Unlike the Honda Ridgeline, the Santa Cruz tailgate opens in a traditional tailgate down position, meaning - to access the bed trunk you may have to lean over the tailgate and stretch a bit - a little awkward with my beer belly getting in the way. Maybe not an issue for you. ;-)The Cruz has a trunk under the bed.
I resemble that remark!Unlike the Honda Ridgeline, the Santa Cruz tailgate opens in a traditional tailgate down position, meaning - to access the bed trunk you may have to lean over the tailgate and stretch a bit - a little awkward with my beer belly getting in the way. The santa cruz doesn't even have a hybrid. It is 21 city, the mav is twice that. They are not even in same class afaic. The SC SE with AWD, and activity pakage (retractible tonneau, technology, and bed add-ins similar to Lux) is about $200 more than an XLT Lux 4k hard tonneau Mav. I think these two are roughly equivalent.
At this price point, it would be a tough decision. The Maverick will probably give you better performance, but the Santa Cruz has the better safety features, technology, and warranty. In terns of bring an urban pickup, I figure both yield similar utility.
This is all speculation as I've seen/driven neither, and the Santa Cruz is big mystery in terms of specifics.

You could buy a ford ranger 4x4 crew cab for $33k and get the same mpg.I’m not interested in a hybrid. When you compare like for like they are very much alike but I think the SC has more advantages for a slight increase in cost. They are very much in the same class.
Watched the review, go to 23:00 in for his conclusion.THIS is Doug Demuro's review
Yeah. Let's see if he has a different take on the Maverick when he gets to do a full review.Watched the review, go to 23:00 in for his conclusion.
Game over.
DISMAL FAILUREYeah. Let's see if he has a different take on the Maverick when he gets to do a full review.
DISMAL FAILUREI saw that. I think he’s kind of a goof so his opinion means nothing to me. His opinion is entirely based on his bias against the SC. There are lots of videos from folks extolling the virtues of the SC. It is also interesting to see that there are actual driver’s reviews of the SC. There are none of the Maverick. Please know i am not bashing the Maverick. I’m just researching all I can about my options. I may very well wind up with the Maverick but I’m finding the SC interesting and maybe intriguing.
