The car has an oil life monitor. Change the oil when your at 10percent oil life.

Anyone who does it before is a retard and waisitng their money and time.
It all depends, I’ve got a 08 Acura TSX and 11 Honda Element i sold this year when my Mav arrived. I changed the oil every 6 mths! Both cars had less than 6,000 miles and I do the same for my 70’s Trans Am

Good work OP! I think I'll go the easy route and just get it done at the dealership lol. I'm close to 4k miles and plan on getting it done at 5k.
I just had my Dealer do mine @39604 miles with tire rotation and oil disposal for $93.00 well worth it. Especially since the lugnuts requires 140 ft pounds of torque! I know you can get a loaner from most auto parts store but that just adds to more time and as as we know time is💰

I'm curious with a hybrid how often do you really need to change the oil if you're doing a lot of City driving.
Oil is the life blood of every engine. Better safe then sorry. I see a lot of people having oil burning problems these days just over 100,000 miles due to sticking piston rings from these 10,000 mile oil changes.
I'm a ASE Master technician for 40 years as well as a Ford Instructor and I change my oil every 5,000 miles.

Don't have my Mav yet but oil is on sale. What kind of oil does the 2.5 engine take? Thanks

Thanks! My cars and bike take 5-30 and both of those cars are going away when the Mav comes so I'm not going to stockpile the wrong stuff.

The Ow part of 0w -20 is when the oil is cold once the engine warms its the second weight number (20) that counts. So not seeing anything to do with tolerances. its just that it stays thin at real cold temp were 5w 20 would be a little thicker ONLY at start up when super cold . . Thats is why they say use OW weight if operating in super cold temps . There must be a reason maybe because in the hybrid since the gas engine is not running all the time the oil stays colder longer? just a guess. Either way I would use what ever weight the manufacturer says too.
The "W" is for winter, and the number before it represents the viscosity at 0 degrees.

I use an oil pump to remove the oil on several vehicles I have now. Just wondering if I could do the oil change from the topside.
I don't recall which video it was, but I think I remember seeing someone try to use a pump to pull the oil out through the dipstick tube. Once the pump started pulling air they opened the drain plug and quite a bit of oil came out. There must be something blocking the pump tube from fishing all the way down to the bottom of the oil pan.

Cleaning the threads and sealing the surface of the filter and adding clean oil to the filter seal prior to installation.
Thank you for specifically saying clean oil. Several of the "first Maverick oil change" videos that I've seen on YouTube show the person doing the change lubricating the filter seal with the oil in the drain pan. I cringe each time, but wondered if they knew something that I didn't.

Short trips that don't make operating temperature will increase fuel contamination in the oil.
Is this effect exacerbated in the Hybrid systems since the ICE isn't used nearly as much as a normal ICE vehicle? I'm not trying to start an argument like our banned friends, but truly trying to learn.

I would think that hybrids are un the same category if the engine isn't getting to operating temperature each time it fires up. But never having owned a Hybrid I can only speak to engines that I have owned that don't reach normal operating temp, like my welder and air compressor. I have to change oil in both of those more often due to many of the operations I use them for aren't allowing the engine to get to normal temperature. The oil in them breaks down faster than it does in my autos and trucks.
I would consult someone that doesn't have any skin in the game like an independent mechanic about it. If you can find an independent mechanic that does engine rebuilds on Atkinson engines they would know more than most other people.

That's why I don't go to Jiffy Lube anymore.
