Ah, found the Ytuber. Professor Kelly @ Weber U.
Here he takes apart Ford's 3rd generation hybrid transaxle:
I'll admit this is mostly over my head  but perhaps smarter folks will enjoy and understand Kelly's teardown.
He also tore apart the 1st Gen that I drove back in the day...
Exactly. Planetary gears. And yea I think there is a Ytuber whose taken apart one of Ford's HEV transaxles. The Mav is the 3rd or 4th gen of Ford's HEV transaxle depending on how you count them. (I drove the 1st which was put in the Escape in the 2010s.)
So the 4Lo gearing stuff makes no...
Well, like all Surveys Says, Steve Harvey would have a field day joking about how people respond.
"that kept you from driving your Maverick ..."
0 times. My Mav has always started and gotten me to point B.
" ... as needed"
Looks like the OP did a bit of word magic with this survey. What is...
This made me miss my '12 Volt :) Fun little car, cheap, and despite what naysays said the Volt didn't blow up. :D (Actually I had 0 issues with my Volt. My Mav ... it's CEL has been lit for 5 months now but Ford says "no biggie".)
I agree that AWD is overrated ... 4x4 in my Chevy Colorado has...
Thx to folks for taking a look at the pic and checking.
The dealer didn't say the replacement didn't fit. They said it was "defective". I've not had issues with this dealer's techs in the past and they go above and beyond. One time they didn't charge me for a non-warranty wiring fix. That...
I don't know. The replacement does look different than what they took out of my Mav, but I'm not a tech. I'm not sure that's the right question anyways. The dealer's tech tried replacing and said the part is defective, and are sending it back to FoMoCo.
Interesting. My dealer just said the part arrived but was "defective". To define how it was "defective", the dealer sent the pic below, and told us we're back to square 1 and waiting on parts, like you said.
Yup, totally agree. I also remember something similar about the MPGe formula last I looked into it. It made no sense to calculate the #.
@Darnon 's point was probably that the government -- I'm assuming the EPA -- didn't want people to change from the good ole MPG or have to fire off an extra...
Yup, and a feel-good #. I imagine a government committee debating it ... "How can we dumb this down? Oh add an 'e" to MPG, and a silly calculation that makes the # big, then let the public swallow a big one." :ROFLMAO:
That's always the case.
Still, it's a bit hyperbolic to say plugin-hybrids are "the worst" for long hauls. Sure, their mileage would be better without having to lug around a high voltage battery after it's empty but the weight penalty isn't big. Plugin-hybrids are already more efficient than...
👏👏
Let me count how many times the thing I drove caught fire ... 0.
Let me count how many times I was in car accidents from other people on the road ... 4.
"may the odds be ever in your favor"
Yup, the engine ain't new. Ford got the basic design from Mazda ... I think back in the late 2000s. The Hybrid 2.5L variant got Ward's Top 10 engines way back in 2010. So this engine has been on an Atkinson cycle for a long time. There wasn't some complete engine re-design being tried out on...
I read that Ford's OEM one is a taped / glued on version. Not sure I'd be comfortable with that on my clear coat paint, Midwest winter freeze/thaw cycles are harsh on adhesives, and there's probably fading over the long haul.
Poking around on this, owners have tried 2 other hood deflectors...
Lead foot Lynda has to pay more to drive fast. It's the rule of the road.
I've no sympathy for people who want to drive fast AND for cheap. *
* There are no official crash tests at >60 MPH. Search for IIHS and NHTSA crash test speeds. They assume a driver's reaction time can brake the car's...
Yea, Ytube recommended a guy's video who tested several windshield cleaners and basically came to the same conclusion. Mesh sponge and elbow grease. I'll still switch to Rain-X too. Can't hurt.
OK, I'll look for that version of Rain-X to fill my windshield tank.
Interesting that vinegar does the trick. I don't mind the smell ... it's outside anyways.
Thx!
What are folks doing about bug smacked windshields?
My Mav's windshield always looks like a bug cemetary after a drive.
How about front hood deflector? Do those help?
Obviously washing too. I spray the windshield down about every other day now. I'm asking for other options.
How about...
