I went with the hybrid. I do a lot of mixed driving through the burbs and the city. According to Google maps my average speed does not go above 40 mph. So I thought hybrid would be helpful.

Family member has a 2021 insight that gets 60 mpg which is above the EPA rating.

We have a gas guzzling Mazda cx5 turbo that I can zoom zoom around in if I need to.

I'm curious how you're able to typically travel 15-20 mph over the limit. Is this on roads with almost no traffic and no police enforcement?
LOL, you weren't asking me but in Phoenix, going ONLY 15 mph over here, even in the fast lane, will get you honked and flipped off most of the time.

Yep, OTOH? I'm from the Midwest and have spent some down further SE, they drive like they're in perpetual slow motion there, lols.

Always fun to see folks from those types areas get on their high horse and wag their fingers at the way folks from other types of areas drive. They are so clueless about what a difference there can be.

I have a get out of jail free card from a family member. Actually on the Jersey TPKE 15 mph+ is the standard.....
Where are you from in jersey bro.

I went with the 2.0 ecoboost merely on the fact its got a traditional automatic transmission vs a CVT. I just dont trust CVT's in the long haul for durability regardless of manufacturer and would rather tradeoff mpg's for a traditional automatic. even if its not as nice to penguins and owls etc. Granted my family drives and keeps vehicles for decades

’m worried that I’ll find the hybrid anemic and the fuel economy I’ll realize won’t be as impressive.
Based on Car and Driver testing of the three Escapes (you can find them), the 2.0L is 2 seconds faster 0-60 than the hybrid, which is about 1 second faster than the 1.5L EcoBoost you can't get in the Maverick. Top gear merging and passing times, however, are within 0.6 sec., 2.0L and hybrid. Launch the turbo in 3rd gear and you'll get the idea... slow off the line, but watch out at 50 mph.

My take is that a hybrid driven at speeds over the mid-60's will get mileage in the high 20's.
Mileage at speed is very "configuration" dependent. Screw up the aerodynamics (eg. roof rack) and all bets are off. Left in base configuration, 30's are easy. My worst tank in the Escape Hybrid was my third, 33 mpg at 71 mph on the interstate using 93E10 fuel in March. Speed, cold, fuel and break-in all hurt mileage. This is more typical, summer and winter, because mpg depends on mph. I used linear trend lines, but that's a bit conservative. These are all 3-leg, same-day roundtrips of 50-200 miles. I expect Maverick will be a few mpg lower.
(Note that the dashboard mpg display is 5% higher than pump mileage.)

I disliked the CVT’s lack of shifts (idk why, but that always throws me off)

This is not your great-grandfather's 2-shaft CVT. The 3-shaft eCVT was invented in 1971, and its simplicity leads to very high reliability.

That said, it turns the ICE from a "racer" into a stationary engine. Some folks love running an engine up through the gears, and manual transmissions teach you to listen to the engine. I had a hard time making the transition because I used to throttle-shift the automatic ('94 Volvo). It turns out that was great training for the hybrid; it's the same throttle blip getting into EV mode as it was shifting the automatic.

I'm getting the 2.0 because I have a need for it, but the eCVT in the Ford hybrids is pretty amazing on the reliability scale, and from an engineering perspective has far fewer moving parts than a traditional automatic, and less parts means less stuff to break. It is not a traditional belt driven CVT.

Not sure how this turned into a PSA on speeding. Let’s stay in our perspective lanes.
Op, if I were you I’d go 2.0 and AWD. If you are worried about being disappointed at all, you’re gonna be disappointed.

It wont be fast even with the 2.0L ecoboost. I would suggest the hyrbid setup.

We are seeing some escape owners hitting 50+ mpg average for a tank. The eCVT is not at all similar to the unreliable Nissan style of CVTs. Its actually based on a Toyota design and some of those in the Prius cars have gone 500k+ miles without any issues. Also remember its not a regular NA 2.5L 4 cylinder engine instead its an Atkinson cycle engine helps improve the thermal efficiency of the engine by running modified valve timing from a standard engine. I would wager the hybrid is going to be more reliable and require less maintenance than ecoboost as well.

In my opinion the only reason to get the 2.0L right now is if you opt for the AWD and the 4K towing package. For resale value it depends on the how high the price of gas goes. If we see 6+ dollars a gallon for fuel nationally the hybrid will be a very worthy investment

If you’re second guessing your decision, it’s most likely wrong. I ordered the 2.0EB and welcome it’s +10mpg highway over my current truck. I drive 95% feeway and every hybrid I’ve driven has no balls and IMO, is dangerous merging onto the freeway or in defensive driving scenarios.

Funny, because I am more worried about batteries. The one thing zi have never had an issue with is a CVT, and I have broken a 12inch Dana on a 7.4L we all have different experiences and fears/loved

I drive all over the southwest and can attest mostly to this. I usually drive the speed limit in the slow lane, and people just pass me with little drama. Probably helps that my truck has those neon-yellow/red reflective chevron stripes on the back.

North Texas is definitely interesting. I was going 85mph on I-35 and got passed by semis. But once I got off the Interstate and onto state highways, people barely drove the speed limit. Same for in town. Go 42 in a 40 zone and you'll darn near be passing everyone.

Not sure how this turned into a PSA on speeding. Let’s stay in our perspective lanes.

I agree. Unless @Billbraile has hybrid experience, chances are he'll find it underpowered.

One of my past cars had privacy plates. Looked like normal plates, but if the cops ran them, all that shows up is "X County Sheriff".

I could drive however fast I wanted to, but I rarely went faster than the flow of traffic. It was too dangerous, risky, and stressful to be weaving in and out of traffic during rush hour to save 5 minutes on a 40-minute commute. Required a lot of concentration to "speed", whereas if I just kept pace, it was much more relaxing.

That being said, I did open 'er up on the Interstate when I had 10/10 conditions (10 mile visibility with no traffic, 10000' ceiling).

Y'all are making me just want to get a 2.0 AWD 4k tow. My basically-stock truck barely gets 18mpg if I hold a steady 65mph. Getting 26-30mpg unladen and still being able to tow a few thousand on occasion would be nice.
