“Ask the police”.
How about multiple choice question:
a) Ask my ENGINEER
b) Ask any commercial delivery person.
c) Ask any police or highway patrol person.
d) Don't necessarily ask your dealer.
chose one :p

e) Wait for a valid reason to deviate more than a few PSI from the manufacturer recommendation.

Works for the vast majority of drivers.

I don't think people need to "freak out" when their truck was delivered with 41 psi in the tires. Yet many post here do exactly that. That's not a large deviation.

My Maverick arrived with from 45 to 51 PSI - dealer admitted it was their fault…when mavericks are prepped to be put on a train they put 45-52 psi in the tires to reduce bounce during transport with axels strapped down…my dealer said their tech guy missed that delivery step on the check-list in reducing tire pressure. After 100 miles and a rough ride from my pickup I stopped and fixed the air pressure.
Interesting!

I had guessed the dealer had inflated mine to that level so I'd be impressed with the additional MPG that would likely result. But I'd also be unimpressed with the harsh ride, so that didn't really seem plausible. I like the transport explanation a lot better!

Puzzling Guy, maybe too much THC back in the day
Unfortunately there are people like that in many forums who actually know very, very little, then google and cut/paste a bunch of crap with the belief that whomever posts the most words is the 'winner'.

Just like the K&N filter thread, the battery thread, like this thread, and like my favorite, his analogy that it's good to have metal particles suspended in engine oil because it sands internal engine surfaces smooth like using sandpaper to sand a wood floor.

So much free entertainment.. :ROFLMAO:

Just everyone from the lawyers to the car designer agree it's a pretty safe pressure for a wide variety of conditions.

Automotive designers don't agree on tire pressure, car designers could care less about tire pressures, it's not what they do. Automotive designers design cars and trucks and elements of cars and trucks......

Can you imagine how boring this forum would be without such people? I don't think you can google some thing like: it is good to have metal particles suspended in engine oil because it sands internal engine surfaces smooth like using sandpaper to sand a wood floor. This is not google. ENGINEER told me :). How about asking police or delivery guys for correct UPS pressure? it is very creative !

Short version - any pressure that gives you what you want in performance characteristics, and is between the placarded tire pressure and the one on the sidewalls, is likely fine.

Overinflation or under inflation are both undesirable. However, appropriate inflation is a range of pressures, not a magic number above or below which destruction occurs. Any choice of tire pressure is a compromise (tire life, wear patterns, traction, road feel, harshness, heat build up, efficiency, etc.)

I run mine at 40, which works well for me. I don't find the ride harsh, I am certain I will not see excess center tread tire wear, and I like the greater efficiency of slightly harder tires. Those who say "Dude, you are destroying your suspension, wearing out your tires, etc." are wrong.

Never inflate higher than the pressure on the sidewalls, which is a safety hazard. The lowest safe pressure is difficult to define precisely, for that reason I would never intentionally run lower than the placarded pressure on a road.

With my Escape, I set this bad boy to 35 and just hit all four tires until it stops. Close enough. PLan to do the same with the Maverick.

My Ford Pass app says recommended cold pressure is 35 front / 35 rear. Owned it for a week and tire monitoring says all are high. Go look at the tires and they state maximum pressure is 51 psi.

What are you guys running or what are we suppose to be running? Stock XLT tires
No need to run at max pressure unless you are very heavily loaded, like having a slide in camper. 35psi will give more even treadwear, and a better ride than 51.

Honestly have learned a lot from this thread. Who knew a tire pressure thread would lead to this much animosity and varied opinions!

You won't see any oil threads from me :)

Well, look at it this way.....

Just like your truck depreciates the moment you drive it off the lot, your tires lose pressure the moment you disconnect them from the air pump and continue to lose pressure until the next time you connect to an air pump.

If you set them to exactly 35.00 psi, they will spend their whole lives below 35 psi when cold. Sorry I had to add "when cold" for the juvenile members here.

By starting at say, 38 or 40, you can hope they are at no less than 35 psi the next time you attach to an air pump.
💡

Not saying 3-5 psi is a big deal. It isn't.
But I just prefer to lean on the side of better MPG.

Have a merry Christmas!
