One of my sisters and her husband bought a brand new Mercedes about 10-12 years ago. Started having issues at 40,000. For the next 20-25,000 it was at the Mercedes dealer A LOT. They sold it by 65,000. Said they would never buy another. The worst part was the snotty attitude by the Mercedes dealer. How dare you say anything bad about a Mercedes was their attitude with them.
I've owned 5 Mercedes cars so far, and I have never had trouble with any of them. Nothing serious, anyway. One of them I ran all the way to 145,000 miles without it ever letting me down - and that was a 2005, the dark days of Benz.

This sort of anecdotal stuff means nothing. I know lots of people buy German cars thinking they'll service/maintain them like Asian cars and it is not possible or you will have issues.

Also, our Benz dealer was always great. But Porsche? Those dealerships were such snobs.

I didn't read through this entire thread but like it was stated on the first page, for new what they were doing and where they should cut costs. I've been doing extensive research on this vehicle both on my own and through what other people have said since it came out. I think it's going to be a fine vehicle if we can fix a few small things and most of those are already being taken care of like cruise control in the XL.

Ford admittedly left a lot of things out so that we the end user could do them ourselves. That's where the FITS slots come in at and the whole DIY movement on the truck. Another area that Ford cut costs and it was actually a genius move was using a third party all-wheel drive system that was proven in the Land rovers in Jeeps. This probably saved them millions on r&d and trying to figure out fitment on the platform that we're using. Another thing is that most of the interior plastics are recycled.

Honestly after reading the forums over the last few months the biggest problems I see will be the thin paint and the area above the rear wheel wells filling up with dirt and road grime. The latter can probably be fixed with some sort of a wheel well liner that someone will release soon. I had the luxury of test driving an XLT fx4 and aside from the interior colors I was extremely impressed for the price point. It was just as comfortable and packed with more features then my $41,000 F-150. All that being said time will be the true testament of how this vehicle will age.

It's a question for discussion, not a judgement on the vehicle. Again, I've ordered one of these and the two I've test driven have looked and felt solid. I'm optimistic about it. Doesn't mean you can't have a conversation based on the history of Ford's vehicles around the 20k price point.

It's a machine. Let's not personify it and assign it human emotions and qualities. It will hold up, or it won't. Last I saw, it was racking up awards from all over the auto industry. To talk about somethings relative merits vs drawbacks isn't degrading it. It used to be called having a conversation.

When I grew up, there was still room for a little gray area in a discussion. Everything didn't have to be black and white or right and wrong. And I didn't grow up that long ago, just in an age where algorithms didn't spoon feed people exactly what they wanted to hear all the time. What's the result? People can't handle any opinion that even slightly differs from their own. You have your Maverick, it's treating you well...that's awesome! You're one person with one experience. Take it easy.

I would argue, using your own logic, that you don't know anything about the Ecosport because you don't own it. Couple Ecosport owners chimed in on this post and said it's a perfectly reliable cheap car. Which made my initial post look dumb by using the Ecosport as a negative comparison. Which is fine. Glad to know some folks have good Ecosports they picked up nice and cheap. Just chewing the fat while we wait.Take a deep breath...it's only a message board. :)

It would have been convenient, of the rear seats were 60/40 so I could access storage , with a car seat in place.
The new Nissans have that 60/40 split and with my kid in the booster, everything I needed to get with any sort of frequency had a place. I'm sure someone on this forum will come up with a way to split that back seat...people are coming up with some awesome modifications already which is encouaging.

Going back to the legacy aspect, one of Ford's biggest wins was the 1964 Mustang that was based on the cheap Comet or Falcon unibody platform. Who imagined where that would lead?

Once we have some time with our Mavericks, we will start to hear more about changes to make them more useful such as the split rear seat, weaknesses such as recesses that accumulate dirt and water, and maybe an occasional easter egg in programing or harness leads. That's where a community like this can shine. Thanks to all who have shared their hacks and installations!

When I grew up we thankfully didn't have troll-y posts intended to bait people into negative reactions to feed a need to post verbose over nostalgic replies about when I grew up.

Quite literally, time will tell.

But it's also worth noting the Maverick is only a "$20,000" vehicle in the hybrid power train with XL trim and zero options. The truck I ordered, an EB with AWD, FX4 and Lux Package, is just shade under $31,000. Do I expect it to perform like a $50,000 vehicle? No. But do I expect it to perform like a $20,000 vehicle? No!

The EB engine in the Maverick is a proven performer on many other Ford models. Clearly the interior is not opulent, and we've seen complaints about the paint. Other "issues" are regularly reported here on this forum, though this is to be expected of any model in its first year.

Truth be told, I am breaking one of my self-imposed cardinal rules of car buying on this one by ordering a Maverick, as I swear no one should purchase a vehicle in the first year of production. The offsetting factor, of course, is that there is NO OTHER TRUCK I can get with all-wheel drive, off-road package, heated seats and steering wheel, etc., for anywhere close to the price.

So, I guess in the end you are right. The Maverick is either going to prove to be, as so many auto journalists have delcared, "the value of the decade" or "the steal of the century," or we're all going to look back in 5-8 years and say, "Boy, that was an overhyped rust bucket. Glad I didn't get sucked into that trap."

I suppose as someone who has a Maverick on order and is really excited about getting it, I am betting on the former. And since we're here on the Maverick Truck Club, I'm betting I have lots of company!
Perfectly said

I feel like I got what I paid for. An AWD Crew cab pickup with plastic on the seats as opposed to a fairly to heavily used truck at this price point. This little truck seems to be an indictment of where we are at this moment in time. If things keep heading this direction you may not be too opposed to taking a sawzall to an escape to save 10-15k and get the job done :ROFLMAO::LOL:
