ford should have made the ECOBOOST as the standard engine and the Hybrid an option. if you want Maverick with an ECOBOOST i can show you 5 or 6 dealers in my area that you can get them (on the lot) at MSRP with no ADM. So pull up your panties and sit back for the wait and if it is as good as my Hybrid Escape I for one will be estatic. Otherwise look at the Santa Crux and get sone really shitty MPG from the baby El Camino. Cause it ain’t no truck.

Oddly enough, after seeing the Maverick and Santa Cruz in person, the Santa Cruz is more substantial.
Its roof, hood, and bed height are taller, making it seem bigger. (No lie. On paper they look similar, but the Maverick’s height numbers are not true)
The bed didn’t seem any smaller than maverick (maybe even felt larger due to its shape).

As to the Santa Cruz not being a truck: If it isn’t, then the Maverick isn’t either.
Both are vehicles with beds built off of SUV platforms with similar payload and somewhat similar towing abilities.

I still am curious about my Maverick build, but have to admit I like the overall larger size and height of the Santa Cruz. If only both had hybrids.

What?
Why would they do that? The reason for the maverick is to fill the EPA mileage fuel average for the brand and to do that they needed big MPG numbers for base model vehicles. They no longer make cars besides the mustang which means its all big suvs and trucks. CAFE standards are a thing and is a big reason why the maverick even exists

Also if this opinion is based on the fact that the ecoboost is available on lots but the hybrid is not clearly shows the demand is for the hybrid drivetrain. People want a small truck with good fuel economy at an affordable price. IMO the ecoboost model is kind of a waste because ford already offers the ranger which is a little bigger but still comes with a 4 cylinder ecoboost. Worst still is optioning a maverick for the 4k tow package to tow stuff. The price of all the options puts you very close to the rangers price which can tow 7500lb if I remember right.

Same price as Ranger??
uh, find me that Ranger, you might want to check prices.
A comparable optioned Ranger is $10 to $12K more. I did a lot of research they were my two options. Plus the MPG isn’t comparable. 2 completely different vehicles. The Maverick checks a lot of boxes for those that need a truck occasionally and still need the features of a SUV like interior.

Ford had a couple goals with the Maverick, one of them being a super low base price.

Even with the base Xl we can get either engine, tow hitch, sunroof, copilot.

Usually the big options are a part of a higher end package not available on a base model.

Ford did it right and the Maverick will be a big seller until the competition puts out a similar competing model.

I like the overall larger size and height of the Santa Cruz.
This is a good example of how different folks have different preferences. I like the Maverick specifically because the bed height is lower and easier for me to put stuff in.

Neither of us is right or wrong. We just want different things.

If it is the CAFE standards why not make the Hybrid the base engine on the ESCAPE. They sell a ton of them and you do not have to get the deluxe model to get the Hybrid engine. unlike the RAV 4.

I think Ford made a few hundred (thousand) mistakes so far with the Ford Maverick. Let me go jump in my non delayed Hybrid and I will tell you a few of them.

actually the base motor in Escape and Bronco Sport is the 1.5L Dragon. I know people that own each of these and tell me they get 30+ MPG combined! The 2.0L FWD Maverick gets 30MPG on hiway and like 26 MPG combined. I think CAFE standards were maybe #5 on list of reasons to build the Maverick and the other reasons are being borne out in sales numbers so far. Personally I wanted a compact truck like my old Rangers with some modern mechanicals and minimal nanny tech with good mileage, ample towing, comfortable interior and ride, low step in height for cab and bed- and I know there are lots of people just like me. Ford is filling a vacuum in this space now as well appealing to new demographics and providing a low cost entry level vehicle.
