Maybe calculate at the pump to see if computer is accurate.
Take claims of 30+mpg with a grain of salt. Some on here have said they average 23-26mpg with ecoboost without mods, which is still within epa testing. My mom’s bronco sport badlands with 2.0 averages 22-24mpg consistently. (the sales manager who has the same model claimed he gets 30mpg all the time. She never had seen those numbers in real calculation)
So you are definitely below the posted numbers, but maybe it is just the computer. Have you reset all stats on trip calculator?

(and I’m well aware a million people on here will quote this post and tell me they get 35mpg all the time in their ecoboost. Ram forum guys always over-exaggerated mpg numbers going off computer as well.)
I am certainly not getting 35 mpg in my Eco.. but I have been running exclusively Sports mode in my Mav (stock everything) and am currently averaging 23-24 mpg with city/highway mix. I truly do wonder if OP's mods affect gas mileage THAT much.

Seeing posts like this one has me really happy that I went with the Hybrid instead of the EcoBoost especially now that gas prices here in Coppell (DFW) are at $3.60 a gallon for regular 87 gas.

Most of my driving is in the city (where I average 42+ MPG) but even on the highway at 78 MPH I am getting 34 MPG. Overall I am averaging 40.65 MPG over the first 678 miles.

I am currently at 783 miles on the OD and still have 7/8 of a tank left.

Something seems off to me unless it’s your driving or filter. I was averaging 27 hwy and maybe 22 city with the same tire size and a 2” lift. I had just over 23 combined on the dash with 90% city driving last month. I just averaged almost 22 mpg on a 1000+ mile road trip with hwy/city/trail driving loaded up with gear, a bed rack, and a rooftop tent sitting 10” above my cab. 4K, AWD, FX4 Lariat. Weird.

Ive had this truck 4 months. I don't drive a lot and I currently have about 2k miles on the odometer.

AWD, 4k tow running 245 65 17s and 1 inch front level lift. K&N drop in filter, no other mods. 89 octane gas used every time. Standard drive mode. I use it for personal transport and dont haul any heavy loads. Tire PSI set to 35.

I live in NW Indiana and do mixed driving of hwy and streets. I drive normally and I'm not a leadfoot. I don't use remote start or sit in traffic. I am getting absolute horseshit mileage. I have not seen 20mpg. I understand the figure may be off a tad with the slightly different tire size but other people with the same truck and mods are claiming 30mpg. WTF gives already? I bought a small truck to save on gas mileage. My V6 equinox was a gas pig and got better mileage. Its one of the reasons I dumped it. With the the gas $ now going through the moon its starting to bother me. I have the money but I didn't buy a "baby truck" to piss money away on gas. I bought this truck to get a few more mpg than the equinox and I was expecting to get at least 22mpg. I understand going up a size in tires may kill 1-2 mpg but come on now. Enough with this BS already. Im tired of the.excuses. Im seeing 17-18mpg tops. Less than 280 miles per tank. I am always putting gas in this truck. I've reset all settings twice to start from scratch to see if that helped and it has not.

Anybody have any ideas what could be going on? I cant be getting 10-12 less than other members with the same truck. Winter gas blend, altitude, driving style/ BS already. 10-11 mpg less than others is NOT normal. Something is wrong here and I'm getting pissed. The biggest reason people buy small trucks to save on gas.

Can’t wait to get near 50 mpg with my Maverick hybrid.

You're also in a moderate climate. He's in the Midwest.

Probably differences in trip times. Longer warmed up drives.
Yes, I know it’s certainly not comparing apples to apples. But the guy is getting 17-18 combined with no heavy loads and (according to him) normal driving habits. I got 22 combined in below freezing temps, high elevation, a full bed plus extra ~170lb on the rack, and 10” of tent drag on the hwy at 75-80 mph.

Just providing another data point here. What he’s seeing is weird compared to my experience. I could maybe believe it if he was doing mostly city.

Certainly. There were winter months old get low 20s in my corrola because I have to do short cold trips. In could get double that on a summer weekend road trip. Small context-specific samples can vary a ton.

I cant buy non-ethanol gas here. Anywhere. I do buy it in WI and FL. I miss Rec90 in FL. We fill out boat with it. I do always buy gas from the same two Citgo stations. Maybe I will try another brand for shits and giggles.
Have you tried checking your mileage the old fashion way? Pencil and paper? I've found that stupid little MPG on the dash isn't worth a hoot for actual MPG. Just get a small pad and keep it in your little cubby. Every time you get fuel, write down the miles and gallons.

