You are never going to see the true mpg's unless you have FORD adjust your tire revs in the computer. You can guess all you want but at the end of the day that's all you are doing, guessing.

Have you tried checking your mileage the old fashion way? Pencil and paper? I've found that stupid little MPG on the dash isn't worth a hoot for actual MPG. Just get a small pad and keep it in your little cubby. Every time you get fuel, write down the miles and gallons.

I use the Fuelly app on my iPhone (both wife and I share a free account). each time we get fueled up we go into the app and input the miles, gallons, price per gallon. The app will calculate total price and tell you the real MPG when you hit save. That is true MPG instead of average based on stop and go etc. You can see my Fuelly MPG in my info below.

Don't have a Maverick. I got tired of being screwed around by Ford and canceled my order. I am SOOO GLAD I did. I ordered in mid-July and when I canceled around Christmas I still didn't have a build date. I was right there with @Delzona getting one. He hung on and I bailed.
I downloaded the Fuelly app I just keep forgetting to use the darn thing! I figured I would use on my bikes and Maverick.

Ive had this truck 4 months. I don't drive a lot and I currently have about 2k miles on the odometer.

AWD, 4k tow running 245 65 17s and 1 inch front level lift. K&N drop in filter, no other mods. 89 octane gas used every time. Standard drive mode. I use it for personal transport and dont haul any heavy loads. Tire PSI set to 35.

I live in NW Indiana and do mixed driving of hwy and streets. I drive normally and I'm not a leadfoot. I don't use remote start or sit in traffic. I am getting absolute horseshit mileage. I have not seen 20mpg. I understand the figure may be off a tad with the slightly different tire size but other people with the same truck and mods are claiming 30mpg. WTF gives already? I bought a small truck to save on gas mileage. My V6 equinox was a gas pig and got better mileage. Its one of the reasons I dumped it. With the the gas $ now going through the moon its starting to bother me. I have the money but I didn't buy a "baby truck" to piss money away on gas. I bought this truck to get a few more mpg than the equinox and I was expecting to get at least 22mpg. I understand going up a size in tires may kill 1-2 mpg but come on now. Enough with this BS already. Im tired of the.excuses. Im seeing 17-18mpg tops. Less than 280 miles per tank. I am always putting gas in this truck. I've reset all settings twice to start from scratch to see if that helped and it has not.

Anybody have any ideas what could be going on? I cant be getting 10-12 less than other members with the same truck. Winter gas blend, altitude, driving style/ BS already. 10-11 mpg less than others is NOT normal. Something is wrong here and I'm getting pissed. The biggest reason people buy small trucks to save on gas.

First Get rid of the K&N filter it gives more HP and performance but robs you of mpg, 2nd don't be a Lead Foot, 3rd drive a little slower. All of the above may help you with improving your MPG!

This is what I am getting. Eco fx4 4k Lariat Lux all original. using only 87 60% hwy, 10 city 30 % nasty dirt roads. Hand calc's usually yield 4-5-6% less than the computer. But this is over 3468 miles. And most of my trips gain over 1,000 in elevation, of course it's down hill back. I would guess yours can be better, but those tires hurt.

it's pretty simple to figure out what mpg each individual will get with a different vehicle as long as you have a previous vehicle baseline to work from. (usage patterns/drivers being constant)

1----I have no idea how bad your individual mod's affect mileage. I do know that since the manufacturers have been releasing separate mileage figures for different trim levels of the same vehicle, upgraded tires/wheels seem to cause a shocking difference in the MPG. note. unless you've already corrected the speedo, add 1 mpg to your mileage from the increased tire diam.
2---personally, I don't readily assume individual drivers reports are accurate. ''others have lift kits/bigger wheels and tires, and get xxxmpg " does not mean that they're posting accurate info. but, that's just me. caveat emptor.
3---lift kits will affect aero. a ram trx with a lift kit will have a much smaller mpg impact than a civic, for example. if your usage is mostly city/low speeds, disregard.
4---if you had a previous vehicle, with the same driving/usage patterns, very easy to figure out if there's something mechanically wrong with your truck. what did you drive, model/year/engine/trans.? what mpg did you get with it? how does that compare to it's official epa mpg? then take your mavericks applicable epa mpg and adjust the percentages up/down accordingly.

Please update with some info, I'm genuinely curious how this unfolds. personally, I'm going with ''something actually wrong with truck'' as I did a tank where I ''drove it like I stole it'' (within reason) and still got 22 mpg. my lifetime mpg is at 27 after almost 9000 miles.

The higher gear ratio is somewhat negated by the taller tires. People with the 4k tow and AWD are claiming 25+mpg here. Same setup. Going up one tire size and a 1 inch front lift does not take away 5-6 mpg.

