I'm curious if anybody bought the additional 6-year warranty on their Maverick. My truck should be coming in this week (I hope) and I was offered a 6-year additional warranty, I just want to get some feedback. It's expensive but might be worth it in the long run. What's your take on this?

My take is that if the warranty was worth it for the consumer, they wouldn't offer it. Extended warranties are the biggest moneymakers for dealerships.

Sure there are lemons out there that experience catastrophic and expensive failures of drivetrain components, but such failures are often "infant mortality" and therefore are covered with your factory warranty.

Remember tho.. its best to get an extended warranty closer to when the factory one is close to running out... as the extended warranty runs side by side with the factory one. It is not 6 years plus the factory one.

If you put in a few details at these links, you can get an idea of the cost. There are multiple dealerships that will cut you a VERY good deal. Flood Ford is one. Granger is another.

Often $50-100 over their wholesale cost. Please look into those other options before you buy it from the dealer you are getting your truck from (who will almost certainly try to take you for MUCH more of a markup).

I ran a poll on the warranties and maintenance plans. Some input there you might like -

I'm planning to double the basic warranty with a 6yr/75k extended warranty. No extended maintenance plan for me.

BUY it from Granger...50 over cost. I bought the Ford Premium 5 year/75k miles, 100 deductible for 655 for my hybrid.

I never buy an extended warranty. I'm a lower mileage user, so it would be a waste of money for me. I usually get bored with a vehicle by 4-5 years too. Rare that I keep them past 5 years.

What you don't know is what the prices will be like in three years. You'd only pay about $100 more for the warranty at today's prices so I would expect a similar difference in three years.

Flood Ford

Brand new truck (5 miles of use, 12 months or less from purchase) warranty prices w/$100 deductible.

Three year old truck (35k miles of use, 36 months or less from purchase) near end of original warranty, $100 deductible

If you have the means, I'd recommend getting it now.

If you saved 100.00 a month now by not paying... In 36 months you could pay cash and keep money in the bank.

Again... why pay for a side by side warranty?

It's not that easy to compare with the 3/36 as some things have shorter warranties. I think the led lights may only be 12 months. Never the less I bought it on my first one but passed on 2nd one. The prepaid maintenance package was harder for me to pass on but I did.

save 100 a month now...? I paid 655 up front for a 5 year/75k extended warranty at Granger, 100 deductible premium plan. Yes, they are side by side for 36k and then some, depending on components. I felt 655 was a very fair price, and I have NEVER ever bought an extended warranty.

That's definitely one way of looking at it but it requires discipline! I'd have to hide that stash away real good or my wife will use it on flowers for the garden, or bee hives, or something else!

Nope. Yarn! and more yarn! :cautious: She does do beautiful knitting. Woodenfeatherfarm.com has some examples of her work.

I didn't buy an extended warranty on my Maverick, since I won't be driving it much. I did buy one on my Bolt, however. I will be driving that a lot and it's my first EV, so I don't have an idea of what might go wrong with it

The "side by side" warranty has some benefits, such as rental car coverage (up to $60 per day with the enhanced extra cost rider), lighting and key coverage, etc. For example, the headlights of the truck don't have replaceable bulbs, and I've read that the LED headlights alone are $1100 parts. Per side.
