Hyundai takes direct jabs at Maverick in new Santa Cruz ad!

I actually like the look of the Santa Cruz in person, it has a beefier appearance than what the photos show. It's so curvy that its hard not to think of it as more feminine. Then again, my wife said my truck is "cute, like something a woman would drive"

The one I took the photo of next to my Mav was a beautiful vehicle. The SC has better specs in some areas plus a 100k mil warranty. MSRP was something like $32k to $35K plus the mark-up pushing it to almost $50k. I own both a Ford and a Kia already, but it was always Maverick all the way.

PS: Had an old boss who said about the 100K warranty on Hyundai & Kia...….that they have a 100K warranty is because they NEED it!

Quality control is quality control. Doesn't matter where they're built. The Escape is built in Mexico and that vehicle is as good as any car built in America.

All Escapes for North America are built in the US at the Louisville (KY) Assembly Plant. But still good.

The Maverick, Bronco Sport, and Mustang Mach-E are built in Mexico. The Hermosillo Plant (Maverick, Bronco Sport) was recently awarded as the highest quality plant for Ford in North America.

You might want to reconsider, I got rear-ended in a vehicle that didn't have headrests and wound up with titanium in my neck from the whiplash.

I agree, the headrests on the backseats are to prevent you from skull fractures when hit from behind at 60 miles per hour and the passengers hit the rear glass inches from their head.

Agreed! I think the Santa Cruz is ugly, not better styling IMO. The Maverick actually looks like a truck. The Santa Cruz styling is confusing. I kept saying it looks more like a bigger car with a bed, the El Camino reincarnated. It is cool they have better warranty though, if that's true.

May it -needs- a better warranty because it's gonna need to be in the shop more often than the Maverick?

You can add extras to the Santa Cruise and it still dosent look like a truck. HYUNDAI WHAT WERE YOU THINKING. My Mav looks like a truck and is very versital, I would be ashamed to say I bought a Santa Cruise. jmo

Way I opine it the Santa Cruz is a truck like SUV for soccer moms and urban cowboys. You want to do real world truck things then you need a Maverick. Case and point the size the of the truck bed. The one example I pointed out before is the fact you can put an ATV in the bed of a Maverick but can't in a Santa Cruz. The width of the bed of a Santa Cruz is 41 inches. Not even wide enough to put in a typical 4 X 8 piece of sheet rock or plywood in the bed. The Maverick is 53.3 inches and the tailgate can be lifted to support things like sheet rock when they rest on the wheel well.

Here are the actual truck bed dimensions for each
Santa Cruz
41 inches long, 42.75 inches wide
1441 lbs payload capacity based on sticker in door jam

Maverick
54.4 inches long, 53.3 inches wide
1519 lbs payload capacity based on sticker in door jam

Seems to me you get more truck for the price in a Maverick regardless of trim than a Santa Cruz.

I went ahead and purchased the SC Limited in Phantom black - I really, really like this car-truck-suv!! BUT, I have not yet been inside and driven a Maverick; still my preference at this time- but I could not continue to wait. I still have my Mav on order and may keep both.

Plus side of the SC Limited: Interior is really nice! The tech in this vehicle is very, very nice! This tech issue / matter will be a strong point of my comparison when I get the fully loaded Mav 1st Ed! The ride is as nice if not nicer than my prior Audi Q5 or Mazda CX 5 - both were 2016 models. What the SC really lacks is the interior cup holders and extra storage space - this drives me crazy! And I am the ONLY ONE in the vehicle 99% of the time! OMG I have been sold on something that is NOT EVEN that important to my daily drive!

The shifter is nice to have - according to the many comments in this site - we all have grown to appreciate the tactile feel and placement of a center console shifter. I am here to tell you that is true (alas I have not yet been in the Mav) - BUT! The SC shifter is cumbersome: When in park it is an obstacle to get into the miniscule front storage bin immediately in front. I love using a Tiptronic shifter - when using the Upright shifter one slides it to the left. That maneuver then slightly bumps into my right leg - not a huge matter for concern - but the Mazda shifter never did that! Also this Limited has paddle shifters - I like that feature, but most of my driving 95% does not allow me the speed up and slow down efficiency of utilizing it. I look forward to an open highway drive soon to experience that shifting up for torque limit shifts.

I already customized the SC too... see photos here. The red and blue stripe effect was done to honor First Responders! The SC Lettering in the back has "lightning" effects - to honor my affinity for the TB Lightning - greatest Hockey team / program in the history of NHL!! (Inserted on purpose to elicit opinionated debate!)

Sorry but that rear end is simply fugly.

That can't be right. The Santa Cruz bed is 52.1" long vs the Maverick's 54.4". The Mav is longer, sure, but not THAT much, lol! The Santa Cruz and Mav beds both max out at the same width above the wheel well, and both do the same tailgate slightly raised hack to hold 4x8s.

There's next to no appreciable difference until you start adding tonneau covers into the mix. Roll up tonneau covers, on the Santa Cruz higher trims or added to the Maverick will eat up about a foot of vertical space since retracted they take up some space.
