Question, if someone lost all power like the OP would any of the safety features work? Seat belt tighteners, airbags, ABS etc...

That would make this even worse!

In the context under which the OP reports, it appears both the high voltage system including the ICE, transmission, electric motors; as well as the 12V system that powers all the electronics, all completely went out at once. If that were to happen, all you would have would be manual steering (a whole lot harder than the power steering you're used to) and very minimal braking force as any pressure in the system would quickly be used up. You might as well have nothing if you're not extremely careful.

@HybridOnOrder is spot on. Worthless bickering here to prove a point.

The OP's dealer needs to find out what happened here.
Inquiring minds wish to know how this line of responses is contributing to this thread. Where is this "worthless bickering" coming from? Seems to be the ones who are derailing the thread by making such accusations and attacks.

🤦

That is exactly what happens! It happened to me

Since you are one of the people who were put in direct danger by this, you just might have standing to be a lead plaintiff on a class action lawsuit over this. You should probably contact your area lawyer/bar legal referral service.

Note that I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV. My advice is simply from an educated guess.

If you win, toss me some.
We live in a society that is so litigious it is embarrassing. No other country on earth is like this.

I owned a 2005 F150 5.4 (purchased it new) that would go into ”fail safe mode”. At speed the engine would shut off, no power steering, no power brakes. I would shift into neutral, turn off the key, then restart the engine. Did that 3 or 4 times before I brought it back to the dealer. They fixed it at their expense but I never got an explanation or saw a recall.
You definitely got an explanation. Repairs are required to be put on your invoice. Especially when done under warranty. The number of times I make repairs for a client, and tell them specifically what we are doing, and then give them an invoice with detailed information on the repair only to later have them say they don't know what was done is shocking. Consumer responsibility regarding ownership of vehicles has been degrading for years and continues to get worse.

I agree, but there are incidents that justify using the justice system. In this instance, Ford has put the lives of people at severe risk. If a vehicle completely shuts down while traveling at high speed (OP said no IP warning appeared, IP went blank) among other vehicles, and also has a complete brake failure, they are risking people's lives.

Remember, OP clarified that the brakes were not functional, that he did stand on them, and nothing at all happened.

I'd also remind you that if they vehicle electrical system is not operable, the airbags likely will not deploy either. There are supposed to be backup capacitors, but they're no guarantee.

If this isn't big enough for a court case, what is? When people finally die because of it?

First you are talking to a consumer who was clearly in some level of panic, at his full word. His description of how that failure occurred and what he experienced does not jive with what likely happened. For example he described the brake pedal going to the floor. That is the opposite of what happens when you remove vacuum assist (shut the engine off) with brakes. You have one good press while you still have vacuum stored and the brakes will work. Not as easily as with the engine running but they absolutely work. He had a terrible experience and I feel for him. Ford clearly got something wrong here. But to immediately scream lawsuit is ridiculous. And again, he was scared and I get it. But he also didn't almost die. He wasn't even injured. I've almost died and when people toss stuff like that around it makes my head spin. You can't almost die without even getting into an accident. Again, I am sure it was terrible for him, and if he was my client I would be doing backflips to get him taken care of. But people almost always need to take a breath. P.S. ALL modern cars COULD experience something like this. Like I said, Ford clearly got something wrong here. Bur driving around in a new $20K car, or a $250K car this is a reality.

Until/unless proven incorrect, I will take OP's experiences at face value, because we have no other source. Everything we can say is conjecture, while OP was the only one out there actually experiencing it.

Well, you can also take 20+years of actual automotive and engineering experience at face value as well. This is like when I have clients tell me "I've never had a car do this before" which means absolutely nothing. I see 60 cars a week and at a store that can see 500/week. I have a relative level of expertise on this.

Again, though. My major point is not about what he experienced. It is more about yelling LAWSUIT at every inconvenience.

I'm not your client, and I'm not asking you.

Unless you were out there actually experiencing OP's event, then it's all conjecture. "Well, it SHOULD have worked this way" "Well it SHOULDN'T have done that".

Again, this is a discussion forum.

If you want a private conversation without "uninvited" people chiming in, feel free to find the appropriate venue for that.

There's a lot of that on here, and in this very thread...
