Over the weekend my Maverick lost all power while I was driving 65 mph on the interstate!!! The engine cut off and the battery went dead. No power to lights, no brakes, no power steering, no power whatsoever! It was very scary!! I was eventually able to drift the car to the median, but was nearly in an awful accident because I had no brakes. I'm sure I drifted 1/4 to a 1/2 mile. Once over to the side of the road, the car remained without power. The vehicle wouldn't even respond to the key fob. The vehicle has only about 8k miles. I understand from reading other posts that there is an issue with the battery wiring harness. It's unfathomable that Ford would sell a vehicle that could lose all power while in operation. I have had the vehicle towed to a Ford Dealer and have reached out to Ford about the issue
I had a similar issue happen to me back in August. About 5 miles after I picked up my new Maverick hybrid from the dealership, I lost power while I was merging onto a highway. In my situation brakes were still working and the dash was still on, as it was throwing off all sorts of warnings. By the time the tow truck arrived, however, the vehicle was totally dead. Issue ended up being a blown main fuse. Total mileage on the odometer when it broke down was 20 miles. Very dangerous situation. Glad you were able to pull over safely.

Hello,

Here's five minutes worth of research to find similar threads.

Guys, we should consider growing up and supporting each other, rather than having idiotic back and forth convos about 'show your proof!'.....I mean really?

The poor OP probably had the scare of his life and you are bickering about one helpful poster saying they have read this similar story before.
I have also read similar posts and it is concerning. Which doesn't mean it cannot be solved/rectified.

Here are a few of the threads, but there are more. And OP, the first link is for NHTSA and documented complaints. I hope this helps and I am glad you are okay!

None of those forum links are the same as OP described with total power loss and no brakes.

Edit: BUT a few of the nhtsa entries sound similar but usually involve a dashboard warning with power remaining on but with no acceleration; no mention of loss of brakes.

The (unfortunately) common wiring issue relating to this doesn't compute to me because the 12v battery in the hybrid is ironically not powering the 12v system while the truck is ‘on’. The HVB is providing 14.5v the whole time through the DC-DC converter. That said, I honestly know very little in terms of modern car electrical systems so I’m just speaking purely from that limited logic. Maybe the wiring harness issue could have additional impacts on fuses/breakers in some cases? It’s probably more complicated than I can possibly imagine but there’s my two cents.

Agreed.

None of my posts have been antagonistic in nature. To suggest otherwise is bewildering. This is a discussion forum, where we're supposed to discuss. Let's get back to that.

A claim was made that the OP's reported issue was (likely) the result of the known Maverick Hybrid 12V wire harness defect. If that were truly what's causing this, that would be extremely worrisome to all, particularly those who haven't had theirs inspected/repaired.

However, the symptoms do not match up with those typically reported. With a defective harness, a jump box or other jump start is (almost) always sufficient to get the vehicle up and running (at least until it's turned off, at which point it needs another jump).

If that is not what is causing OP's issue, which it does not appear to be - rather, some other fluke occurrence such as a blown main fuse - insinuating that the 12V wire harness is responsible serves to do nothing but instill unnecessary fear in those reading this thread. The harness defect is reason for concern, but so far it appears to only be a concern in terms of added difficulty getting the vehicle unlocked and started. Worrisome, yes, but not remotely on the same level as what OP reported.

Anyone who knows of previous instances where all electrical and motive power was lost with no warning is welcome to share the relevant posts where that was discussed, so that everyone here can be better informed.

Hopefully none of your posts don't intend to be rude or antagonistic. Unfortunately, they do come off that way. I have zero dog in this fight. And due to the tone of your posts, I felt compelled to do a cursory search for similar issues in the hopes that it is of assistance to the OP. It's unfortunate to participate in a side track thread to a serious issue. We can all do better!

I wish you well in your pursuit to assist the OP ❤

Le sigh.

@HybridOnOrder is spot on. Worthless bickering here to prove a point.

The OP's dealer needs to find out what happened here.

This is my main gripe with this hybrid truck! I've had this happened to me as well while I was on the freeway with my family.

I'm on a verge of selling my other car to make this my primary commuter but this issue is very concerning and the fact that Ford is not doing anything about it!

Like a lot of you know, I'm torn about this truck! I've always wanted a truck and this was a sweet compromise to have one as long as it won't be a gas guzzler!

It's getting harder and harder to convince my wife and myself that this truck is worth it!

It's like being in a bad relationship! Every signs points to parting ways but she's "one of a kind!"

By your own account yours did not completely power off, only went into limp mode.

Just had a scary experience with my hybrid XLT while on the freeway! All of a sudden, the engine light came on and the message "stop safely Now" came on along with losing acceleration. The gas pedal was unresponsive and was able to cruise to the next exit crawling with hazards on!

I turned off thr engine and turned it back on after a few minutes and engine light was still on but everything else worked seemlessly fine.

Was able to drop it off at the dealerahip to have it looked at but you know, it seems to always happens on the weekends and it wouldn't get seen the earliest monday.
What was the dealership's findings?

I hate hearing this happen to hybrid owners. So far I've been lucky that this hasn't happened to me with my hybrid. But I will be taking in my hybrid to get an oil change soon. My question is since I'm taking it in for an oil change, should I have them check the battery terminals?
Most definately.

Yes it’s a well documented issue on this forum but instead of the hybrid owners raising hell to ford and the gov they blow it off as basically ok and go buy battery jump boxes and try to fix it themselves. Somebody’s gonna die because of it
WTF are you talking about? The jumper is if or when we get stranded.

Hi, This is a selfish and tough question. Are the new trucks that are being delivered, supposed to have this problem as well. Meaning did ford fix this as they kept building new trucks?

By your own account yours did not completely power off, only went into limp mode.

I did lose control of the breaks and had to cruise to exit just like OP's experience. Engine light came on and a message asking to safely stop now! It happened to me in the middle of the freeway and I was able to cruise to the slowest lane then eventually to an exit.

I remember the brakes and accelerator weren't engaging but somehow, when I exited, I was able to come to a slow stop. It's was hands down the scariest thing that my family has experienced!

Took it to Ford and I insisted there are issues with the wiring harness on the battery. Nothing came up according to the advisor and said it was simply a mis communication in the vehicle. Up to this point, I see no tsb or recall for my vin but can't put my mind at ease.

BTW, I have not experience something similar to it since but I have to add that I did see a message pop up the other while in my commute with no car directly in front of me.

It had a flashing red message about a forward collision indicating a crash is imminent! Again, there was no car directly ahead of me.

Did anything pop up on your app? Sounds like maybe the alternator went out.
I haven't read through the whole thread, so maybe this is mentioned already, but there is no alternator.
