I placed my order yesterday for the hybrid in XLT trim, Alto Blue.
As I research more and more and think about my real world driving habits, I’m having second thoughts.
(well also my dealer said delivery would take longer on the hybrid)

With the blend of miles I drive along with my lead foot, I’m sure I won’t see close to the 40MPG.

I suppose I’m asking you to talk me into the eco-boost so I can call my dealer and hopefully get mine sooner….

I live outside of Philly but I’d say I drive 60% highway or major arteries. I venture into Philly for dinner etc a couple times a month. I typically drive 15 to 20 mph above legal on the highway. I’m worried that I’ll find the hybrid anemic and the fuel economy I’ll realize won’t be as impressive.

Seriously, unless you are a 1st responder StFD

hybrids get best fuel economy in town where regenerative braking really helps, on hilly, but not mountainous terrain, and at steady speeds on highways near their tuned speed zone is. Assuming your speed limit is only 70, then you are doing 90 that is going to kill your fuel economy as it is Reynold’s number x Velocity^2 that determines your drag. 490/810 is basically 0.6 , taking into account your higher velocity that’s still only 78% of the mpg assuming everything else stays the same

My take is that a hybrid driven at speeds over the mid-60's will get mileage in the high 20's. Maybe the mid, as noted the drag increases with the square of the velocity(speed). I know that my Mariner can get in the high 20's, as high as 28, if I keep the speed just above 65 cruising. If I increase speed, the mileage drops quickly, very quickly.
So a hybrid will be worked hard, and so will an ecoboost, but I think the hybrid harder, more 'out of its happy speed' when driving fast. As is the case, YMMV. Should say, will vary.
Pop for the boost, and get over the '40 mpg' goal as you will never see it driving the way you do.

I had the same issue. I originally ordered the XLT 2.0 AWD. and decided to switch to the Hybrid because that is what attracted me to the vehicle at first. Then I was told i would get it faster if it were a 2.0 eco boost. So I switched back to the 2.0. My thoughts were that you will only get the 40 mpg in city driving. I no longer live in the city but in the suburbs where it will be more combined. I originally ordered on 6-25 and was just scheduled for build the week of Sept. 20 . If this helps oh and i removed the splash guards and the spray in bed liner as these were things I heard could slow up my order.

Even in the burbs where it is traffic lights every few blocks, hybrids are nice, and we are in the foothills so we get the boost up the hills snd the regeneration down.
I legitimately expect to get around 30 in the hybrid because the lift and such will drag more due to lift pillars sticking up out of the truck’s buttocks. But sadly any charity is plagued by levels of virtue signaling and we have to at least go hybrid. I was originally told to look straight electric until I reminded the board that that would 1 cost a lot more (mods for chairs start at 20k) electric vehicles are more expensive to acquire, and North GA simply doesn’t have charging stations like out West. With patients typically being suburban or rural for us (Alzheimer’s/TBI) electric was not going to cut it. We were looking at a diesel gladiator (still like it) when the Maverick was announced (rather we noticed it) so we compromised, but I think in the long run, for our use, the Maverick really is a better vehicle (though I do loves me some diesel Jeep used to have a diesel CJ5)

If you value acceleration and torque, 2.0L is the way to go. If you want a more laid back driving experience with great fuel economy, get the Hybrid. I think it will actually see its best economy in more suburban driving rather than stop-and-go city driving - easy acceleration, easy stops on full regen braking, cruising 35-45 mph. I love me some 2.0L EcoBoost, but the Hybrid is fun and serene to drive in its own way.

If you can find any on the lot, driving a Hybrid Escape and a Bronco Sport Badlands will give you the best feel for each powertrain.

No, it'll get better than that.

Even the 2nd Gen hybrids by Ford from 10 years ago (that were the boxy body -- not the swoopy aerodynamic body) got >30MPGs on the highway. I had one. Great mileage.

The tech keeps getting better. Ford's #s aren't fluff. I'm expecting mid-30s when 65mph.

I'm curious how you're able to typically travel 15-20 mph over the limit. Is this on roads with almost no traffic and no police enforcement?
I have a get out of jail free card from a family member. Actually on the Jersey TPKE 15 mph+ is the standard.....

I did drive a fusion hybrid the only thing they had on the lot to kind of get a feel of the hybrid. It was a 2.0 . I wasn't horrible for acceleration from a stop but I felt the 2.5 would be a little better but after a while after weighing it all switched to the 2.0 because after a while probably will wish for more acceleration and kicking myself in the but about the AWD.

I ordered the EB because I would like extra pep in my truck. I’d like to say I value MPGs a lot, but I like the EB engine more. I drive mostly city (stop and go, short distances to work and school drop offs) along with sporadic long highway drives (baseball tournaments), and I’m more interested in the extra giddy up I’ll get from the 2.0.

I’ve owned a hybrid Fusion before, and while the MPGs were nice, I disliked the CVT’s lack of shifts (idk why, but that always throws me off) and I wished it had more power. It was a pleasant driving experience, though.

I went with the Ecoboost for the fun factor and because it can't possibly get worse mileage (or significantly worse) than my old Accord which gets 25 mpg.

I never thought about the Ecoboost engine, when I saw the MPG of the Hybrid I was sold. Now, I do have a 2007 Boxster that is my toy so speed isn't my highest priority
