If we don't get our hybrid orders and have to order the Ecoboost. is it better to get a Maverick Ecoboost or Santa Cruz?
Just a question, hopefully I'll get my hybrid.

Dollar for Dollar? EB Mav all day in my opinion. If I didn't mind paying the local $5K markup? That puts the Maverick directly into Santa Cruz money and at that point, I'm going Santa Cruz. Nicer interior IMO, better towing, better warranty. All IMHO.

See the thread I started on this topic a few months back and you'll see a hundred different opinions. Bottom line, it's a coin toss if the styling doesn't offend you and they both meet your wants and needs. Remember that you're asking a bunch of Maverick fan boys on a Maverick forum what to buy - guess what the answer's gonna be...

If you look at my build signature, I can get essentially the same truck from Hyundai with a 10 year warranty and much higher quality and vastly better tech content for slightly less than MSRP on my Maverick. And since local Hyundai dealers are knocking as much as $1,500 off of Santa Cruz, even less. The main reason I didn't just go SC from the start was just that I actually like the crappy and cheap hard plastic Ford interior. It reminds me of the crappy and cheap hard plastic interior in my old Ranger, and I don't feel like I have to babysit it like the fancy soft and piano black Santa Cruz. Otherwise the SC, in my opinion, blows the Maverick out of the water. I'm still thinking of trading in the spring. I love the SEL AWD trim because it doesn't have a turbo for longevity, doesn't have a hybrid for expensive repairs down the road, and has a well-proven and trouble free conventional automatic transmission.

I was literally a few days from buying a sage grey SC SEL AWD when I received a build date on my Maverick. I truly believe I would be equally satisfied with either truck. They each have unique strengths and weaknesses. You need to test drive them both and make up your own mind. Just remember there is a lot of FUD and fake facts being thrown at you on this forum.

Go on U tube and watch the EB Maverick vs SC video
The turbo SC has a DCT transmission which are prone to overheating
But at the end of the day get what you want

Don't fall for the incredibly long warranty on the SC they have to do it or no one in their right mind would buy a Hyundai product. Just Google Hyundai fire and recalls. They haven't figured out how to build a car since my high school days 30 years ago. Think about it why would a dealer be selling SC under MSRP when the mavericks can't be kept in stock. If you watch the comparisons for EB maverick even the hybrid vs SC on YouTube the Maverick eats the SC lunch even though on paper the SC seems to have the upper hand. Way better off-road than the SC and no DCT to deal with. Ford's been building trucks forever Hyundai not so much. You have to figure the pedigree matters.

To get a more Apples to Apples comparison you should add the price of a Ford extended warranty to the Mavericks cost to get a more equal warranty even though you will not be to get exactly the same warranty. I have not bought one but there are several dealers which have been mentioned here like Flood Ford which sell the Ford extended warranty without a large makeup like at most dealerships.

When looking at the Santa Cruz pay a lot of attention to the visibility and especially the rear visibility which I did not like when looked at one. I have seen the poor visibility mentioned in reviews too. The rear visibility was the main reason that I would not choose the Santa Cruz and will likely get something else if I end up not getting a Maverick.

When I looked at the Santa Cruz last summer the salesman said that they were mainly making the high trim level versions. I don't know how true that is but If you are looking for a truck for less than $30K a Santa Cruz may be really hard to find in that price range even if the prices return to MSRP this spring.

The cost you have to pay and the utility you need should be the deciding factors. I got a great out the door price and awesome financing rate for my mav and it does all I could wish for from towing 4k to Ave. Mpgs of 25-26 with mixed driving. I'd have to pay $10k more for a SC to tow and all the while I'm driving it the mileage difference would increase the total cost of ownership for the SC. Assuming reliability is close to the same for both.

Maverick on order myself and have been going back and forth. Sure, for ~$30K Maverick XLT EB 4K tow is pretty darn good. But will I be happy with that truck or just want to upgrade when the new Ranger comes out? On the other hand, for $10K more, I can get a Limited trim Santa Cruz and get the tech I want, especially adaptive cruise and a more premium interior and ride. Towing also goes up to 5K pounds but the hitch setup alone being so low tells you that Ford is the truck company, not Hyundai. How much this matters though for <5K lb loads is up for opinion though I think.

Recalls and warranty I think is a legitimate concern but Ford is also one to talk. Luckily, the Maverick EB has a pretty proven 2.0L and a simpler design of all Ford's different models, I think it will fair well. Santa Cruz has the dual clutch transmission and a recall for the transmission oil pump already. They have been replacing whole transmissions btw.

It's a tough decision, and I don't have the right answer if there even is one. The Maverick is too good a deal to pass up, and I'm pretty sure I'm still going to pick up my XLT. (Lariat is too costly when the base platform is still a $20K truck) Plan on test driving a Santa Cruz both before and after pickup. We'll see if I change my mind. I'm a simple guy but if it's a car you want to keep until the wheels fall off, I don't want it to be too simple. To be continued...

“…hybrid for expensive repairs down the road…”
not to offend anyone, as my point of reference is being a prior Prius 2016 IV owner, though what reason is there to think the Ford hybrid engine will not be as dependable as the Prius hybrid engine?
Though guess maybe, of course, they are not the same though maybe their ecvt‘s are more akin to each other then the engines are.
Last, am a newbie and not tracked EB egines…seems they are provide great mpg if not worked hard. Don’t know if EB is a turbo or has other features that might make them burn out faster.

I have bought numerous Mavericks and really like them but all things being equal I could be just as happy with a SC. Buy what you want and what checks the most boxes for the money. Regardless of what you buy next year it will be just another used truck.
You might also go to a SC forum and ask what they think of the Maverick. :p

I can summarize the average Maverick owner from the point of view of the Santa Cruz forums: "A dull, boring person whom you wouldn't want to date who buys a dull, boring, unimaginative vehicle to match his personality". I looked in the mirror just now and thought, "hmm, they might be on to something there".

I love going over to that forum because it's a laugh to see that they're really the same as us. Every Santa Cruz insult on this forum is matched by an equally funny Maverick insult on that forum. And you see the whole spectrum of personalities. From the nice people, to the logical ones, to the emotional ones, to the abusive ones.

That's valid. I should have phrased that differently. I'm coming from the viewpoint of somebody who's watched family go through a ridiculously expensive Honda hybrid battery replacement out of warranty. So I saw them get burned on a "reliable" brand. But statistically it was probably just that one bad apple. I should have said that a high-cost hybrid battery replacement is probably very unlikely, but potentially very expensive. I shouldn't have implied (which I did) that Maverick hybrids are gonna drop like flies. As you said, the engine history suggests that's not true.