Axle ratio with the slightly taller tires is now 3.68 according to the calculator.

I don't drive this truck much as I have another car. Its not really about making short trips.
And I'm not a leadfoot, but I drive briskly from time to time. Normal drive mode only.

Vehicle did get an alignment when the lift was completed and it did need it.

Thank you to anyone who actually answered and engaged positively. I will replace the K&N but I doubt it will make a difference. I never expected to get an average of 30mpg, I expected 21-22. Others with the same truck and mods are getting 25mpg+

Thanks also for the lectures from all the others who can't read the original post and who replied just to grandstand.
The EPA's 'city' rating is a 30 minute trip, averaging 21mph, with something like 12-15 stops.

You've mentioned you don't drive your truck a lot, and mostly around town with a 'combination' of city highway, but that isn't really how it works.

I noted that your miles/time is about 22mph. That puts you squarely in the city driving category in terms of average mph speed. The next questions are, how long (time and distance) is your average trip. If they are all around town, to the grocery store and errands mostly, I'm guessing they are 5-10 miles total on average, and maybe 10-15 minutes per drive.

Every short trip is a cold engine trip, which absolutely kills MPG. Add to that you're in a colder climate (I'm in MN, we've been above zero maybe half the time since december...this has been a COLD one!). Your average speed, short trips and cold engine are getting you to where you are at.

It will get better with summer gas and temps. My truck is garaged, my trips are probably around 10-15 miles on average (stores are about 7 miles away minimum) - enough for the truck to get warmed up to where I'm able to sustain 22-24mpg in the MN cold (prior to december I was 26/27 typically). Last tank jumped to 27mpg, and the current one (with a longer drive of 150 miles included), is showing 29.5 on the gauge (will probably be around 28). All that with Buschur's intake installed.

The K&N filter is NOT the issue here. Cold temps, winter gas, short trips and low average mph are getting you to where you are at. The upgraded Tires are definitely having a negative impact as well - I'd guess you'd be seeing 20mpg with stock.

Just a note that you can setup fuelly to text your data as well - just have to text MPG (miles, price, gallons), super simple. You can also add notes if you want after the 'mpg' details. I typically text something like this:

350 3.399 14 gauge reads 25mpg and 26.1 overall (I'm tracking my current tank gauge as well as my long-term trip b gauge)

You can see my notes in my fuelly link too!

100% agreed! If someone has a fuelly up and running, that I know can be trusted - posting the odometer and saying I'm getting about XXmpg is way too far from a calculated analysis for me.

You're also right about usage patterns. I know that I can drive a car in ways to beat the EPA ratings consistently (I used to hypermile in a toyota yaris to get 45+mpg...in retrospect not that fun, and some of the things I did were dangerous...turning the engine off at speed and coasting down long hills for example - it was a stick).

I don't drive that way anymore, and want to have some fun. I give it half the time from stops, but at speed I control my accelerations, and feel that I attain a good balance and enjoy my driving - fun accelerating, trying to keep mpgs up when at speed - 2 different games to play!

Now, if you are coming from a truck/SUV that got 15mpg, never tracked it because it was garbage but decided to jump on a more fuel efficient truck because the epa sticker says 29mpg, well...you should expect to attain that automatically! If you don't truly know what your past vehicle mpg performance was in relation to its epa estimate, you also can't expect to attain the epa ratings on a current vehicle! That isn't to say that vehicles don't have problems, but your current results can only be measured against past performance - without knowing that past performance, well, you get what you get 🤷‍♂️

Some posters here need to lay off the "Its the Big Wheels and Lift Kit tsk tsk" crap.

The wheels are POINT .5" taller and less than .4" wider than the stock Falkens. And its a ONE Inch Freaking front spacer lift.

If an app isn't your thing it only takes a couple minutes to set up a Google Drive Form/Spreadsheet. Track exactly the data you want and analyze it any way you like

Well, if the OP refuses to take it in to the dealer to see if something's wrong but instead whines about it in multiple threads for months then the others in this forum are more than welcome to discuss their opinions.

I have an AWD 2.0 no tow pkg running 245/70r17, 1" level and stock air filter, running 91 octane and 35 psi, I'm in the same boat when driving the way I normally do. However if I keep my Eco doesn't seem to make much difference in town so I don't bother with it until I'm on the freeway where I've been getting around 28.

Sorry for getting blasted. Still think your have the sharpest Maverick pictured on this site.

But I'd do what someone else suggested, get back to OEM with the easy stuff. Put back OEM air filter, get Fuelly or just manually check MPG and record the difference in MPG over 200, 300 miles, etc, etc until you find the cause. I'd be suspicious of suspension changes.

Not intended as a rub in, but my Hybrid is averaging 48 MPG after 1,800+ miles, high of 55.