I use the Fuelly app on my iPhone (both wife and I share a free account). each time we get fueled up we go into the app and input the miles, gallons, price per gallon. The app will calculate total price and tell you the real MPG when you hit save. That is true MPG instead of average based on stop and go etc. You can see my Fuelly MPG in my info below.

Don't have a Maverick. I got tired of being screwed around by Ford and canceled my order. I am SOOO GLAD I did. I ordered in mid-July and when I canceled around Christmas I still didn't have a build date. I was right there with @Delzona getting one. He hung on and I bailed.

Yeah, I forgot about the KN. Horrible idea. Put the paper filter back in.
I used to run KN in everything for a simple reason better filtration. Until I started looking at tests and by far the worst for filtration was KN, by a large margin. I'm not sure if getting more air is better or worse for economy. As far as tires go I had a subaru outback and kept getting flats so I switched to oversized wildpeaks, instant 12 percent fuel economy drop. No flats but worse economy.

Guys you are being too hard on the OP. Sure he’s got some mods but like about 20 other posts, people with the same mods are still getting much better mileage than him.

And so just to add my .02–My Mav gets HORRIBLE mileage as well. I just rolled over 1000 miles on it, Lariat AWD FX4 4K, only mods are mudflaps, engine cover, roll up tonneau.
I have a 10 mile commute, mixed hwy and city, and my average on my dash is around 19.6. Trip 2 odometer was reset with 16 miles on the truck and it’s overall average is 19.2. On a recent fill up, I actually hand calc’d it at 17.5!!!! I’ve been driving like a grandma as well. I just took a little roadtrip on Thursday, 100 miles round trip, cruise set on 71 on the highway on the way down and cruise set on 79 on the interstate on the way back, I reset my trip odometer before, and the mileage showed 22.8! No reason that shouldn’t have been like at least 26-27, Nebraska is flat.
I have the instant mileage screen on the dash on all the time and it never goes over about 25mpg even when cruising at 60mph.

So what are your ideas for me? Remove my engine cover because it’s keeping my engine too hot? My mudflaps causing too much drag?

The only thing I will say that it has been really cold here. I am going to wait a couple weeks and keep checking it. If it doesn’t improve this spring, its going into Ford. I traded in a 2014 Dodge Ram Crew cab with a 5.7L Hemi and it averaged almost 18mpg in the same commuting sitution. One of the main reasons I got this truck was for the mileage. Hell, i was talking to my neighbor and he has ‘20 GMC Sierra and he’s averaging 22!!

I‘ve read enough of these posts on this site that I truly believe that there are some Mav’s that have some sort of problem that is reducing the gas mileage. I’m wondering if Ford can update the ECU or maybe they will add an ECO mode, as mine doesn’t have it. Or maybe I will have to do a PiggyBack so I can pick the eco program. Or maybe I will just sell the damn thing for $5k more than i paid for it and go back to a full size truck that will actually get better mileage than my Mav!!

Have you done a hand calculation on your gas usage to see if the gauge is off? Also if you wanted the better gas mileage you shouldn't be adding lifters and larger tires which drop MPG. Not only that but the 4K tow package comes with a higher gear ratio for the drive axle which is already less economical from a fuel stand point than an non 4K tow package. If you look at the bar code sticker in the front door jam you'll see a section on it called Axle. There are 3 possible values 38, 36 and 29. the 4K packages will be 38 or a 3.81 axle ratio. The others, 2.91 and 3.63 are for non 4K tow builds. If that lifter and tires are a big part of the problem when you use eco mode you'll gain back about 5 MPG. In that case if you don't remove your mods a custom tune is in order to gain back some of that lost MPG.

That K & N filter may also be part of the problem. Put your stock air filter back in right before your next fill up and see if that helps any.

The higher gear ratio is somewhat negated by the taller tires. People with the 4k tow and AWD are claiming 25+mpg here. Same setup. Going up one tire size and a 1 inch front lift does not take away 5-6 mpg.

Axle ratio with the slightly taller tires is now 3.68 according to the calculator.

I don't drive this truck much as I have another car. Its not really about making short trips.
And I'm not a leadfoot, but I drive briskly from time to time. Normal drive mode only.

Vehicle did get an alignment when the lift was completed and it did need it.

Thank you to anyone who actually answered and engaged positively. I will replace the K&N but I doubt it will make a difference. I never expected to get an average of 30mpg, I expected 21-22. Others with the same truck and mods are getting 25mpg+

Thanks also for the lectures from all the others who can't read the original post and who replied just to grandstand.
