Hello All!

I want a Hybrid, and couldn't even get my order in. That being said, in the last 10 hours I've had 3 dealers call and tell me they have new trade in Mavericks. 2000 miles or less (none are hybrids). Was curious why there would be such a "surge" for lack of a better word in trade-ins? Your thoughts would be great!
i was offered 5k over on my EB, told them to contact me in 2 months.(when my hybrid is ready)

Irresponsible to who? If it is not your money who cares what other's do with their's. Never understood people concerned what other's do with their own money.
Except this drives inflation. People paying more than what would normally be expected. Look at the housing market. When demand exceeds supply inflation is the result.

Well its more than that rt now. there is only one other vehicle in this market and ford is offering free money on these at 36 months and 48 months.

So people are willing to buy. If the interests rates were higher, they wouldnt be as popular selling for 5-15k over msrp.

Also i've seen on occasion where people picked up an available ecoboost until their ordered hybrid came in. They made the right choice based on trade in values due to high demand/low inventory.
I did this because I need a vehicle. Found an EB which I will trade in on the hybrid in spring or summer when it arrives.

I've noticed that since Ford doesn't provide many stock vehicles anymore, dealership employees 'customer order' them. With the current market the way it is, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the employees drive the vehicles or demo the vehicles, then turn around and sell them with a nice markup.
That really isn't true,Employees acting as customers is a sure way to get Ford to pull their allocations for a period of time leaving them out in the cold

I don't think any of these are selling 5k over.. I mean how many people on this forum, can you name one that paid 5k over? They can ask whatever they want doesn't mean anyone is paying excepted dealers which is not the brightest business model.

You can buy my xl hybrid for 32k if you don't want to wait.
If it's the right color, (Cactus green) and has a sunroof and spray in bed liner, then we can talk!

The market is wild right now. My hybrid XLT build date is in a few weeks and if someone is willing to give me a few thousand over MSRP for it, I will absolutely consider it. Buying a new vehicle isn't exactly the best financial decision, but buying a new vehicle over MSRP is just about the dumbest thing you can do lol
Wait, the last time I bought a new car, buying “at” MSRP was about the dumbest thing you can do!

Yep, a lot of folks are buying more vehicles than they need, expecting to flip them for more money later but that‘s a super dangerous game. I did it for a while and made some good money but stopped while I was ahead. Some folks will get hurt later this year when used car prices drop back down again as new vehicle supply meets demand. Some of those folks will have to take a loss to get back down to one vehicle, and it will be super painful.

I’ve seen a lot of market adjustments negotiated down to hundreds from thousands from posters on this site. Dealers goose them up by several thousand and maybe only sell one or two that way if any at all. Vehicle sits a while and they need to turn it to earn more allocation. So the buyer overpays by $500 and thinks they got a good deal, saving $3,500. At some point its just psychology but when production gets normalized, even those seemingly benign market adjustments, add on fees, documentation fees, nitrogen, etc. all add up. Unfortunately, those buyers will be down 30% from the normal discount used cars have to new ones, then add in all of the additional fees and taxes. At that point better love what you have because it costs too much to get out of it. Not to mention MY 2023 will have more goodies added compared to MY 2022.

Yes, they are all dumb. But if you have the money for one of those vehicles to begin with, I suppose that you can afford to pay the premium. Nobody buying a 992 is hurting for money.

However I'd argue that paying over MSRP for the pick-up equivalent of a Civic or Camry is very irresponsible considering who is likely buying one.
You and many others are generalizing. It depends on supply and demand, barriers to entry, and lack of intrabrand competition. All of those factors contribute to prices over MSRP. If you reside in an island like Hawaii you either buy a car over MSRP or you don’t drive any car at all. So it’s smart to buy over MSRP because it’s your only choice and dumb to pass.
