda Fit EX for the 2020 year (where it idled for long periods while eating in the car) and the "All years report" over the last 7 years.

I can't recommend fuelly enough for mpg tracking! Once you set it up you can also text in your fill ups. After 2 tanks it will text you back that trips details you can also include additional info if you want to track trip notes. They even make it easy to remember. All you do is text your M, P and G... Miles, price and gallons. So a basic text is just like this:

311.8 3.049 10.567

If you want to add a note it can be something like:

311.8 3.049 10.567 70% highway driving

The extra note gets stored separately.

You can even designate multiple vehicles by starting the text with a preset letter you choose, which would be:
F 311.8 3.049 10.567 91 octane 80% highway

I don’t want to know my insurance cost. It would make me irate. 21 years of driving not 1 claim.

Yes I know it’s peace of mind but that’s money down the drain in hindsight.

Since I won't have reports on my Hybrid Maverick MPG until at least December (Build is on 11/8) here are total cost reports on my last two vehicles (1987 Mazda 626, 1998 Ford Ranger XLT SuperCab) and the wife's 2009 Honda CR-V which she is still driving.

The 1987 Mazda 626 I had for 11 years, the 1998 Ford Ranger XLT SuperCab I had for 16 years and 2 months. The wife is still driving the 2009 Honda CR-V which is going on 12 years 9 months.

The absolute best vehicle we have ever owned based on cost per month was the 1998 Ford Ranger XLT SuperCab. The total cost of ownership was $36177.96 over 194 months that was $186.48 per month.

The following three pictures are in order:

1987 Mazda 626
1998 Ford Ranger XLT SuperCab
2009 Honda CR-V

I’ve reset the meter a few times to give it a “fresh start”, but still get a consistent 14-17. Usually hovers around 15.5. It’s as if you can watch the gas gauge needle going down!
It goes in on Monday for a diagnostic check. I’m hoping there’s something wrong with it and easily fixable. I can’t imagine that mileage is normal. I will be sure to report back when/if I get some answers.
Is it set to KM per Liter?

Same with Life Insurance on yourself. That really is something you NEVER want to have a claim on.

With my old cars I keep meticulous records of expenses, but I have a new truck so that I don’t have to. Hopefully the dealer will have a solution. Of course I feel like nowadays even a “cheap” vehicle should be delivered perfect to the customer.
The dealer told me they might need it “a few days”. Ugh.
If tire pressures were low the indicator would light. If the brakes were dragging I’d smell it.
Judging by the amount of gas I’ve bought in the first week of driving I’d say the 14-17 mpg is pretty accurate, if not optimistic. At just under 300 miles I should be still on the tank of gas it was delivered with.
im optimistic, but disappointed.
my worst fear is that they will tell me there’s nothing wrong.
