was wondering after taxes and reporting for capital gains and licensing, insurance, title work, etc. what was your approximate profit?
I was pondering this for myself, and on my XLT Lux Hybrid my out the door with sales tax, registration and fees was about $31,300, so realistically what would Carmax offer me to make the profit above that worth it? If Carmax offered me say $33k, I'd get all the money I put into it back, with a small profit. And then I'd have to get in line for a more expensive 2024.

Am coming up on a year of ownership and 6k miles and waited a year for the vehicle cant imagine selling it I like all the looks and comments I get. Only problem I've had is the radio cuts out, hopefully they can fix that when I bring it in for second oil change and all the recalls it has.

My neighbor is sales director at Carmax. Occasionally he'll ask us if we're interested in selling because he's sure he can get us ~$32k for the XLT hybrid we paid $26,200 OTD for. Similarly, we waited a year and love the truck (the radio cutting out about once a month is annoying). I really don't think we could get something else that meets our needs better for $32k other than putting in an order for a '24 and waiting again.

We're taking it in for the first oil change and all the recalls next weekend.

You don't typically owe any taxes or fees when you sell, o they than perhaps a small notary fee. The buyer pays all else.

As for capital gains I doubt anyone is getting a 1099 for profit on resale of a vehicle. My guess is many people do not report this profit and short of combing sales records and cross-matching data it's probably not easy to find everyone who made a few thousand bucks on a vehicle.

Bought a one owner 2004 Ford Focus for $2450. I'm going to save this money for a rainy day. 😂

Was offered 40k for mine , I paid 31k still said no , I don’t need the money I’ve owned F-150’s my hole life and this is my first vehicle in 20yrs that fits in my garage. Not mad at guy’s making money but I waited 13 months and 5-10 grand extra isn’t worth it to me.
$40,000!
Who offered you that?

Now that's like the complete opposite. I love my Mav. Most favorite vehicle I have ever owned and that's including jeeps and mustangs.
Right! Pretty happy myself. My dealer was great too.
