So I've heard. Making the fuel pump work harder and having it trying to sort out any debris in the bottom of the tank. Not sure if this is a leftover 1980's tale or if the engineers have figured a better pump.Consistently taking your fuel pumps below 1/4 tank will shorten their lives. Just sayin.

Thank you. Highly informative.100% left over 1980's tale.
100% safe to routinely run THIS truck to miles to empty zero.
At miles to empty zero you should have about a gallon left and your pump will be submerged for cooling.
The pump is in a sump at the extreme lowest point in the tank.
Since every ounce of every gallon comes from the extreme bottom of the tank, there's really no place for sediments to accumulate. There are 5 filters before the fuel lines and injectors. Two filters before the pump, three filters integral inside the pump.
General arrangement diagrams follow for removal and repair.

As I have mentioned before, the Maverick is the first vehicle I've every owned that gained miles per tankful! At first, I thought I was hallucinating! Truly an amazing truck.Just a little thing that makes me chuckle... I bought my maverick a week ago and when I got it it had a full tank and the dash said "340 miles to empty". I've driven it 100 miles since then and the dash now says "380 miles to empty." Clearly it's just averaging up since the initial 15 delivery miles, but still it makes me happy.
I have Done just that on at least a dozen Fords over the last 45 years without a fuel pump failure. Go figure?Consistently taking your fuel pumps below 1/4 tank will shorten their lives. Just sayin.
