I test drove a Santa Cruz last month and considered purchasing one. The main reasons I didn't:
I couldn't justify the price tag for the trim with options I wanted. If I wanted a 40K truck, I'd get a Ranger or something larger.
I didn't like the visibility behind or on the right
Cupholders on rear doors are tiny and not suited for kids drinks. No cupholders in the rear center to compensate for this either.

I opted for a Hybrid Tuscon at the same price point.

There's actually a lot on the Limited that gets removed from the Tucson that its based on, I'm not sure why.

Memory seats, rear arm rest (with cuholders), and remote park assist are just a few things I can think of that are lacking. Hopefully they add some of that back soon, as particularly the remote park assist is a really cool feature IMO. You jump out of your car in front of the garage, unload your passengers and groceries and what not, and then just use the keyfob to have the vehicle park itself in the garage. Especially helpful for narrow garages where you risk hitting the car next to you opening the door wide.

Quality control is quality control. Doesn't matter where they're built. The Escape is built in Mexico and that vehicle is as good as any car built in America.
No...

Bronco Sport and Maverick are built in Hermosillo, which used to build Fusions.

Mustang Mach-E is built in Cuatitlan, which used to build Fiestas.

Louisville Assembly in Kentucky builds Escapes and Corsairs.

Just knowing Hyundai is a sister company to KIA is enough to stop me!! I do not drive imports and will gladly wait patiently for my Ford to be built. Besides it’s an ugly vehicle!! 🤢🤢

I'm all for playing devil's advocate, but JD Powers is :poop: IMO. Remember when GM was bragging that every one of their vehicles in their lineup were on JD Powers most reliable list, as it that just doesn't make it that much more obvious that they paid JD Powers, lol! Subaru and Honda below industry average reliability and way below Chevy and Mini? Minis are notoriously problematic.

I still love the Maverick no matter what Hyundai tries to pull. Just like many have said on here, the Maverick looks like a traditional truck, which is key. The Hyundai is very controversial looking, especially the front fascia. To me, it looks like a creepy joker-face. The side profile and rear end are nice but the deal-breaker is the front and the absurd price. The equivalent of my Maverick Lariat for the Santa Cruz would be the Limited that costs over $40,000! And when I test drove one exactly like it, the dealer had a $7,000 markup that brought the price to a whopping $52,000!!! No way Jose! It did drive really well, I will give it that. But, I can't imagine the Maverick driving that much differently. According to many of the reviews, people say the same thing: they love the driving experience. Very quiet, very sporty, peppy, handles well, and that goes for both the Hybrid and Ecoboost. Also, in regards to the "Blind-Spot View Monitor", Ford still has a similar feature when you order the Ford CoPilot360 package. It does come with Blind-Spot Monitoring. I guess Hyundai jabbed at them because it's not standard, but still. It's not like it doesn't have that feature at all. Sorry Hyundai, you still haven't convinced me.

Buick is so high on the list because the elderly people who typically own them don't drive more than 50 miles a week.

I went ahead and purchased the SC Limited in Phantom black - I really, really like this car-truck-suv!! BUT, I have not yet been inside and driven a Maverick; still my preference at this time- but I could not continue to wait. I still have my Mav on order and may keep both.

Plus side of the SC Limited: Interior is really nice! The tech in this vehicle is very, very nice! This tech issue / matter will be a strong point of my comparison when I get the fully loaded Mav 1st Ed! The ride is as nice if not nicer than my prior Audi Q5 or Mazda CX 5 - both were 2016 models. What the SC really lacks is the interior cup holders and extra storage space - this drives me crazy! And I am the ONLY ONE in the vehicle 99% of the time! OMG I have been sold on something that is NOT EVEN that important to my daily drive!

The shifter is nice to have - according to the many comments in this site - we all have grown to appreciate the tactile feel and placement of a center console shifter. I am here to tell you that is true (alas I have not yet been in the Mav) - BUT! The SC shifter is cumbersome: When in park it is an obstacle to get into the miniscule front storage bin immediately in front. I love using a Tiptronic shifter - when using the Upright shifter one slides it to the left. That maneuver then slightly bumps into my right leg - not a huge matter for concern - but the Mazda shifter never did that! Also this Limited has paddle shifters - I like that feature, but most of my driving 95% does not allow me the speed up and slow down efficiency of utilizing it. I look forward to an open highway drive soon to experience that shifting up for torque limit shifts.

I already customized the SC too... see photos here. The red and blue stripe effect was done to honor First Responders! The SC Lettering in the back has "lightning" effects - to honor my affinity for the TB Lightning - greatest Hockey team / program in the history of NHL!! (Inserted on purpose to elicit opinionated debate!)

PS: Had an old boss who said about the 100K warranty on Hyundai & Kia...….that they have a 100K warranty is because they NEED it!
It's funny how long it takes for reputations to change in the auto industry. Look at any ranking of car reliability in the last 5-10yrs, Hyundai and Kia are right up there at the top. We've had 5 Hyundai's in my family, all bulletproof. My last car ('09 Hyundai accent) was given to my father-in-law 6yrs ago; it's going on 250k miles and never had a single non-maintenance issue.

Considering how good our experience with Hyundai has been, it's a testament to how ugly I think the SC is that I wouldn't even consider it.

I actually like the look of the Santa Cruz in person, it has a beefier appearance than what the photos show. It's so curvy that its hard not to think of it as more feminine. Then again, my wife said my truck is "cute, like something a woman would drive" 🤬

The one I took the photo of next to my Mav was a beautiful vehicle. The SC has better specs in some areas plus a 100k mil warranty. MSRP was something like $32k to $35K plus the mark-up pushing it to almost $50k. I own both a Ford and a Kia already, but it was always Maverick all the way.

PS: Had an old boss who said about the 100K warranty on Hyundai & Kia...….that they have a 100K warranty is because they NEED it!
Car manufacturers don’t want to pay for warranty costs. It could also be that Hyundai & Kia have a 100k warranty because they DON’T need it and by offering it the warranty costs aren’t increased to the company.

Try to feminize it all you want, the fact remains it has cool styling. Like it or not is subjective, but to say it’s femine is weird.

I keep teetering back and forth between the two vehicles.
I am waiting for the 2023 models. ( A forced wait in the case of the Maverick.)

I am pretty sure though, that the Santa Cruz would prove a better choice for a senior citizen(that would be me😊). Smoother ride and quieter-per every review I have read/seen.

Personally, I don't know why you think anyone here would care about what customizations you did to your Santa Cruz.
And that is your opinion... and the angst in the comment is akin to the ugliness of social media. Go forth as a ROCK STAR Karen now!
Angst? Ugliness? Karen? Methinks you doth protest too much and have no idea what a Karen is...
It's the Internet, where anonymous trolls provoke the thin-skinned.

All I said, in a polite way, is that if you want to post ugly-ass photos of your Santa Crud mods, do so where people will actually care: https://www.santacruzforums.com/

Better styling too, but the value proposition is the Ford. Comparing like trim levels the Santa Cruz is about 6k more along all trims.
No way! I think most people agree they wouldn't be caught dead driving the Santa Cruz (it's hideous haha).

And yeah, HYUNDAI doesn't mention the most important variable of them all, their vehicle loses at being approx 25% MORE EXPENSIVE! Most people are buying the Maverick for the bargain. Its the best Bargain out there.
