Just purchased a certified '19 Outback due to giving my stepdaughter my old car who needs to drive for completing HS and enrollment in college. My wife and I went into this decision-making process with an understanding that we MIGHT need to keep this vehicle in case of any dealer shenanigans, or if I end up liking it better, or Ford drops the ball for '22 to '23 order conversions, etc.

If you've purchased an interim vehicle, what did you get? What was your criteria? How does your interim vehicle compare to the Maverick you ordered?

Bought a 2022 Kia Niro EV a week ago. My old car, 2010 Suzuki SX4, needed a ton of money put into it to keep it on the road and just couldn't justify that. My 12/21/21 order for a loaded Ecoboost XLT likely won't be coming for many, many months and something needed to happen. Once the Mav arrives my wife will take over the Kia to replace a high mileage 2013 Rav4. All in all, it wasn't a tough choice and I think everyone wins in my case.

Sept: Lost my CRV in hurricane IDA (actually swept away in it, stuck in a treetop for 4 hours, fun times...)
Next day: Borrowed my dad's "extra vehicle" to give me a chance to get a replacement.
Oct: Ordered a Maverick, should be about 2 months but could be as long as 3 months...
Jan: This is taking a really long time. You sure you're cool, dad? (Yep)
Mar: This is taking a really long time. You sure you're cool, dad? (Yep)
Apr: Catastrophic transmission failure in dad's vehicle. Awkward. We split the large bill.
I give the vehicle back immediately and never borrow anything from anyone again.
I quickly buy whatever used vehicle is available, using Mav down payment money.
Wife and I plan to trade in either this "new-used" vehicle or her current vehicle for Mav.
"New-used" vehicle decides to nope out on highway (bad throttle body, limp mode activated)
Used dealer honors repair
May: Rebuilt throttle body fails again. Bit the bullet to have proper dealer replace with new part on my own dime to ensure it won't happen again. Good so far.
Days ago: Wife's vehicle has catastrophic transmission failure. Seriously.

Moral of the story: A lot of life can happen when you are waiting 9 months for a vehicle to show up.

Hard decision:
A $25k invisible truck that's worth $35k-$39k
A "new-used" 1 owner car that's now a 2 owner car and won't help as a trade-in
A car needing a transmission before it's even fully paid off (one year, and one thousand miles beyond powertrain warranty)

I "might" have decisions to make soon. I'd actually ordered the Maverick to replace a Ford Mustang Mach-E because it ended up being too expensive for me, but since it took longer than I'd expected I've got a Hyundai Elantra N for the moment. Now, the biggest question is, which would I like to have, the fun car, or the practical truck?

last summer I ordered the mav on July 6th - they said eta was approx christmas :ROFLMAO:

august 12th I bought a vw jetta fully loaded -it gets 7.5L/100km (31mpg) i also did tint and undercoating and bought 5 year 180,000km warranty and would decide when the maverick arrived to sell the Jetta and move to the Maverick or keep the Jetta (knowing I'd be happy with the jetta anyways)

I am still on the fence - jetta uses premium fuel so I would save 25-30c/L right off the bat going back to 87
but I would have to purchase a tonneau cover for $600-1000 and then winter tires and rims again for another $1000-1200

are the extra expenses worth saving a few liters of gas? Will the 'I have a cool truck effect' wear off? - especially with all the issues that are popping up (dead hybrids, glowing CAT, dead/frozen radios) - I know the Jetta is very reliable and the build quality is there - the Maverick not so much

Bombing around in a 2003 Honda element while I wait for my maverick. I like the element so much I’m probably not going to even buy the Maverick once it comes in! Dealer gave me a below sticker price when I ordered it last October -may still buy it and hold it for a while- we will see.

For me, "I have a cool truck" effect is still going strong after 2 months of ownership and no signs of wearing off anytime soon.

I love the Element and I wish Honda would bring it back. The Element is one of two "You're a true Ashevillian" cars I see all the time. The first is the Kia Soul, which is pretty much the default car for any young couple or single trying to get started in very expensive Asheville (which can have very narrow neighborhood streets). And the other signature vehicle is the Element, which the outdoors folks absolutely love and cherish.

I keep gritting my teeth and waiting for my 3 Sep Maverick to get scheduled, but there is a fixed date this fall where I have to fish or cut bait (I need an AWD for my under-construction homesite). I'm eyeballing a Defender 90 in a light green, a Santa Cruz SEL AWD in Sage Gray (more like light green). Still prefer the Maverick, and I'll keep my order just to flip it if needed.

The two door Defender is the less likely, as those are being marked up by $20K or more around the USA. And it gets 18 MPG. Part of me really wants a two door Bronco, but that is unobtanium right now.

Over on the SC forums, there are a gazillion people who jettisoned their Maverick orders in frustration and seem very happy. Kind of hope I don't join them, but I might have to.

It's just a sucky time to be somebody needing to buy a new car.

