Not exactly related, but for those in Arkansas, what is the deal with chocolate gravy ?
Can't answer that, but I do like me some good turkey gravy! 😋

yes you should be concerned. Maybe they are being honest…but on this forum you will find case after case of similar scenarios as yours for 2022 that end up with a)No Maverick ordered by dealer b)no refund of deposit
I remember lots of posts where people were concerned about getting their deposit back.

But I honestly don't remember seeing any posts where someone didn't get their deposit back.

Were there really lots of people ("case after case") who got no truck and no refund?

I had looked up the Google reviews prior to contacting them and found nothing that concerned me. It seems they've been mentioned a few times in the forum too, and I don't see anything negative here either. One person actually mentioned them in a thread about "good guy" dealers not marking up MSRP.

In any case, if someone here does have prior experience with them, I'd be very interested to hear how it went for you.

I mean, no, but assuming they're smart they wouldn't drop my order to help a guy who just walked in out of the blue. Presumably they would honor the fact that I was in line before that guy and tell him to come back later, like @paneubert said, or perhaps they'd even just stop to get all the order information and paperwork made up, but then say they can't actually submit the order yet because they are still backed up with other orders.

In other words, they would submit my order first, and get to that guy a little later. What would they stand to gain by not processing the orders in the order they came in, especially when a deposit has been paid and they agreed to honor that? All they're doing at that point is risking their reputation for absolutely nothing.
Taking orders and processing orders are two different procedures. For the theoretical walk-in, take the order, assign it a number or identifying code which comes after already extant orders, and process them in assigned order.

Looks like this guy ordered from them

I would certainly wait until you can see what changes have been made for 2023 regarding content & options. A $500 deposit isn't that bad, that is the amount mine was & this may get you to the front of the line when official ordering begins.
Hahahaha - the FRONT of the line is the folks that didnt get their 2022 built.

OMG am from Texas panhandle am 79 my grand parents moved from homestead in NW Arkansas during California gold rush and made it as far as Amarillo. They fished the white river for a living. So couldn't afford the few cents for cocoa. But the wife's family worked for ranchers so the could eat better foods. So we got chocolate gravy from them. There are different recipes if course. Generally cocoa was added to the quarterly or semi annual wagon trip to town which could take 3 or more days. Powdered cocoa and sugar or molasses could be added to the gravy for special birthdays or Sunday breakfast biscuits. Snowball chocolate gravy very little flour in sugar syrup (home made karo) and lots of chocolate... great treat when it snowed. Today chocolate gravy is made as a special treat that cannot normally be purchased.

Well if someone walks in right as doors open, then says I will stay till you submit it. He will def get it in before you.

The point is you will have to do what you just did all over again before he submits it. There is no order guide or price’s out yet. So yes you will have to order it again, so to speak.
You think a guy who goes into a dealership and demands VIP treatment under threat of loitering would definitely get in before me? I have to say, that seems pretty farfetched to me. Do you have any evidence that this has ever happened even once?

Also, I know that the order is not finalized or even ready to be submitted. The deposit was paid simply to guarantee me a spot closer to the front of the line come ordering time. The salesman told me himself that all the specific features and pricing of the '23 Maverick are not public yet, but is it really that likely that the '23 will be so different from the '22 that I won't want it? Ford would be stupid if they did something like that, and more importantly they'd be losing money. I wanted the '22 for the same reasons as anyone else, and the same reasons people are now looking to get a '23.

I get what people here are saying overall, but I feel there is a lot of unhelpful exaggeration going on here. I fully admit this could have been a mistake, but at this point the risk of this decision seems well below what some people here are implying.

You think a guy walking in before you show up to is going to be refused, sales person wants as many orders as possible to get more commissions. Putting a deposit on a "preorder" is kinda like a fish baiting the hook for the fisherman.

Not saying you are being swindled, but seems like it is an opportunity for someone to be swindled.

I am taking preorders for ocean front property in AZ, we just have to wait for CA to fall off into the Pacific.

Why are the only two options either to serve every customer that walks in the store immediately or spit in his face? No, I don't think he's going to be refused, I think his order is simply going to be submitted in the order that it was received. So, if 10 people like me went to a particular dealer a month or two early and put down $500 to get on a waitlist, the guy who walks in at 8am on August 25th may be allowed to put in an order with the dealer right away so they still guarantee their sale, but the dealer will not actually send the order to Ford until the first 10 orders are already submitted, making the guy who just walked in number 11.

I'm not trying to be rude here, but I don't understand why this is such a difficult concept. Sure, they could just lie and not honor the agreement at all, but what do they stand to gain by doing that? If anything, they stand to lose me as a customer if I find out what they did and decide to take my business elsewhere.

I stopped by a dealer Friday and was looking at a 'used' one they had. Anyway when they asked if I was interested I said no that I was going to order in August when it opened up again. He said he didn't know for sure when ordering would open back up and asked his manager who said October. Granted....this was the 'used' side.... but it always kills me when they don't know and just make stuff up. And not knowing with such a 'hot' product seems even worse.

When I ordered my '22, I also was required to pay a $500 deposit and give a copy of my license. My dealer told me that this is standard for any new vehicle ordered, but even more so for a hot model like the MAV. If the deposit was not required the dealers might just put names on an order sheet and falsely order vehicles for dealer stock.
8 months later I was glad to have my cancelled check as a receipt showing what and when I had paid. You should also get a build sheet showing prices and options selected.
I was glad that my dealer (Leman Ford in Bloomington, IL) was on the up and up. No ADM, no required paint treatment, nothing extra unless I asked for it.
The deposit is money well spent in my opinion. Good luck!

Maybe he was thinking about when ordering will CLOSE again due to overwhelming demand. Haha. I doubt it. But if we want to be REALLY charitable with interpreting his guess.

The deposit was $500, which is more than I expected, but the dealer told me that a deposit is a requirement now, as apparently some dealers have been putting in fake customer orders to try to bolster their stock. He also told me I was the first one to call them about the 2023 Maverick and actually put a deposit down, so hopefully that means I'll be one of the first people to get the new Maverick.

For now I went with the XL with AWD and 4k tow package as my only two additions, but I am debating on whether I should call back and upgrade to the XLT with the FX4 package, or just add a handful of things like CP360 and the manual rear window.

I'm almost certain I'm going to get those 2 options added at least. Mainly I'm just considering what options will be impossible to add later on that I might regret not getting.

I'm on the fence about upgrading to the XLT, because while I sure would like to have all those extra features on day one, from comparing the differences and looking them up here, it seems like all the standard XLT features I really care about can be added after the fact with relative ease. It could definitely still be worth it just for the convenience and added resale value, but I'm not sure.

In any case, I hope this forum will be a good resource to help me make those decisions. Luckily I still have two months to change my mind.

Whatever I end up with, it will be a massive upgrade from my rickety little Aveo. I cannot wait to be done with this thing.
Welcome to the party/group of Maverick owners/ wannabes!
I hope your poor little Aveo holds out for awhile.
Good luck!

Well, you asked for feedback and you got it! Here's my two bits: At the very least I'd opt for the Copilot 360. It's a safety thing. Should be standard on all trims and perhaps it will be for the 2023 run. If you just want a work truck, go with the XL. If you want some of the other niceties, go with the XLT. In any case, good luck!
