Even my SmartCar has a hand shifter...I will miss that on the Maverick. Welcome to the new world I guess. Sigh. My Alfa is a true stick shifter. When did driving a car get so mindless?

Isn’t that the opposite of “innovation?” Going back to the way things were?

I have not had a dial shift but I’m looking forward to it. It looks low and out of the way. Which is nice, since my dog has happily knocked my traditional shifter out of gear in my current vehicle.
it is an innovation because it allow to add safety feature like shifting automaticaly to park if you open a door while moving (might be to neutral if going too fast, i never checked) might be annoying if you try to open a door to back up a trailer but a nice feature when you have kids... before my maverick i was driving a ram 1500, you'll get used to it

I don't have a truck yet, but with a stick, you have to engage the 'interlock' paddle to change gears. I'm hoping a similar mechanism is in place with the dial shifter and that the gear indicator is still co-located on the dash.

Other than that, I think I can get used to it
I traded in my F150 and took delivery on 3/4/22 and I am already used to - and like - the "dial" feature.

I do like it, didn't think I would. Only problem I have is it's so easy to shift from reverse to drive (or Vis versa) while still moving slightly.

The only thing Ive read that the maverick has is no positive stop once you dial it past drive. Thats different than our 2020 Escape with the dial shifter....it does have a positive feel stop past that point. But while strange at first you get used to the dial vs a normal shifter quickly. I don't mind it.

’20 Escape here as well. My ‘17 has same dial. Don’t know why got rid of the positive stop. We‘ll see when I get my Mav how it goes.

Better than the digi-shifters in some other makes. I'm neutral on it.

Anyone like the dial shifter?

i would like to ask all, does anyone like the dial shifter. i personally do not like it. so I am on a mission to see if there is a way to put a hand held shift like an f150. does anyone agree. thank you
Yes I LOVE it.

Took all of about a week to get used to it and not reach for where the shifter was on my previous Honda Fit and now it is just second nature to me.

I started driving 51 years ago with "3 on the Tree", went to "four on the floor" finally had to go to an automatic (manual tranys are hard to come by these days.) The relearning of muscle memory of each change took about a year. The hardest part was learning not to try to push on a clutch that's not there anymore. So, I expect that at some point I will stop trying to grab the shifter and just dial it in. That said, the only non-sentient objects that I "hate" are politicians.

I rather like it, I found that I adjusted to it very quickly. The other work trucks I use have the steering wheel mounted stalks although sometimes those don't go into gear correctly.

The dial is pretty cool. Wasn’t sure if I was going to like it but adapted quickly and now enjoy it.

Like was mentioned earlier, you hardly ever use it. At least not as much as a manual transmission stick shift.

And for those complaining about not having a place to rest your hand…. Two hands on the wheel people. Ten and Two. Let’s drive safe out there.
