Ordered in January, waited and waited. Ditched my bicycle. Borrowing my mother in laws car. Oh the horror I’m in for.

I ended up selling my Hybrid Maverick to a car buying company for a profit. I'm not confident in the quality of the Maverick as mine spent more time at the dealer than in my driveway in the 4 months I owned it.

That, combined with the quality of the interior plastic that can get scratched by a ghost, the thin soft paint that gets chipped easily, and the interior rattles were the straw that broke the camel's back. I don't know if they are going to fix this stuff for the 2023 models but I have a feeling the Mav is going to be one of the most problematic vehicles of all time if they don't get on the ball and work out these bugs. I would even be willing to pay $2000 extra for the Maverick if it didn't have these issues and if it had a real paint job.
That is unfortunate. I had similar concerns based on some of the discussion on the forum, but my experience has been very positive over the 3+ months and 6500 miles.
Sure, there are a few quirks, but I haven't had the paint issues thus far. My previous Mazda, a '16 CX-5 seemed to have far worse paint regarding chips. Hopefully, I won't get bit with this "cable issue" plaguing some hybrids.
I tend to rest my left elbow on the door, higher than the armrest. The hard plastics in the Maverick are holding up well, I have worn soft surfaces in that location on other vehicles, notably my wife's Honda.

Sold my 2016 Mercedes E-class last summer. Subscribed to Volvo - got a XC40 T5 R-Design. Liked the vehicle, hated the powertrain. Returned that subscription after 5 months.

Bought Forte GT 6-speed for $23,500. A few months later it somehow became infested with spiders. Sold it to Vroom for $26,000.

Bought a 2017 Hyundai Elantra from a relative for $12,000. Couple of months went by, hated it. Sold it to Carmax for $16,000.

Ended up with a 2022 Maverick XL EB that I had ordered for my dad but he didn't end up needing or wanting it. Paid MSRP for it, $22,575. Drove it for a month, loved it! But $$ talks, sold it for $34,500.

We currently have the G70 and a DriveGo Subscription car (a 2022 Kicks SR) that we use if we need a second vehicle. It's cheap, and we can return it at any time. Currently waiting on the Maverick to replace the Kicks and our 2023 Integra that will replace the G70.

Sept: Lost my CRV in hurricane IDA (actually swept away in it, stuck in a treetop for 4 hours, fun times...)
Next day: Borrowed my dad's "extra vehicle" to give me a chance to get a replacement.
Oct: Ordered a Maverick, should be about 2 months but could be as long as 3 months...
Jan: This is taking a really long time. You sure you're cool, dad? (Yep)
Mar: This is taking a really long time. You sure you're cool, dad? (Yep)
Apr: Catastrophic transmission failure in dad's vehicle. Awkward. We split the large bill.
I give the vehicle back immediately and never borrow anything from anyone again.
I quickly buy whatever used vehicle is available, using Mav down payment money.
Wife and I plan to trade in either this "new-used" vehicle or her current vehicle for Mav.
"New-used" vehicle decides to nope out on highway (bad throttle body, limp mode activated)
Used dealer honors repair
May: Rebuilt throttle body fails again. Bit the bullet to have proper dealer replace with new part on my own dime to ensure it won't happen again. Good so far.
Days ago: Wife's vehicle has catastrophic transmission failure. Seriously.

Moral of the story: A lot of life can happen when you are waiting 9 months for a vehicle to show up.

Hard decision:
A $25k invisible truck that's worth $35k-$39k
A "new-used" 1 owner car that's now a 2 owner car and won't help as a trade-in
A car needing a transmission before it's even fully paid off (one year, and one thousand miles beyond powertrain warranty)
It sucks this all happened to you. People seriously underestimate tranmission fluid changes (not flushes). Soooo important to keep the transmission going. I’ve only had 1 fail. It was a shitty Nissan Jatco belt driven eCVT that Nissan replaced for FREE just a few miles before the extended (120k mile) warranty expired.

With the new-used car only 1k miles out of warranty I would be asking (and fight) for a 1 time goodwill repair. That shouldn’t fail anywhere near the warranty period. Perhaps agree to buy an extended warranty if they fix it gratis or split the bill.

