I have no car, mine blew up
The deposit was $500, which is more than I expected, but the dealer told me that a deposit is a requirement now, as apparently some dealers have been putting in fake customer orders to try to bolster their stock. He also told me I was the first one to call them about the 2023 Maverick and actually put a deposit down, so hopefully that means I'll be one of the first people to get the new Maverick.

For now I went with the XL with AWD and 4k tow package as my only two additions, but I am debating on whether I should call back and upgrade to the XLT with the FX4 package, or just add a handful of things like CP360 and the manual rear window.

I'm almost certain I'm going to get those 2 options added at least. Mainly I'm just considering what options will be impossible to add later on that I might regret not getting.

I'm on the fence about upgrading to the XLT, because while I sure would like to have all those extra features on day one, from comparing the differences and looking them up here, it seems like all the standard XLT features I really care about can be added after the fact with relative ease. It could definitely still be worth it just for the convenience and added resale value, but I'm not sure.

In any case, I hope this forum will be a good resource to help me make those decisions. Luckily I still have two months to change my mind.

Whatever I end up with, it will be a massive upgrade from my rickety little Aveo. I cannot wait to be done with this thing.

Howzabout waiting until the '23 order guides are released to see what options are available, changed or have been eighty-sixed?

Dunno if a change has been made by Ford, now requiring deposits. Their system for '22s already had the backstop of requiring a driver's license or other valid proof of personage to satisfy COVP strictures. But doubtless the dealer will enjoy collecting an extra few months' interest on pre-order date deposits.

I would certainly wait until you can see what changes have been made for 2023 regarding content & options. A $500 deposit isn't that bad, that is the amount mine was & this may get you to the front of the line when official ordering begins.

HIGHLY doubt this is accurate, but who knows what Ford is up to. Stranger things have happened.

I posted in a different thread that my limited research into Seattle area dealers had 2 dealerships happy to "add me to their list" with no deposit, and one who asked for a $100 totally refundable deposit. So at the very least "FORD" isn't dictating that the deposit be $500, if a deposit is actually mandatory at all.

Edit to add: Some folks on here have commented that THEY offered to put down a deposit and their dealer refused. So that also puts a vote in the "no deposit needed" category. But we all know that all dealers are not created equal when it comes to knowledge of the process. Speaking of knowledgeable dealers.....

@fordvideoguy , maybe this topic is another candidate for the "Is it True" segment of an upcoming stream?

Place in line is highly dependent on when the dealer completes the COVP/ROVP process and order is approved by Ford.

Some dealers do so with alacrity, some take a few days to jump through the same hoops, some (as has been documented by others here) don't get around to it until a month or more later.

Why would you want to consult with a Merriam?? That is just one species of the North American turkey, right??? Not sure it would be very productive to consult with a turkey, although now that I think about it, I probably have several times in the past. 🙂

Nah, I'm not letting a dealer sit with my $$$$ and no guarantees it is even going to make a difference in the end with anything other than their say so. I wanna know first and foremost what the new pricing is going to be, financing, new options, deleted options and changes in packages before I order.

The good news is you have until August to decide what options to go with
Hopefully it’s a refundable deposit

OP: You may find yourself in the predicament as many past 2022 buyers (perspective buyers) have been. They put deposits on trucks that the dealer hoped to get allocated. Nearly 100% sold have been on-line pre-orders. There is no reason at all to put a deposit down on a truck that can not be ordered right now and has no guarantee of being ordered even with a $500 deposit.

A lot of people on this forum were bamboozled by dumb dealers who are way behind the times.

Ford is moving to an on-line order world and you should too.

They also did ask me for a driver's license.

Do we know when do those order guides come out? As far as waiting goes, the sales rep told me he'd be in touch once the full details come out so that I could change the options if necessary. So, based on what he told me, the deposit was basically just to get on the waitlist, and he asked me about what '22 options I liked just to get an idea of what I'm looking for. He did say the options could be different on the '23 and that he'd call me at a later date to go over the changes.
Hope your deposit was "Refundable"! Several 2022 orders weren't listed/signed as refundable and the orderer was Highly Pissed when they couldn't get back their Large Deposit!
I asked if it was refundable if I change my mind and the sales rep confirmed it was. The only thing is there is nothing on the receipt specifically denoting that it's a refundable deposit. Should I be worried that the guy lied to me?

yes you should be concerned. Maybe they are being honest…but on this forum you will find case after case of similar scenarios as yours for 2022 that end up with a)No Maverick ordered by dealer b)no refund of deposit

Unless I have a signed buyers order guaranteeing a price, options, etc. from dealer (signed by dealer and myself) - not putting anything down. My guess - purely a guess - is you are being played by a dealer.
