My point is that what many see as a shortcoming in a Maverick or Ranger are people who want it to be something that Ford did not intend it to be. . . . . .
I pretty much feel the same . . . . I ordered my Maverick by checking off what was not needed and checked what was and then made a couple of compromises. I always consider "intent" in most anything that would apply. I agree Ford developed what the majority wanted in a small truck. Nothing's perfect and life is about compromise.

I agree, and I'm sure Ford is already looking into other variations of the Maverick, based on feedback they've been getting and will come out with other models that they feel can be profitable for the company.

I think it comes down to Ford trying to meet federal mpg standards (which are going up based on recent news). Offering and selling a volume truck like the Maverick with a base Hybrid makes it easier and quicker to meet standards imo.

The problem is this was designed/engineered before the pandemic, they probably never anticipated the shortages so they can’t get the volume they probably envisioned when the project started 5+ years ago

ford should have made the ECOBOOST as the standard engine and the Hybrid an option. if you want Maverick with an ECOBOOST i can show you 5 or 6 dealers in my area that you can get them (on the lot) at MSRP with no ADM. So pull up your panties and sit back for the wait and if it is as good as my Hybrid Escape I for one will be estatic. Otherwise look at the Santa Crux and get sone really shitty MPG from the baby El Camino. Cause it ain’t no truck.
I went to the local dealer to check out a Santa Cruz, and my biggest takeaway was how small the bed was!

And probably a bigger factor is the rise in Gas prices. This is why almost 64% went with the Hybrid. . . . Ford anticipated they would get 60% EB orders compared to 40% Hybrid. If you think about it, the Base was not suppose to be the standard but what they anticipated is people would add a bunch of goodies (including the EB) to the base. Why else would they charge more for the EB? I would love to see the breakdown for all 2021 orders (as would many others) to see exactly who got what. Don't know if Ford will reviewal that but it would be nice to see. I'm not saying Ford lost money on the Maverick but I'm thinking they wont do as well as they projected.

My opinion is the Maverick is such a diversified and affordable truck that when we get a lot of our trucks on the road - - the Maverick will sell itself!

I'm also thinking that many, many businesses will be getting Mavericks and getting rid of their full size or mid-size pickups and really cutting their fuel cost!

Same price as Ranger??
uh, find me that Ranger, you might want to check prices.
A comparable optioned Ranger is $10 to $12K more. I did a lot of research they were my two options. Plus the MPG isn’t comparable. 2 completely different vehicles. The Maverick checks a lot of boxes for those that need a truck occasionally and still need the features of a SUV like interior.
Find me a ranger with factory heated seats and a sun roof. DOES NOT EXIST

Santa Cruz has AMC Pacer vibe IMO. Small vehicle with fat skin.
Ford's biggest mistake was stopping small/compact truck production in the first place.

THAT IS TOTAL HORSE HOCKEY… Do you sincerely believe that? That would mean every entity pushing to electrify the world had not considered the ramifications of the efforts. Know one is that shorts sighted, especially the government… 🙄
Yep totally agree. Except I was thinking horse sh#t. Guess OP hasn’t heard of owning a home, installing electrical charging in the garage of said home, or installing solar panels on said home, taking advantage of tax breaks for solar panel installation, etc.

We do have some level 2 chargers, but not a ton, and with those you are talking charge time in the hours to gain significant range. We have a Leaf as our city car and charge at home, but widespread adoption would be hard given the lack of available chargers.

I agree. I had been looking at Mid-Size trucks like Colorado and Ranger for a year. Even used with 40,000 to 55,000 miles were 10 to 12 thousand more than a Maverick even with the options I went with.

The points some of you make are all valid and is exactly the reason why one shoe does not fit all.

With a few exceptions, we have failed miserably in our inner cities providing safe, economical and convenient transportation to the masses.

EV's are not the only solution but are a part of the solution.
As someone that lives in the inner city, I do not have a driveway. Off street parking only. Like most of my neighborhood. Evs are not a solution unless you outfit the sidewalks with charging stations. Last night I had to park the block over because all the spots in front of my house were taken. Even if I plopped a charging station in my front yard I wouldnt always be able to use it. I would literally have to move to get an ev. Which I probably will eventually, the cities suck.

Never considered that EV limitation before. Millions and millions of people in your situation.

I live in a small suburban city (~38k people) but since the entire Provo/SLC Utah metro area is growing so fast there are actually very few single family homes. There isn't a single one within ~2 miles of my (town)home, but there are thousands of apartments and condos. and that is all that is being built. Well over half of the local population does not have access to a garage or even carport.

There are a ton of infrastructure issues to figure out before number of electric vehicles in the U.S. goes from ~2% to 52% (which is current estimate for 2030).