Not knowing the the car and the off the wall (?) dealer you got it from its hard to give straight advice.

The bad luck 🍀 might extend to the Maverick. Whoever is making your decisions perhaps should take a break. Regardless perhaps sell it. Your profit margin forced seems highly optimistic, you could get it though. Take the funds and fix the current turd bucket and order another Maverick for 2023 on day 1.

another option would be to buy a different cheaper car. A early 2000 Xterra is a nice ride.

Hindsight is always 20/20 (well, at least it *should* be...) so the final chapter on my Mav journey has yet to be written, since I don't have it yet.

I sold my F150 in the summer of '21, taking advantage of what I thought was a short term hot used truck market, put $9K in my pocket from what the truck cost me in 2018, thinking I'd grab another truck when the market returned to "normal" in a year or so.... ha, so much for that prediction! Grabbed up a '21 Honda Pilot AWD SE in the interim, for reasons I won't go into here, but it's been solid so far. Then the Mav was announced, and I put my order in for that, since it fit perfectly in my "smaller than an F150" lifestyle. Never thought I'b be nearly a year in with no truck.

So, looking back at this point, I wish I'd just kept the F150.....probably worth more now then when I sold it a year ago. Again, the hindsight thing... But to be fair, I've beat on the Pilot pretty hard, basically using it as a truck, and it's performed admirably. Still looking forward to getting my Mav tho, as a true "truck" is much more practical for me. I'll hand the Pilot to wifey, and unload her RDX.

Someday....

Sort of maybe? Ordering in August, have a 14 year old Ranger in great shape except that if the order takes too long I'm really gonna have to put new tires on, who knows what else, it's old. Really hesitant to trade it in for anything else, operating on the hope/prayer/please god-universe-whatever, get my Mav here soon. Im ordering an XLT with NO add-ons at all, will have dealer add a spray in liner. 🤞🤞🤞

Just think of all the similar dramas going on now because of the delays. My little Buick is doing well but I have all sorts of projects piling up for the lack of a truck.
Interest rates are going up along with my anxiety level. I stop in and see the dealer every week or two for the last seven months.

Gotta go easy on those transmissions. No more neutral drops.

Just purchased a certified '19 Outback due to giving my stepdaughter my old car who needs to drive for completing HS and enrollment in college. My wife and I went into this decision-making process with an understanding that we MIGHT need to keep this vehicle in case of any dealer shenanigans, or if I end up liking it better, or Ford drops the ball for '22 to '23 order conversions, etc.

If you've purchased an interim vehicle, what did you get? What was your criteria? How does your interim vehicle compare to the Maverick you ordered?
October will be one year since I ordered my base hybrid xl with only a drop in bedliner. If Ford still can’t get their act together by then, I will either look for the cheapest hybrid car or will put some money into my 2012 Colorado. Brakes need work. Don’t want to go into Winter with 50,000 miles on the tires. Have to get it inspected by September 30. Who knows what will fail? When I was a kid 100 years ago, you could still get any product delivered in six to eight weeks by dinosaur. No more excuses from Ford. You don’t go a month and not schedule ANY Mavericks ! Unacceptable.

I know you and your wife have been through a lot here, but the two most important points are—
Sounds like you have a very good Dad
Be glad your Dad is still alive

I can't address your concern as I decided to get the Maverick when I read about it in Car and Driver. I was driving an Audi Q5 with 68K at time of order. It took more than 6 months but I've had the Maverick for a few weeks and have 2K miles on it now. While not a Luxury ride like the Audi, it is an easy transition. So far I have no regrets.

I wanted a Maverick but didn't have time to order one so ended up with a Ranger. Bought a dealer order at MSRP after it was built and waiting to ship. Actually love the truck, 26 mpg on the highway, hauls more, tows more, 6' bed is big enough to sleep in with a canopy $31,250 sticker isn't out of line with the Maverick.

If you happen to still have it, I found out (after I already had it repaired) that's it's essentially just bolting it in-line with the air intake. Literally 4 bolts and 1 electrical plug - lots of YouTube videos. Not sure if you have to take it to a dealer for calibration or something, but I mean it didn't seem that hard.
