if they were to do what some of the older Honda hybrid (and others) have done, you can remove the rear under seat storage for a larger battery. This of course doesn’t address AWD, just a larger plug in battery.

My best outing has been around 55 mpg over the course of a full tank, but on one trip ~57 mpg but damn did I hate how I had to whisper on the gas pedal instead of actually gunning it.
