I remember in April of 2020 when the national avg. was $1.84
I remember taking a picture of the $4.00 gas price when we were on a bicycle tour. I think it was 2006?

How about realistic suggestion?

The scale would have to be at the pump

And the MAXIMUM difference between a completely full and completely empty tank is 82.8 pounds. A typical scale that can weigh a vehicle would not be accurate to even 3 pounds, and thus would be off by half a gallon minimum

If we are going to include absurd unrealistic options, then you would want to create your own tank of known volume/weight and then measure the volume used or weight of fuel used.
My head is starting to hurt. Just drive the dang thing. Only reason I’ve kept up with mpg is if it drops off drastically then something maybe mechanically wrong, fuel leak, or somebody’s is doing a five finger discount on your gas tank. Now days you can generally discount that first cause, because the computers will tell you something has gone wrong.

I remember 1969 gas was 29 cents a gallon. It cost around $6. to fill my tank, 1967 Ford Gallaxie 500.
Ahh!, the days of simplicity. Now days even a rocket scientist can’t fix them when something goes wrong.

I remember being able to fill the gas tank in my '68 Austin-Healey Sprite (which held all of 7 gallons) for less than $2.50, before the OPEC oil crisis...

I also vaguely remember replacing the worn-out front pucks for the disk brakes myself for under $20. Took longer to figure out how to remove the "knock-off" wheels than to do the brake job.

100% agree. Just drive it. And when it's empty refill it. I keep track on mpg on phone app and that's it.
