Glad to see this is being resolved. I sporadically have had this issue, but not significantly enough that I consider it dangerous. I do agree that this likely won't be a recall, but sometimes in Dec I will reach out to my dealership to have the update installed.

Ford has finally acknowledged the braking problems with the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid. This video takes a walk into the issues, what people have been dealing with, why it happens and what Ford has to do about it.

There's another thread where a Maverick owner lost power while going down the highway and said that their brakes completely shut off. Do you know: Is there a hydraulic backup? If you completely lose power can you stomp on the pedal to get the brakes to engage?

There is absolutely a hydraulic backup. The guy you're talking about lost assist, not brakes. It's like when the engine shuts off and it is hard to steer. Requires more effort but you can do it. Same with brakes.

Just making sure....in @Shay 's video, it looks purely drive by wire.

I've had this problem come up several times, I never felt that it was "dangerous" but very annoying.
I will most assuredly be getting the software update.

pity the engineer who took a working Escape system and screwed it up
My guess is that Ford was trying to squeeze out every last millivolt from the regen system, without realizing the consequences.

I too have had this issue. Before being aware that this was “normal“, I had considered taking it in to have it checked out. I’ll also wait to contact the dealer in December for an appointment. It is discouraging that the exact part/system works perfectly on a different vehicle and someone decided to change the program. Having been in the manufacturing business, we often received repeat customers who wanted duplicate builds. Were they? Often times they were not because of turnover and new ways. Hopefully, they’ll get this sorted soon.

It's a vicious cycle at Ford.

Engineer A designs something that works reliably and then moves on to another project.

Engineer B comes along and says "we can save money by changing this" and changes it.

Problems ensue.

Engineer C fixes Engineer B's mistakes by reverting back to Engineer A's design.

Wash/rinse/repeat.

That was a different issue, the loss of power cable failure if I remember correctly. Yes there is a hydraulic backup in the case of power loss.

I knew the issue is different. I watched your video, great video BTW, and thought you may be able to clarify that there is a backup. I'm glad that there is! Thank you!

I'm not sure it would be legal to sell a car without brake redundancy of some sort. Mercedes started using what they call SBC, their brake-by-wire, back in the early 2000s and even then they had redundancy. That was quite the complicated system they ended up ditching later.

We engineers are genetically incapable of leaving well enough alone.
With 50K-70K MY22 beta testers out there, Maverick program office needs a better method to collect and evaluate customer complaints and feedback.

You would think this should be a easy fix.
My 2020 Escape hybrid doesn't do it. Maverick hybrid is pretty much a Escape with a bed the software is already available.

That's why this brake issue doesn't make sense to me. Ford has a very good hybrid system in the Escape. Copy that in the Maverick and all is well. Why change things and screw it up? At least Ford has finally acknowledged the problem and will have it fixed before my 23 is built. Maybe I should say hopefully built!

So this was not normal after all. Joke was on us lol. Glad it will just be a software patch. I’m glad I mentioned this to my tech when I brought it in for an oil change cause it was at least documented and noted. Comes with the territory of having a first year model. Im sure, this won't be the last patch either. Woo, guniea pigs.