August of last year I ordered a Maverick as a joke. I had a 2013 VW Jetta GLI Autobahn which I absolutely loved. Great acceleration, room for 5, a decent trunk space all the bells and whistles. Loved that car but it gave me nothing but problems. I had to replace a clutch, master cylinder, slave cylinder 3 times for the 3 years I've owned it(twice it was done under VW warranty). When I felt the clutch slipping again I had a decision to make. Autolenders came in clutch. They offered me $1000 less than what I paid for the car 3 years and 50,000 miles later. They only asked me for photos and basically bought my car without seeing it. A tow truck came in and dropped a check off. Sweet deal. That left me with no wheels tho. I was fortunate a friend of mine had a lawn decoration that he was trying to get rid of. Here enters the 2010 Chrysler Sebring aka the silver bullet. I gave it some love and attention and sold it for my buddy once the Maverick came in in the end of April. The Sebring received new breaks and tires and some cosmetic improvements. I couldn't fix the check engine light, but the car never failed to start in the six months I've had it. It was getting 24 mpg but for my 20 mile daily commute it worked.
Once I received the Maverick, it was like a new chapter in my life. I could finally go pick plywood and furniture for my project, without worring about how much gas I'm gonna burn. The Maverick is not my dream car, but it's the one I really need right now. Thank you @Ford Motor Company

My only concern was a sub $25k car with good gas mileage. I did end up putting an order in for a 2022 Corolla LE at my local dealer, obviously none were on the lot and people were purchasing them before they were being delivered. I asked about ordering one but they said they aren't accepting custom orders, you reserve whatever is in transit. However, they were able to acquire one in the exact color/trim/interior color I wanted within 2 weeks that was scheduled to arrive at the dealer the following month. They asked me to put a $500 deposit, I agreed, and then the guy said nevermind we just wanted to make sure you were serious. Originally, they did put a $2000 mark up in the form of paint protection and "ceramic coating" which I said I am not interested in and will only pay MSRP, it took a bit of haggling, but they agreed to do MSRP. Their "anti theft" is probably just a data plan for electronics that are already installed on the car, and their "ceramic coating" is probably just a porter that sprays on Turtle Wax Ceramic Spray to the paint before delivery.

About 15 days before my vehicle was scheduled to arrive, the 2023 Corolla was announced that the SE engine which is more powerful and gets better MPG will now come standard in the LE trim level. I obviously called the salesman and told him I'm going to hold off and wait for the 2023 model. He wasn't dissapointed at all nor did he give me a hard time, he probably found somebody willing to pay a markup in the meantime.

So Toyota is a better company when it comes to ordering/delivery times, they are constantly in production and the turnaround time is WAY faster than Ford. Also, you are most likely going to get a car that is made in Japan, not Mexico.

The Corolla also gets better HIGHWAY MPG than either the hybrid or EB Maverick. I do a lot of highway driving so the corolla is a better choice for me.

I ended up selling my Hybrid Maverick to a car buying company for a profit. I'm not confident in the quality of the Maverick as mine spent more time at the dealer than in my driveway in the 4 months I owned it.

That, combined with the quality of the interior plastic that can get scratched by a ghost, the thin soft paint that gets chipped easily, and the interior rattles were the straw that broke the camel's back. I don't know if they are going to fix this stuff for the 2023 models but I have a feeling the Mav is going to be one of the most problematic vehicles of all time if they don't get on the ball and work out these bugs. I would even be willing to pay $2000 extra for the Maverick if it didn't have these issues and if it had a real paint job.

I ordered a Hybrid Maverick in November 2021 a few weeks before the cut off. All was going well, but I had to purchase a vehicle in April after being in what seemed to be a minor accident in my '08 Camry Hybrid. Long story short, the damage was bad enough that it would require the engine be dropped to make the repair (over $10k to do the job), so the insurance company declared it a total loss and gave me a check for $9500. Needed to get something reliable fast, since I had no idea when my Maverick order was going to come. Found a decently priced RAV4 to use in the mean time, and went with that. Not a bad vehicle, and it has all the features I like and some I didn't really need. It does what I need, but I'm spoiled by hybrid fuel economy from owning one the last 6 years, and with current gas prices, switching to the Maverick as intended is almost a must, unless the dealer tries to kill me on pricing.

Just shy of two months after I buy the RAV4, this past Wednesday night, I get the call from my dealer, your Maverick will be on it's way to us soon. :poop:

I wanted a Maverick but didn't have time to order one so ended up with a Ranger. Bought a dealer order at MSRP after it was built and waiting to ship. Actually love the truck, 26 mpg on the highway, hauls more, tows more, 6' bed is big enough to sleep in with a canopy $31,250 sticker isn't out of line with the Maverick.

unless you want a RAV4 Prime…
4 dealers in my area. 2 said they would do a custom order at MSRP but current wait times are 2 years!!! Even for custom orders due to how Primes are allocated.
another dealership said 18 months and they’d do $5000 above msrp.
The last larger dealer out of state said $10,000 above msrp and an expected Decemeber arrival…”
