I ordered a Santa Cruz… should I still order a Maverick in Sep?

So I got tired of hearing about the horror stories of Ford’s entire car ordering program, and put a deposit down on a Santa Cruz SEL Premium. The turbocharged one. I’m excited and all for it, but for some reason the Maverick still calls to me. If I were to place an order on a 2023 Mav, I would go for exactly what I want, which is the lariat lux hybrid. I’d choose the hybrid Mav over a turbo Mav or turbo Cruz any day if all were offered to me in a reasonable amount of time. My question is—would it be a waste of everyone’s time if I were to still place an order on a lariat lux hybrid this September? What are the chances that the hybrid Mav beats my Santa Cruz to delivery?

That‘s the Cruz I “ordered“. That fuel economy deeply offends me.

> Pricing: my 2022 Lariat Hybrid First Edition (requires Lux Pkg) was $34,160 ($37,200 out the door), deduct $1400 for the FE package then add the increase for 2023 pricing, the Mav will still be priced better than the $36,130/$37,875 for the SC Prem;
> It's a Ford Truck (nuff said there);
> Easier to modify &/or add accessories AND
> Many more aftermarket accessories available since its domestic
> Cost less to insure AND fill up

I believe you probably would get the Santa Cruz quicker, but if’s you don’t really want or need it then why not wait for the hybrid you prefer? It’s upto you, but as you’ve already explained that fuel economy is more preferable (& cheaper with maverick to buy hybrid) then what made you order the Hyundai in first place? You should also drive both if’s possible to verify your choice.

I was of the impression Hyundai does not do custom/special orders for the Santa Cruz?, it just makes what it feels like and ships them to the dealers. So getting exactly the package, options and color you want is more random luck and could be a minute

My Hybrid Lariat Lux was $30,865.

You might end up not liking the SC. The MPG might offend you even more so I'd still order the Mav. Just make sure the deposit is refundable so you lose nothing if you decide not to get it.

Did Hyundai change their policy recently? They have NOT been taking customer orders in the USA, period. Odds are you can find the Hyundai SC you want at MSRP if you look at dealers within 200-500 miles, but they go really fast.

Also, you'll see them listed above MSRP a lot, just like the Maverick. I found that if you are "in state" most dealers will sell for MSRP. And most dealers will do an inventory swap so you don't have to drive far. Also, I would not be the least bit surprised if you can get a higher trim like that Premium below MSRP now. SC is a hot seller, but not quite as insane as the Maverick once you get up to the more expensive trims.

Ignore all the SC loathing on this forum - it's childish (in fairness, there is just as much Maverick loathing over on the SC forums). It's a great vehicle, and I came very close to buying one when my Maverick build date suddenly materialized.

If the SC fuel economy numbers offend you, you might want to wait a few months. There's a reasonably chance Hyundai might offer a plug in hybrid in the 23 model. They have one for the Tucson from which the SC is derived. I wonder if a plug in would qualify for the BEV tax rebates?

I will say one reason I don't have an SC parked in my driveway is because I owned a Kia Soul Turbo with the DCT transmission. It was a hot little car, but I just found the DCT wasn't to my personal taste.

Oh, if you do get an SC, remember to taunt all the Maverick owners you see with "Nice Mexican car there. My SC was made right here in America". You know, just some good natured ribbing. I may have to put a Mexican flag on my Maverick when it arrives just for truth in advertising.

I would order the Hybrid Maverick since that seems to be the gut feeling of what your really want. Assuming that is accurate, I think you would always regret buying the SC, especially every time to see a Maverick, just IMO

The Maverick is a SUV (Edge) just like the SC, it has a front end made to look like the F-150, this front end does not make it any more of a truck then the SC, just saying..

That mpg is pretty bad for a small vehicle. My 2012 Chevy Colorado with 134,000 miles still gets about 20 mpg and it has a full size bed. I have a September 12 build date for my $20,000 hybrid. Can not wait !

Actually the Maverick is based on Escape/BroncoSport, not Edge.
