The Cruz has a trunk under the bed.
Unlike the Honda Ridgeline, the Santa Cruz tailgate opens in a traditional tailgate down position, meaning - to access the bed trunk you may have to lean over the tailgate and stretch a bit - a little awkward with my beer belly getting in the way. Maybe not an issue for you. ;-)

I resemble that remark!

The SC SE with AWD, and activity pakage (retractible tonneau, technology, and bed add-ins similar to Lux) is about $200 more than an XLT Lux 4k hard tonneau Mav. I think these two are roughly equivalent.

At this price point, it would be a tough decision. The Maverick will probably give you better performance, but the Santa Cruz has the better safety features, technology, and warranty. In terns of bring an urban pickup, I figure both yield similar utility.

This is all speculation as I've seen/driven neither, and the Santa Cruz is big mystery in terms of specifics.

The santa cruz doesn't even have a hybrid. It is 21 city, the mav is twice that. They are not even in same class afaic.

I’m not interested in a hybrid. When you compare like for like they are very much alike but I think the SC has more advantages for a slight increase in cost. They are very much in the same class.

SEL there is the naturally aspirated motor so you're down 60 hp to the EcoBoost. Likely at the 3500 lb towing figure and working harder to do it.

I’m looking at the Limited which has a 3.5 turbo charged engine. I’m comparing it to a fully loaded Lariat with the 2.0 Ecoboost. The SC has a slight edge in horsepower and torque over the Ecoboost as well as 1,000 #s of increased towing capacity. The SC so equipped is only a few hundred more than a fully optioned Lariat. I’d be happy with either so the first one to arrive wins.

You could buy a ford ranger 4x4 crew cab for $33k and get the same mpg.

Not apples to apples comparison. I don’t want a big truck. Also getting a fully equipped Ranger will be a lot more than $33K. If mileage was the biggest consideration I’d have ordered a hybrid rather than a Lariat. The Ranger is NOT in the same class as Maverick or SC. I’ve had a last generation Ranger as well as an F250. All great vehicles for what I needed at the time. What I need now is something that fits well into my garage, can make a dump run or haul something home from Home Depot and handle well for my annual cross country trip. If it can tow a smaller boat, that is a plus. I’m old so I want comfort so I’m not into lesser trims. I’m figuring on spending around $41,000 for either. The Hyundai is slightly more by a hundred or so but the delivery charge is about $400 less at this trim level.

Watched the review, go to 23:00 in for his conclusion.

Game over.
Yeah. Let's see if he has a different take on the Maverick when he gets to do a full review.

I could never get past the styling on the Santa Tucson. She's not going to age well either, I promise you.

I saw that. I think he’s kind of a goof so his opinion means nothing to me. His opinion is entirely based on his bias against the SC. There are lots of videos from folks extolling the virtues of the SC. It is also interesting to see that there are actual driver’s reviews of the SC. There are none of the Maverick. Please know i am not bashing the Maverick. I’m just researching all I can about my options. I may very well wind up with the Maverick but I’m finding the SC interesting and maybe intriguing.
