Will take some time getting used too. Our electric BMW has the I/drive dial system. So of course when I drove a Maverick for the first time I was flipping the dial like it was controlling infotainment functions - lol

The dial is pretty cool. Wasn’t sure if I was going to like it but adapted quickly and now enjoy it.

Like was mentioned earlier, you hardly ever use it. At least not as much as a manual transmission stick shift.

And for those complaining about not having a place to rest your hand…. Two hands on the wheel people. Ten and Two. Let’s drive safe out there.
Agree, two hands on the wheel, but It is recommended to place your hands at 3 and 9 o'clock positions. This avoids your forearms coming into contact upon deployment of the airbag. 12 o'clock hand position is dangerous. If the airbag deploys your arm might get broken or your hand might hit you in the face.

With everyone discussing the good and bad about the dial shifter, what did people say when the automatic transmission came out?

I said, "I'm not paying extra for that option that isn't reliable, gives worse MPG, can't service it myself and SO happy cars & trucks still come standard with manual transmissions" YMMV

My brother has never had a vehicle that wasn’t a manual transmission. He says an automatic isn’t driving, it is sitting. Nobody hates new technology more than me, but even I wouldn’t drive a manual.By the way, when my Maverick finally arrives, anybody want to buy my video screen ?

Theres been a few times I've reached for something while driving and accidentally shift into Neutral. A bit scary when it happens at highway speeds and the engine just revs. A bit too sensitive if you ask me. I miss having a console shifter.

I disagree with the implication that a dial shifter is the only "modern" alternative that saves space, etc. Steering wheel buttons, stalks that twist, etc. would accomplish the same thing and be in a more convenient location. And even if the shifter is on the console, it could move linearly and still be low profile. I don't like having to finesse a small dial with my fingers. (Maybe if I had the hands of a little kid.)

This is from an 8-year old car. I'm sure a more modern version could be made with an even lower profile.

You all won't like the dial shifter when your kid or dog accidentally brushes it and it changes gears. Happened to me last week. It's in a terrible spot. It should be on the dash or something.

I have an XLT, and the dial shifter is close to the same size as the fan control switch. More than once I have tried to shift from drive to reverse, or back again, and changed the fan speed instead. Yes, I know I should look. But it’s a shock when you think you’re in reverse and the truck goes forward.
One way for Ford to address this would be to make the twisting force required to change gears much higher than the effort required to change the fan speed. Some kind of tactile feedback is needed.
I love the truck overall but this is one thing I think should be addressed.
